After much research I decided to order from Spindle, it was on back order for six weeks. Upon setting up the mattress we discovered the springs were smaller (by 5 inches) than the mattress. At the very least this makes the mattress lumpy, non-supportive and extremely uncomfortable. After 2 months of back and forth communication where we requested they send the correct length spring coils, (I sent measurements and took photos of everything and had to send them more than once) the Spindle rep either requested more information or said the "team" needed to review. So after two months of Spindle no commitment we requested a refund. To get a refund we had to document via receipt that we had disposed of the mattress at the dump. Refund was finally given. Ordered a mattress and paid for it but I cannot contact the company because their phone number 978-263-3807 is not a working phone number. They have my money but I have not received my mattress. This company is worth 83 million dollars, but they have no customer service representatives to answer phone calls. They only have an automated message through emails so I cannot ask anyone from their company where my mattress is. The Spindle mattress is a build it yourself mattress. It has 3 layers of latex and the mattress cover, shipped in separate boxes. It's pretty easy to put together. The hardest part is getting each layer properly positioned on top of each other, but it's pretty straightforward to do this; it just may take some time to get right. The latex layers, each 3" thick, can be different densities, and one can fine tune support by adjusting which layer is where in the "sandwich", and each layer also has different support depending on which side is up, so in other words, quite a large range of adjustment. All the layers zip up easily into the cover. We also bought their foundation, and all this is on a separately purchased steel bed frame. We had been sleeping on a local brand queen size latex mattress and upgraded to a king size bed, so needed a new mattress. We filled out Spindle's comfort quiz and it said "medium", so that's what we ordered. Slept on it for a while, but it was not supportive enough, giving a hammock feel and a sore back. The layer layout recommended was Medium/Firm/Medium, and we tried M/M/F (firm as top layer) and this improved things a bit, but not enough. We sent off some email to their support, and they replied saying that we should call them because the nuances of comfort are best discussed person to person. We did this, and described our situation, including that our prior Queen was only a 6" mattress on slats, and after some discussion, the conclusion was that we should get another layer of Firm to replace one of our Mediums, to make a M/F/F sandwich. This modification was free. With this modification, we are completely happy with our Spindle. Cost is less than if we had bought a comparable mattress from the local place who produced our Queen, and Spindle support was great. I bought this mattress 2 years ago and continue to experience back pain. In the first year of owning the mattress, customer service was responsive and wanted to help by providing suggestions on different configurations of the mattress. The mattress comes in 3 layers that can be arranged differently based on firmness. After much experimentation of the layers, nothing worked. After the 1st year (which is the return period), it was harder to get a hold of someone. I realize now that this 3 layer construction allows the company to buy time by telling customers to keep trying different configurations. I can no longer get a refund on the mattress. It truly is the worst mattress I've ever owned and continue to have back pain every morning. It was a waste of $2,000 and added to a lot of painful mornings. read more

I can't say enough about the great service, value and fantastic quality from Spindle mattress! Before my purchase, I made a road trip to Spindle's showroom. The knowledgeable salesman spent hours with me letting me sample difference mattress types and customizations. He even stayed open nearly an hour late to accommodate me. After I ordered, UPS made a shipping error and he handled that very well also. The king size mattress has been great. It arrived in four boxes (three for the mattress and one for two king size pillows) and each box was easily carried to the second floor of my home, by me, with no help. Okay, to be completely honest I'm in good shape, but it should be doable by anyone in reasonable condition. For two people its a cakewalk. One of my concerns was getting a king size mattress up my stairs, and with this latex mattress it was very easy. In fact, if I move, it will be easy to get it down the stairs also. Once I got it upstairs, I was able to assemble it myself, but it would have been easier with a second person. Still, it was doable. The instructions are clear; really, its just stacking up the layers. It fit on my platform bed perfectly. Normal king size fitted and top sheets work just fine. I have been sleeping on it for five weeks now and I still find it very comfortable. It has not been too hot or too cold, its not hard and I don't sink or sag into the middle of it at all. I can roll around on it easily and it conforms to my shape right away. I am thinking of adding a 3 inch topper, but the bed is so comfortable I have not yet bothered. I would buy this mattress again in a heartbeat! read more

Count me as another happy Spindle Mattress customer. I was burned by a year old mattress from everyone' favorite local Imax theater, and was trying out the various disruptive dot coms trying to change the mattress industry. The first was a famous one-size-fits-all mattress was too firm (my hardwood floors had more give). The second was a company that sold soft, medium and firm. Unfortunately soft was too soft for me and although they were willing to take it back and send a medium, if the medium was still too soft, then I would have been stuck with it. That's why I went with Spindle. With Spindle you get 3 layers of latex that can be configured. So if the mattress you order is too soft or too firm, you can configure the existing three layers or get one new layer for a small fee. I agree with the others about the awesome customer service. I ordered a medium full size. However, I became concerned about the weight. Because Spindle is all latex, the 3 layers together can be quite heavy. My full size mattress was going to weigh 120 lbs. My old Ikea bed was reinforced, but I was a little concerned, so I contacted Neal at Spindle. And it turned out I had reason to be concerned. The Ikea platform was unlikely to old up a 120 lb latex mattress. I added the Spindle foundation to the order. I've had the mattress for about 2 months now. After about 3 weeks, my lower back began to hurt. And this is when my decision to go with Spindle paid off. On Spindle's website are instructions on how to re-arrange the existing layers of their medium mattress so it would be more firm (medium-firm if you will). We are incredibly happy with our Spindle. We stopped by the showroom and Neal was great about answering all of our questions but also disappearing in the office and giving us a chance to lie on all of the floor samples and test them out without feeling rushed or awkward. He also helped us figure out the best softness (Firm) based on how we sleep, which was really helpful because we liked the feeling of both Firm and Extra Firm. On top of that he was able to time the shipping so that the mattress arrived after we got back from vacation - this is the kind of service that separates a small business from the big guys! Putting the mattress together was not my favorite part (took us about 30 minutes, my husband got frustrated after 5), but if it saves me $1K+ I'll take it! Sleeping on it has been incredible, and the fact that we are not inhaling anything weird makes it all the better. Overall, couldn't recommend Spindle more! I had been sleeping on my old inner spring mattress for well over a decade and it was time to find a new one. After a lot of research and testing, I settled on some version of a latex foam mattress. Of course my first stop was at a very large furniture retailer that will remain unnamed. While their prices were competitive, I couldn't help but feel like I was being sold at every turn, and to be honest, I don' really need an IMAX theater, ice cream shop, and obstacle course to help me buy a mattress. Based on my research, I knew I wanted a 100% latex mattress, and everything offered by the national chains in our price range seemed to be a top layer of latex over a polyurethane filer. To get a 100% latex mattress, many of those big retailers only had options that were 2 to 3 times the cost. Crazy! Spindle, on the other hand, has a 100% latex mattress at a reasonable price. I guess when you don't spend money on wacky themes and giant screens in your furniture store, you can afford to be more competitive with pricing. I ended up purchasing a king size mattress and foundation after a trip to their factory store in Acton, and I couldn't have been happier with the buying experience. There was no pressure and we got really honest feedback from Neal as we went through the selection process. But that's not where the story ends. Of course, there was a little hiccup with FedEx. Unfortunately they delivered my mattress to a very similar address to mine by mistake. Spindle Mattress has a nice concept. You build your own mattress and save money. They are pleasant enough to deal with. The problem is the synthetic foam they use is low density material even though it is called "firm". The foam bottoms out, sags and gets even worse with time. It is like sleeping in a hole that gets deeper week by week. After a few months, the whole thing went to the dump - a complete waste of money. read more

After many years of sleeping on an old, uncomfortable mattress my wife and I decided it was time to buy a new one. And given the importance of a good night's sleep, we agreed that we were willing to spend money on a quality mattress. At first we tried the big name furniture/mattress stores and to be honest, it mostly seemed like they were using their mattress selling tactics to sell us any mattress within our budget. After narrowing our search down to a few mattresses I did some googling to try and finalize our selection. During said googling I learned an incredible amount about mattresses and at this point I had realized that buying a mattress from a major retailer was not in my (or anyones) best interests. Rule number one, if the person selling you the mattress can't or won't tell you the exact specifications of every material within the mattress, do not buy that mattress. One of the most important aspects of buying a mattress, aside from personal comfort, is knowing not only what materials are used within, but also the specifications (weight, density, etc) of those materials. This is vital to understanding how long that extremely comfortable mattress will remain extremely comfortable. Many, if not all, of the big name brands all use cheap polyfoam in the upper layers that is guaranteed to breakdown in a year or so and you will be stuck with an uncomfortable mattress for which you very well may have paid more than $3000. As a result of all my mattress research, my wife actually began calling me "Mattress Man". So if you can't trust the big name stores for a good quality mattress at a good value, then where does one go? The answer is simple. Factory direct. And if you are interested in an all-latex mattress, the answer is Spindle Mattress. I finally got a chance to visit Spindle about two weeks ago. First let me say that Neal is a great guy. He is extremely knowledgable, patient and honest. He answered every question I had and was willing to get as technical as I could handle. My wife and I spent over an hour trying different combinations until we narrowed it down to two choices. Not trying to rush us, Neal told us to take as long as we need to make up our minds. After leaving, my wife and I were both convinced that we would be giving our business to Spindle. We talked things over and after a few more emails with Neal I decided to head back to Spindle to finalize our decision. Once again Neal patiently spent over an hour with me as I retried the combinations that we had previously liked, plus a few others. And thanks to his expertise and ability to understand my needs I had found the perfect mattress. Not only did I get a very high quality mattress that will last me many years, I did so while saving myself nearly $2000 compared to the rest of the lesser quality mattresses I was looking at in the big name stores. I received my Spindle mattress about 2 weeks ago after doing TONS of online research and trying several beds in stores. I move around to different sleep positions at night, so memory foam was not going to be a good fit and I didn't love the feel of sinking into a mattress. After trying out another latex mattress in a showroom, I knew that's what I wanted and started to research less expensive options that would still be high quality. After speaking with the store twice I decided to order because with a year long sleep trial, I could not go wrong. I ordered a medium, which ended up being too firm for me. So I just added a 3in Talalay topper and my mattress is perfect!! I did not call Spindle to exchange for a softer mattress (I'm sure they would've happily done so), but I like a plusher feel and the Talalay latex topper gives me that. In combination with the medium mattress I have the perfect support/softness for sleeping on my side or back and am sleeping through the night. Would buy again! read more

I ordered a Spindle Mattress in March 2015. I was a little uneasy about ordering a mattress on line but after reviewing all the literature on the Spindle website and checking materials and pricing of other brands, I was convinced Spindle was the way to go. When the product arrived (mattress and foundation) the hardware packet for the foundation was one bolt short, which caused a delay in the assembly process. The people at Spindle were great about overnighting a bolt. Well, I have to say the wait was worth it. The mattress, after a relatively easy assembly, has provided the best night sleep I have had anywhere at anytime. The product and the company are top shelf. The true test of company is their customer service, especially how they respond to those annoying glitches encountered along the way. Spindle really stepped up.
