The service was typical German, and I have come to expect better from Indian restaurants - the staff usually smiles and has a friendlier demeanor in general than a German restaurant. The service here was not slow, but they seemed to hate their jobs, as is typical in German restaurants. Yes, I hold Indian places to a higher standard.
After taking our order, our waiter went to the front door and smoked a cigarette, right in the doorway!
I did not appreciate that we were billed for papadam which is normally free, and was extremely surprised that it came with no chutneys - you must pay extra for each one. That has never happened to me before. Also, if I'm paying for papadam, I expect to get more than two small pieces.
There was also something added to our bill that we did not order, "diverses" that I suspected they hoped we wouldn't notice. (We had another "diverses" because I had a substitution, but that's fine.)
I ordered Chicken Masala it was OK, but I left the restaurant hungry.
It's worth the 30 minute drive to go to Wuppertal and eat at Bombay, where the staff is friendly and they don't gouge you for every little thing.
