It's such a shame they are in the location they are because I think they would be a lot busier with new customers to find them if they didn't have to actually see it, have to drive through a gas station and down a pot-hole filled gravel lot. I would very much recommend Young's for someone looking for the burger/hot dog type of place even though their menu offers so much more!

The first thing I noticed when I walked through the door was the pie case. It was "seat yourself," so I decided to sit at the counter. I was acknowledged and waited on right away. They have menus, but I didn't really need one because of the lighted display boards on the wall above the counter. Originally, I was going to order ice cream but decided on a slice of coconut cream pie and a cup of coffee. Not many people were ordering coffee, so I got a fresh pot. The pie crust was flaky while the filling was rich and creamy. My only regret is that I didn't have enough room to order a slice of peach crumb pie, too. Young's features the piecrete which is a slice of pie blended with soft-serve ice cream. Some of the pie is reserved for the topping. (I will definitely have to try one of those!) Also, on my "to-try" list is the chicken basket. The chicken is given a saltwater rinse (brining), before being breaded and cooked in a pressure fryer. While chicken is what they are famous for, I would say it's their friendly, top-notch service that accounts for their repeat business and longevity. Not many restaurants have been in business for over 70 years! If your travels take you to Valley Park, this place is a must stop. Be sure to check out the photos and memorabilia. Special thanks to the owner, Grant, for giving me additional history and information about Young's. I look forward to going there again.

I think returning the gratitude was in order, especially after I paid a 20% tip I didn't realize there was no service and that not only would I have to pick up my food order, but I would also have to clear my table and dispose of my trash. What was the purpose of the tip? For the people behind the counter and in the kitchen just doing their jobs? The fries were decent, but the chicken breast on my sandwich looked like it came from a baby chicken. No way this is a chicken breast, but rather a small cutlet. A bit deceptive on the menu. I am pretty sure that during my visit there was an area manager, or possibly the store manager, sitting near me, but she spent more time talking on her phone than doing anything to improve the customer experience. My experience did not equal the $23 I paid for my meal. I will not be returning, nor would I recommend.

My husband and I were staying nearby at the Cheshire, and we walked over to Hi-Pointe Drive-In for a quick bite before a concert. We came around 4 PM, which was kind of an off time, but the entire team was incredibly welcoming with some great menu recommendations. You order at the counter, and then your food is brought to your table hot and fresh. I ordered the Double Burger with cheddar and all the fixin's, along with some of their special sauce. I also got a side of the sweet potato tots and the "Oreo Speedwagon" milkshake. My burger was cooked perfectly and loaded up with toppings, and their special sauce is light and mustardy. The sweet potato tots were warm and crispy, and the milkshake washed everything down perfectly. I'd absolutely recommend this spot to visitors and locals alike. Be sure to read the historic plaque on your way in, too!

The burger was really good. I was surprised by how fast I ate it! lol The fries were nice and thick but a little over seasoned with salt. The lemonade was okay. Not what I was expecting. While you're waiting they have arcade games, a book nook and music and TVs. It's a cool little place to hang out for a while and leisurely enjoy snacks. My burger was good and the fries were well seasoned. My funnel cake was just okay, but I took it to go. I'm sure it would have been great if I had eaten it fresh out of the fryer. So I'm going to go back and do just that! In the meantime if you're in Florissant be sure to stop by and give Krissy's a try!
