I think I am going to say it…read more.. This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Birmingham City Centre! Manzil's is situated about a minutes walk from the Bull Ring and people in the know who know about curry know what I am talking about with this place. When you walk in, you are met with a homely and friendly atmosphere which makes it a delight to eat in. It's an old school curry house which I love. I really like the wallpaper! I have got to know the waiters as I have visited so many times, who are really chatty and are always happy to see you. If you see Hakeem, he loves his Football! The music they play is so random and unexpected. The last visit I made, they were playing Britpop hits of the 1990's haha On this visit, I was with 4 friends from down south who were visiting me for the day, who are tough critics I may add! I had the Chicken Pakora which was a great starter and just the right size to begin the meal. For the main course I had a lovely Dhansak which was really filling with Pilau rice. Manzil's speciality is their sizzling dishes which provides a good alternative if you are not in the mood for a hearty curry. The biggest surprise came when the bill arrived and we split it. One of my friends said "That price wouldn't even get you a starter which isn't half as good as that in London." Says it all really!

I'd put it down to them doing more sales via delivery. But judging by the reviews of this place it's not a well kept secret. I was brought her as a 'proper curry virgin' by experiences prior had been out of a jar and pub curries. According to a friend this was unacceptable, so off we went. I can't remember what I ordered. I know it was vegetarian and not spicy - I can't do spicy as much as I try. You get a lot for your money, going for an Indian can be an expensive affair but this was reasonable by the amount of food received. The service as well is excellent, always smiling and helpful. I really must go again, I whole heartedly suggest the rest of you do too.

They deliver for anything over 10 pounds but it rarely gets that expensive. The dining area is fine for eating in but after eating there you'll need to wash your hands and the bathrooms aren't so nice. Also I have heard many complaints about not enough chicken being in the biriani. But ya can't be too picky when its for charity.

Friendly staff, fun ambience, incredible food. If I didn't live 3,000 miles away, I'd be back every week. Run. Do not walk. Dishoom is phenomenal.

I've always enjoyed popping in one the way home for the routine of the grill being fired up to roast some chicken or lamb and to witness the scowls of the old dear that is often to be found sitting alongside it. Notably Shareen Kadah's also offer some great sweets which is rare along this strecth of the Mosley rd. Delicious candied treats are available if you have a sweet tooth and are a mark of Shareens authenticity. I've heard rave reviews about their breakfasts on a Sunday but have yet to witness this Kashmiri specialiality.

I know a lot of people who really rate this place as a restaurant and maybe I should give it more of a chance. If the atmosphere when I walked in is anything like in the evening then I'm not sure I'd like to eat there. The rotis out on the side looked good but I think the greasy smell was coming from them. The baarfi I got was cheap and pretty tasty so I did end up a satisfied customer.

The desserts, in particular, are disappointing--my tiramisu lacked depth and had a gross refrigerator taste. The service is average at best. However, for truly fresh food with complex flavors, Shere Khan's is where it's at.

We'd just been to my nan's house and she LOVES to feed us all, so it wasn't going to be large dinner! Mrs D orders a couple of starters to have as main course, but for some reason the waiter brings it as her starter. "We'll bring you another couple to have as a main, you might as well keep those" So, Mrs D has the same two dishes for starters and main courses, a little unconventional but hey... She said they were average too. So Mrs D has 4 average dishes. Mine was quite nice, but when the bill arrived, you guessed it... They charged for both sets of starters! Overall, a bit underwhelming to be honest, I think I'll stick with my local.

They have a huge menu ranging from curries and sizzlers to vegetarian dishes, various biryani, tandoori dishes and Indian desserts like Kulfi. Portions are massive so just a main would be more than enough, and prices are very cheap for the amount of food you get. The service was excellent, we came on Christmas Eve so it was very quiet but it's usually a very busy lively place. Goodness though, where do I start with the curry. Firstly, here is not where you come if you like your eyebrows singed and little pain the next day. No, the curries here are made with roasted spices, cooked for absolutely ages until the chefs can be sure there'll be an absolute taste riot in your mouth. Each dish is totally different too. Some of the standouts are the lamb on the bone, the keema, the daal of the day, masala fish (sizzling and huge portion, equal to a whole fish!). The service here can be a bit hit and miss, although when it's spot on, it really is awesome to watch. There are usually about ten waiters on at any one time (it's a big place), running laps around the restaurant with huge trays filled with goodies. It can sometimes be hard to catch their eye for a corkscrew, or to order, and you can wait a while for food. However I might add here that this hasn't happened the last twice I've been. They must be sharpening their game. The atmosphere is raucous (huge groups of people make the pilgramage most nights) and loud (but not in a binge drinking hen night sense, moreso the enjoyable family way). It's BYO - you'll be given some queer glasses to drink from that'll make you think you're drunk before you start. The decor is modern curry house chic. Glass tables and pleather chairs all over the place. There's a curious waiting area with zebra print sofas and a huge telly always showing sky sports. Who knows why. Who cares, eat your dinner!
