Being a huge fan of Indian food, I had tried all the Indians in Lisburn (or at least I thought I had!) So we booked ourselves in for a meal in the Himalaya. I had never heard ant reports about it, or knew of anyone else who had been, so we went along with an open mind. The restaurant is small inside, but it wasn't overly packed, and as such, we were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in, shown to our seats, and had our drinks orders taken while we were given our menus. As we had never been before, we decided to pay it safe and go for the usual, Chicken Tikka Masala for me, and Chicken Korma for my other half. The food came quickly, and for me, it tasted absolutely fantastic. My parter said his korma was a bit spicier than he would have liked, but it tasted fine to me! I thoroughly enjoyed my meal in the Himalaya, and now I know about it, I wouldn't hesitate to go back!

Has they still been on Monaghan St and Maya cafe was open I'd have gone there for a great cappuccino. This time we got the meal deal 3 at £24 but it was topped up by £2 due to my order choices (no fish just chicken based mains) but I've give. Up arguing over price hikes. I suppose I was inclined to do a review here having just recently experienced a truly dreadful Bangladeshi restaurant in Letterkenny. The latter deserves promptly closed down with the former deserving of support in this most challenging of times.

I've dined in the original Mama Masala Londonderry (owned by the same owners) and really enjoyed it so was looking forward to tasting the food! I've been following the journey of this new restaurant avidly (Metamorphosis ) and have written about the Story. Whilst we looked at the extensive Indian and Italian menu we nibbled on fresh, crisp poppadoms served with three sweet dips/chutneys. The menu was a very well thought out and well designed one and there were plenty of dishes to choose from!! We chose Vegetable samosa and garlic prawns to start and my little one wanted her chicken nuggets and chips!! My wife also had a mojito which she said was delicious. The presentation of both the prawns and samosas was very elegant and appetising. The 2 large king prawns were served butterflied, with tails on and in a rich, garlic sauce and were amazing. The three filo samosas looked a bit oily and when we cut into them discovered they had meat in them. We flagged this up and the staff were very apologetic and the proprietor Gagan personally served us fluffy perfect Punjabi vegetable samosas. These were exactly like one gets in Punjab itself and delicious suffice to say!! The portion size and taste of the nuggets and chips was excellent. For main course my wife opted for the chicken penne and I the rara gosht with Mama Masala Nan. When these were served it was quite literally a "wow" moment. The pasta was served in a large dish, the lamb in a deep oval dish and there was plenty in each. What really struck us was the authenticity, the very generous quality meat content (chicken breast, lots of tender chunks of lamb interspersed with minced lamb or keema) and the flavours!!! The pasta was in a creamy, yet not too heavy sauce with a nice touch of sun dried tomatoes and basil. The rara gosht is certainly one of the best Indian dishes I've ever had, even my wife loved it and she's not a big lamb eater. The nan was soft, full of flavour (Chillies and coriander) and was ideal with the lamb and pasta!! The dish was full of flavour and spice and not oily or sweet or artificially coloured. This was the real McCoy!! Our waiter remembered that we had ordered a pepperoni pizza to take and he duly presented it to us as we were leaving. The venue was superb, the staff were tremendous and the food was exceptional. I can now say that this will be a firm favourite of ours and is highly commended!!

Its always busy here so it is worth reserving a table before you go. The decor is really lovely and very comfortable. The only downside is the service can be very slow probably because the staff are always rushed off their feet.I didn't remove a star for this though as the staff are always so nice and they almost always throw in a few extra side dishes and a drink on the house. I've eaten here both in and takeout many times and never have been disappointed.

My date, my wife of 36 years. I couldn't get the coal fire to light at home, I'd left it late eventually succeeding just in time to add slack to back the fire up, close the air vents and leave for our meal. I blamed Andromeda; now I wasn't looking for the temperature of the nuclei of the blue snowball planetary nebulae but a shade above 15c would have been nice before we went out into 2c. Anyway as ever I digress; this deal was about £20 for two. The rating reflects this fact: we were the only diners and had 4 four excellent, fresh cooked, plain poppadoms with 3 fabulous dips; mint, spicy & mango chutney, the dips remained on the table to use with the two mains, two portions of rice (boiled & pilau), two side salads, two naan bread (garlic & Peswari) and a choice of two glasses of wine or beer. My wife took both quarter bottles of white wine on the deal (menu price £3.50 each) I had a 660 ml of ice cold cobra (£4.75). I'd be much happier had there been real ale choices but realistically this place is in a small village in the countryside and probably has no demand for my predilections. There were a few meals not on the deal - steak (I wouldn't have steak in an Indian) and tandoori king prawn dishes: fair enough. We both opted for the mixed grill served with vegetable curry. So rather than two veg curries we asked if one could be korma, this was no problem. They use a gas tandoor. The naan breads were very good, the two sauces were good with both containing similar vegetables, a mix of fresh & frozen vegetables. The mains were above average to good with a quarter of skinless chicken, tandoor chicken and lamb pieces and a piece of seekh kebab. The main alone would be a score of three. Being picky: the chicken quarter should have been deeply scored with a knife to allow the spice flavours to penetrate the meat to the bone, some lemon juice and garlic shards should have been added to the marinade as these make a big difference and add extra fresh lemon juice just before serving (or put a piece of lemon on the dinner plate), cut down on the red food dye and on a positive note, the balance of salt and spice in the lamb seekh kebab was just right. The quality of the naans, willingness to let us choose our sauces, the friendly attentive service and the cracking deal warrant excellent. I wouldn't have liked to pay the near £14 full menu cost for the mixed grill main as it would have been expensive for what was on the plate and I'd have been less generous in my rating. Then out to freezing point; a clear dark sky with Andromeda plain to see, as was Alpha Andromedae on its North East edge. The car radio came to life, radio two with a charming Michael Ball, as we drove off to 'Perhaps Love' John Denver & Spaniard Placido Domingo (means peaceful Sunday) one of our all time favourite songs. Then the angelic tenor Art Garfunkel singing 'Bright Eyes'. This was No 1 when our first son was born. Andromeda was smiling on us after all, lighting our way and our memories home over wet country roads. All we needed to top this winter night was John Denver singing 'For You' so at the push of a button off went the radio and on came John. If you have never heard either of these two songs go on you tube. They really are worth 10 minutes of your day and play loud. And home to a warm fire. Thanks after all Andromeda.

After much searching online, we found the details of this restaurant and decided to give it a try. We made a quick call, to make a reservation for that evening. We later found out that the establishment is also a Bed & Breakfast, something that we will remember when we return to the area. In the town of Belturbet, at the top of the Main Street the road bends to the right towards Cavan and Dublin, rather than following the road to the right, go straight on and you will see the marina on your left. Follow this road out of Belturbet for around 5 miles and we found the restaurant on the left, up a brightly lit driveway. Upon arriving at the restaurant, set in the beautiful County Cavan countryside, we were greeted by comfortable and appealing furnishings and the aroma of spices. We availed of the Christmas Menu meal deal, this included four courses and a glass of wine or beer for just €25 each. Each course was beautifully presented and the food was obviously freshly prepared, as it tasted superb. The couple that run the place were very welcoming and friendly and there was a great and relaxing atmosphere throughout our visit. If you like Indian food, you will not be disappointed and I bet you will not find better anywhere.
