What I collected from the Spice Garden in Swadlincote this week was without doubt the worst takeaway that I have ever had. I knew that I had made a terrible mistake as soon as I got home and removed the food from the bag. I ordered a chicken tikka masala, which would normally come in a thick creamy sauce, but as I took out the transparent plastic container, all that I could see through the side was what appeared to be orange / brown water. When I opened it I saw that the tub was filled with a very thin, oily, gravy / water with only about four pieces of chicken in it nothing like the type of food that I had expected. The sauce (such as it was) vaguely resembled the flavour of a very poor bargain basement budget brand, but was not very nice at all. The meat, what little there was, was overcooked, dry, and extremely chewy. The naan bread was just like you would buy from a supermarket, as opposed to what you would expect from an Indian takeaway. In fact, the keema naan appeared to contain no meat whatsoever, more a brownish stain inside, and was far too bready. The rice was ok, but nothing special, and nowhere as nice as I usually get at other takeaways. The food that my girlfriend ordered, a chicken jalfrezi and mushroom rice, matched my description of the tikka masala. Overall the food was appalling, especially as the price was dearer than I normally pay, and was really without any redeeming features. We both ended up throwing the food away rather than pollute our systems with it. I can only advise anybody to avoid this takeaway until they buck up their ideas and cease to pump out their bilge-like food. read more
