Located at 11,796 feet, they have managed to create a wonderful visitor center that has plenty of exhibits, a small bookstore, a water bottle refill station, free Wi-Fi, and large, spacious bathrooms with running water - no pit toilets to be found here! Now take a moment to think about that - this visitor center is located at the highest elevation of all the national park visitor centers, and it's still more functional than a lot of other visitor centers I have visited. Paved roads leading up here with a large parking lot. Step outside of the center, and you will get the most breathing-taking view of the park. We came in June, and there was still snow all over the mountains. Right across the pavilion from the Visitor Center, you'll also find a huge gift shop with a small cafe inside if you want a wider variety of souvenirs or some snacks. But besides the beautiful lookout, make sure to walk over to the Alpine Ridge Trail. It's 0.6 miles round trip - one straight shot up the mountain to reach the summit at an elevation of 12,005. Gorgeous views. Definitely a more moderate hike - about 225 steps to climb, plus you're at a much higher elevation so make sure to pace your breathing. Overall, a great visitors center to visit on your Rocky Mountain National Park journey. A good amount to do up here, and it's worth the visit.

I loved browsing the store! I'm always drawn to the magnets selection. They sell "Oxygen To Go!" canisters in case you need some at this higher altitude or if you ascend to greater heights in Rocky Mountain National Park! Says it's good for recovery - even for hangovers! There is an entire section near the restrooms that is full of black bear figurines and other decorations. So cute! If you're hungry, there is a restaurant here as well. We didn't eat there, so I don't know the quality or what's offered. We ended up exiting the Rocky Mountain National Park at the Fall River Station when we saw this and decided to stop in at the end of the day. We initially went to the Visitor Center before walking over here. After scouring most of the items here, I did take home a few little things to remember my time in the RMNP. The lady who rung us up was friendly and even offered me a free small paper bag for my magnets. Other places were charging for them. It can be a keepsake as well since it is printed with the store's name. This is a good place to shop, kill some time, and chill.

It's got everything you'd expect: T-shirts with bears on them, jars of regional jam, and an alarming number of moose-themed magnets. Honestly, it's less about what's in the shop and more about when you get there. There's a restaurant inside if you need more than trail mix to power through the next stretch of scenic driving. We didn't linger, but we were grateful they had exactly what we needed: clean bathrooms with no-touch faucets. Sometimes, timing is everything.
