So for this Gulf. It's tiny, tucked off the street quiet gas station. The prices here for a gallon of gas are comparable to other gas stations around the area. I went inside to buy a couple bottles of water a snack for my ride and the gentleman behind the counter greeted me and was friendly. There was also a younger lady working there who was stocking items and she said hi and asked if she could help with finding anything. I paid for my items, filled up my tank and left. It was a Saturday late afternoon so I was the only person there. Overall it was fine, as I said it's a gas station so giving it 5 or even 4 stars would require a lot.

I was working in the historic village of Pawtuxet, so I had two general options: either snacks from an old gas station, or lunch from an upscale bar or cafe. Limited time and money meant the first option. So, I settled on this Gulf gas station, with its very small convenience store, in downtown Pawtuxet. This is a place that time forgot. It was like I entered a time machine set to 1974 when I walked in. The place had an old, stale smell, that not even the Dunkin' Donuts Express inside could mask ... not that this Dunkin' was very busy. The young woman at the Dunkin' counter was like the female version of the Maytag repairman from the '70s commercials, with nothing to do, standing with her hands resting on the counter. There were no pre-made sandwiches in the convenience store (and I hate Dunkin's sandwiches), so I had to settle for peanut butter crackers and Little Debbie cinnamon swirls for my 'lunch'. This was not exactly the kind of 'power lunch' for when you have to remove a lot of cast iron from an old house, but hey, I had no choice. The selection of drinks and snacks is very limited here. Also, my coworker asked me to get him a candy bar here. When he ate it, he reported it was a bit stale. A sign on the front door states there are no public bathrooms at this store, period. I counted six gas pumps, and the price for regular unleaded seemed high. The parking lot is about as small as the store. Unless you live in the neighborhood and it's an easy walk here for lottery tickets and smokes, there's probably no reason to come here ... unless you like that '70s feel.

It appears they used to do automotive repairs at one time, but now, it's just a gas station and basic convenience store. I found gas prices to be fairly high, but on the plus side, the parking lot is humongous. In fact, during my recent visit, a tractor-trailer pulled up to the pumps (to refuel, not to make a fuel delivery), and its trailer stuck out way past the pumps, yet it did not block access to the parking lot. I found a nice spot to park and eat my lunch under some shade trees. There was no bathroom as far as I could tell. That, plus high gas prices, would normally garner only a 2-star rating, but I decided to rate them 3 stars because there was a really odd vibe to this place (it kind of reminded me of the movie "Clerks"). If nothing else, it was sort of entertaining. Some dude with a huge pot belly was hanging out, standing awkwardly just inside the door, talking to the male cashier. There must not be much excitement there, because their topic of discussion was how much the sale would total when the tractor-trailer driver stopped filling his tank (one guessed $150, the other guessed $300). I bought some gum and candy, and went out to my truck to eat my sandwich from a nearby deli. The cashier later came outside and poked his head around the corner, looking at my parked truck. Then, a young man driving a hooptie Jeep that squeaked something awful when he turned the wheels, parked next to my truck. Another guy parked on the other side of my truck, got out, went over to the Jeep dude, and made a parking-lot diagnosis that it was his suspension bushings. Armed with a can of WD-40, he sprayed the Jeep's suspension, and voilla, the Jeep made quiet turns! He even gave the kid the can of WD-40 (I'm not sure if they knew each other, or were random strangers). Then, a construction worker driving a truck parked nearby, and was met by another construction dude that was creeping around the parking lot. They went in the nearby woods, had a loud and animated conversation, and then left together in the truck. After enduring stares, squeaks and squawking, finally, I got to finish my lunch in peace.

When I arrived there I was greeted by a man with gray hair and a gray beard. He had no customer service skills and that was a red flag for me from the beginning unfortunately it gets worse, A couple of minutes later the mechanic Pedro informs the bearded gentleman that I need 4 new tires I tell him """ that's impossible I replaced 3 of those tires in the last 2 years " he tells me I need four tires or he fails my inspection, I can pay now I can go someplace else but my inspection will be failed... I tell him thank you for your services and I go someplace else my neighbor recommended. I didn't need 4 new tires and the nice gentleman at the garage explained to me, what a tire needs to pass an inspection. It has to do with the depth of the threads my tires passed with flying colors. So sad to see that man will still take advantage of a woman thinking she doesn't know anything about vehicles... now this has nothing to do with Omar but whoever that man behind the desk was and Pedro they should be ashamed of themselves ... they could drive away potential customers. I wasn't falling victim ... I drive less than 12,000 miles a year I knew this was untrue. Just on this experience I would never return there because now they cannot be trusted what a shame
