It feels intentionally put together without being fussy, the kind of place where you can savor a slow morning or catch up with friends and still hear each other talk. Coffee and vanilla lattes The vanilla lattes were beautifully balanced: smooth espresso, creamy milk, and a vanilla note that tasted more like a crafted flavor than a syrupy afterthought. They were the kind of drink you notice sip by sip--no bitterness, no burn, just a clean, rounded cup that shows how serious Rowan is about its coffee program. Pastries: apple brie galette The apple brie galette was a standout, layering gentle sweetness from the apples with the subtle richness of brie in a flaky, buttery crust that felt more like a bakery feature than a "typical" coffee shop pastry. It paired perfectly with the latte, giving that sweet-savory bite that makes you slow down and actually enjoy breakfast instead of just grabbing something on the go. Pastries: apricot pistachio galette The apricot pistachio galette was equally memorable, with bright, tangy apricot lifted by the nutty crunch of pistachios, again in a delicate, well-baked crust. Together, the flavors were sophisticated without being pretentious--approachable, interesting, and exactly what you hope to find in a city known for its food and drink. Service and overall impression Service matched the quality of the menu: friendly, patient baristas who clearly know their craft and are happy to guide you without any trace of attitude. Rowan Coffee is the rare place where the coffee, food, and atmosphere all show the same level of care, and after vanilla lattes plus an apple brie and apricot pistachio galette, it becomes an easy "don't miss this" recommendation for Asheville.

One thing that stood out to me right away: the barista pulling espresso shots while weighing each pull from start to finish. That level of precision is exactly the kind of detail that makes a coffee nerd like me smile. It shows they care about consistency and dialing things in, not just pushing drinks across the bar. The shop itself has a really cool aesthetic -- minimalist but warm -- with a quiet corner vibe that makes it a great place to slow down and actually enjoy what you're drinking. I started with a cortado, which was beautifully balanced. The espresso came through clearly while the milk softened it just enough -- smooth, rich, and exactly what a cortado should be. Then I tried both of their seasonal drinks. Roses Are Falling (no mocha) was delicate and aromatic, with floral notes that felt intentional rather than perfumey. It was subtle, interesting, and really well composed. I also had the Hello Ruby, which brought a brighter flavor profile and rounded out the experience nicely. Both drinks showed a lot of creativity without losing the coffee itself. Between the precision behind the bar, the thoughtful drink menu, and the calm, stylish space, Rowan is a standout coffee stop in Asheville. Definitely a place for people who appreciate the craft behind the cup.

SO FRIENDLY! The…read morestaff here was lovely and full of life. During my ~2 hours here studying, the staff recognized so many customers and had many friendly personable conversations! It's nice to see a cafe have regulars. There are tables to sit at, but no sofa/lounge chairs to relax at. I really liked the ambiance here, so I'd definitely return for more study sessions. They also have a cute little free library inside the Starbucks. Be sure to come leave a book and take a book! Side note: If you have enough stars for a free drink (since it's pricy) I recommend getting an Iced Matcha Latte with pistachio sauce and pistachio cold foam! It is decadent, and is the drink I have pictured in this review.

I brought a mug and they washed it and gave me the 10 cent discount (nobody uses cents anymore- side note. Couldn't even find the symbol. Also side note- if a drip coffee is almost $4 these days shouldn't the discount be at least 50 cents) Kind of strange that when I asked for a splash of cream they mentioned they could only give it to me in a cup on the side. Totally negated me bringing my own cup. Maybe COVID related? But couldn't they add it? Not a super cozy interior like some Starbucks. More of a table and chair set up. Some good outlets though and maybe few quiet and peaceful people clicking away to the soothing sounds of the steamer and orders.
