It was a warm sunny day in Florence (Firenze) and we were half way through our tour of Italy. We began our journey in Barcelona and then jumped over to Rome (Roma) and by the time we arrived in the region of Tuscany, my clothes smelled of Spanish Paella & Spaghetti Carbonara. Knowing we had 2 more major cities to hit before returning back home, I knew there was no way Air France was going to believe it was the stinky cheese I bought in Paris that smelled, when it was actually my unwashed clothing in my suitcase, so I made an executive decision... Find the closest Laundromat! I asked the hotel concierge where the nearest laundry facility was and just like that we were off to the Speed Queen. The laundromat was quite clean inside and the washing machine was very efficient. The soap is built in, so there is no need to purchase or add your own detergent. Drying the clothes was a breeze, we just let the dryer do all the work. ;) Afterwards, we folded our delicates, paired our socks and left there smelling like sunshine. My advice. Never overpack while traveling abroad, especially while in Europe. Chances are, there's a laundromat near your hotel and I hear hostels usually have in-house facilities.

Large washer is €5.50 or €6.50 depending on length of cycle. Dryers €3.50 for 30min cycle. There is a central cash point on the wall that you put the money in for washer and dryer that have numbers. Put money in and press number then go back to the unit and press start button. The cash it takes is €5s and €10s. Great convenient place right around the corner from our hotel. Totally recommend!

You can get a discount of E1 or so per load if you put E30 on a store card but that would be a lot of laundry. You use a central cash point to control the machines. You Insert enough money and then select the machine number and then go to machine and press start. Could be a challenge if the place is busy and full of folks milling around the cash point not knowing what they are doing! If you don't have correct change you can get up to E6.50 refunded.

The vending machine was out of liquid detergent so you had to use the powder stuff. They only have a few machines so it might be difficult to do laundry if there's a lot of people, but other than that, it was pretty easy.
