But it is usually one of the few places you can go to keep drinking after 2 AM so it's worth checking out after other places close. **Update**: it had been a few years, but about a week or two ago I was able to get into the place again after a messy night in Harvard Square and one too many Tasty Burgers. They still let you drink for free, which was great. I made some Harvard references and the club members seemed wary but OK with me being there.

I am always quick to applaud the city and surrounding towns (way to go Cambridge and Somerville) for the wealth of outdoor activities, both solo and team-related, available to residents. One of my favorite such Boston-based young-people-centric outdoor activities is my weekly WAKA game at Roberto Clemente Field in the Fens. My team, the Electric Mayhem, has been together for years in the Ironsides League (there are several leagues in town), and through it I have met some of the nicest and most fun folks you can hope for. If anyone ever thinks that it's hard to make new friends, sign up for a WAKA team and you'll have a dozen new ones after a day. The Ironsides League (and I hear the same about the other ones) is just competitive enough to be fun. Teams have a vested interest in winning and playing hard, but not so much of an interest that folks get disgusted and enraged after a loss. Everyone's there to just play and have a good time. The leagues are all well-managed and that management leads to the quality of organization and general spirit of WAKA in Boston. So yeah, in short, get some comfy sneakers on and get to the field. It's game time.

I joined WAKA when my childhood friend moved into the city so she could meet people outside her grad school program. After trying another kickball league, I just didn't want to enroll in a free agent alone. The concept of adult kickball leagues is pretty standard, you play a game of kickball and then you head to a bar to drink. At a previous league, everyone hangs out only with their team mates and hardly any mingling happens between teams. It's quite the opposite with WAKA and I could give credit to the company but the people make the difference. If you're not a person that likes high energy or loud bars, you're best off never joining this league. You really have to be prepare for happy, excited and really fun people. Yes the teams can be very competitive on the field but you may also make friends for a lifetime. It's cheesy, but I've found it to be truth in the making.

I first heard about Camp No Counselors when I came across an article about them while scrolling…read morethrough Facebook in 2015. I had just started dating my boyfriend (now husband!) and suggested that we go. While it sounded like the coolest and most fun experience ever, I didn't know what to expect. What I experienced at camp was incredible - fun, friendship, laughter, and an amazing sense of happiness. It truly made me feel like I a kid again, but you know, with an open bar! At camp, you can do anything you want and be whoever you want to be. They have campfires, theme parties, a color war, talent shows, boating, waterskiing, capture the flag, and an epic game of Slip and Flip (for those of you who don't know what that is, it's a slip and slide to a game of flip cup), and while I was skeptical of slip and sliding as an adult, I've finally embraced it and can't wait to play again. We've been to camp for the past three years, and I must say, I love it even more every year. I'm able to completely de-stress, unplug, and unwind, all while spending time with old friends and making new ones! I'm booked for camp this year and I absolutely cannot wait! I couldn't recommend this camp enough.

One of the top 3 worst experiences that I have had working with a venue in over 20 years…read more I booked two shows here. By the time the first show was over, I was attempting to move the second somewhere else, but was too late in realizing my mistake. Both times, the contact who I booked with pulled a bait and switch one week before the show to say we needed to pay double to be able to enter the building early enough to set up equipment and sound check. Both times, the contact acted like a jackass to cause headaches during production. I would never book a show here again. The second time, my good friend of over twenty years who is among other things an educator, and a black human rights activist wound up in a rare screaming match due to the behavior of the Elks Lodge contact who was yelling at people that were lifting large heavy lighting trusses during strike (which is stupidly dangerous to interrupt in any manner, let alone just to throw weight around). Trust the management like a used car sales man. ... Actually, I found out later that he is a used car sales man.
