As a Chef I truly look forward to a night out where I dont have to cook. I also give alot of credit to waitstaff and kitchen staff when I do go out. As well, I do not like to complain as I have been on the receiving end of complants that were called for and obviohsly not called for and neither is good to hear. My experience at Spectacle Lake Lodge was a complete let down.
My wife had "reserved" a window seat for 5pm, we arrived on time and were sat facing a large table of 9 people dead smack in the middle of the dining room with the back of peoples heads literally 2 feet from
us (lol) There could not have been a worse table to give us. We asked if we could sit were we requested by the window and was told "there is a party of 20 coming in we are about to get killed" and the look on the waitresses face said moving you is going to be a MASSIVE undertaking. Regardless, she did move us to a table in a corner facing the Lake. Not with out a few loud sighs to let us know she was not happy about it. We ordered a beer and sparkling water, and then dinner. Apps were ok we had French Onion Soup and Caesar salad. Nothing amazing but they were tasty and seemed fresh. The Issue was with dinner... I ordered the Prime Rib and my wife the Stuffed Chicken. I asked for Med Rare to Medium as its the easiest cut on a prime rib and I didnt want to seem fussy. The waitress brought out our dinner, BEFORE clearing the app plates. my wife and I moved them out of the way so she could put our dinner down. first thing I noticed was GRILL marks on my PR? Why? In 30 years of cooking I have never seen a PR GRILLED? Its a roast not a steak!!! Second problem it was HORRIBLE, blue rare (BLUE RARE!) it had grill marks it was full of uneatable gristle and cold. THE YORKSHIRE pudding was cold dense and the "gravy" on top was literally (and I mean LITERALLY) ice cold. As a chef I have never seen such a terrible attempt at cooking. my wife's chicken had a topping of RAW and I mean RAW garlic , herbs and sundried tomato. As someone who knows a kitchen well, this chef tossed these ingredients into a bowl and then the fridge, no love at all was put into this dish ( cook with your heart is a chef motto. This line cook did not!) Our waitress did not come to our table once to see how dinner was (awful) how are drinks were (empty) and if everything was ok (it was not) after we attempted to eat our meal, I could not eat the Prime Rib.. I left %75 on my plate, it was literally raw, I had to get up find our waitress and ASK her to bring our bill. She never offered drinks or dessert options and even forgot to tell us the LOBSTER AND STEAK special. We overheard it from another waitress (lol) as well that table of 20 at 5pm.... NEVER SHOWED UP! $130 for dinner.... What a complete joke!!!
Never ever again would I eat here... EVER! These problems are easily fixed, however, i'm sure they will read this get angry at me (lol) and come up with a bunch of BS excuses. Fact is this was the WORST meal we have ever had. Zero stars if I could. read more
