Couples Resort - Holes in the porch flooring and rot

We slept in one of the lower-floors Master's suites. Overall, we had a lovely time in spite of the April Canadian weather. We spent some time in the hot tub outside, which sits on the balcony facing the lake. We also sat in the jacuzzi, watched some Netflix, lit the fireplace, and used their Algonquin parking pass to do some hiking in the area. The best part was dinner; everything was delicious. The best courses are the entree and dessert. Make sure you go in with an empty stomach and bring your own wine! There is a corkage fee of $20 but it's so much better than purchasing one of theirs. On the flip side, I wished they had just omitted the separate but mandatory parking and firewood fees. I wouldn't have noticed a difference if they jacked up the room price and just hide the parking and firewood fees. When you see those extra items on your bill you feel like they're really penny pinching you, which kind of ruins the overall experience. The in-room coffee fee is also quite ridiculous; $2 per k-cup - are you kidding me? Nonetheless, I would recommend this place to my friends and family and may consider coming back again. I would strongly encourage the owners to get rid of the stupid fees; they really ruin the experience for you when everything else seems so flawless.

Outdated and run down…read more The food was delicious, we love the breakfast room service, but the cabin we stayed in needs some fixing. I wouldn't step on the front porch for fear I'd go thru. We had a terrible smell in the coffee bar area the first night, I'm sure it was a dead something, they took care of it right away! Charging extra for the in room coffee is very cheap! Come on!! The foot stool in our room has seen better days, it was FILTHY! There's old and there's need to be replaced, the patio chair covers are disgustingly dirty and old. I'm sure they're at-least 30 years old. Small details like updating visions and tub stoppers (brown and disintegrated) can go a long way. We had a private parking spot next to our cabin and STILL got charged parking fees. That's a bit ridiculous, for the price everyone pays there is plenty that should be included. Ice to get the park pass for free, we used it daily. I'm not sure I'd recommend to anyone, unless they got it as a gift.

We are a team with younger children, and parents made a point of supervising kids closely, following curfews, and being respectful to staff. Despite this, we were treated with suspicion and hostility from the moment staff realized we were a hockey team. On our first night, the hotel offered an empty room for kids to play mini sticks. The following day, when kids asked again, we were offered a different room that was dirty and had broken glass on the floor. Staff were notified, but no apology or concern was shown. That evening, while supervised kids were using the pool, another family (not part of our group) opened an unlocked side door and ran into the snow before jumping back into the pool. Some of our kids followed. There were no warning signs and the door was not locked. The pool was immediately closed by staff without testing water levels, and parents were falsely accused of children urinating in the hot tub. By 8:30 p.m., all children were in their rooms with parents. The following morning, our team manager received a rude email accusing our children of running the halls late at night and harassing guests--none of which occurred. The situation escalated further the next evening when staff aggressively confronted parents at the pool and accused a guest of having alcohol without cause. When another parent calmly attempted to speak to the desk manager to de-escalate, the staff member pushed past her and retreated to her office, where police were called. The OPP attended and confirmed there was no disorderly behavior. Everyone was allowed to remain for the night. Beyond staff behavior, the hotel itself was dirty and poorly maintained. Our room had a dead bug and personal items left behind, public areas were not well kept, and breakfast service was slow and inattentive. We would not recommend this hotel to families, sports teams, or anyone expecting professional service or basic cleanliness.

It's easy to tell why many of the families there keep coming back year after year. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. They made my wife dairy free dishes from scratch when she didn't feel like some of the other options and cooked up grilled cheese sandwiches for my kids for lunch when they didn't want their chicken wrap. The owner personally introduced my wife to the kids club counsellors so that she was more comfortable leaving them in the mornings to play. This went a long way in helping both of us relax. Besides the good food, great staff and amazing views. The other guests were so welcoming and friendly. Our daughters made friends instantly and we felt very comfortable letting them run around and play with everyone. It's a great culture that Shamrock Lodge has cultivated. With magicians, tubing, water skiing, canoes, kayaks, fireworks, and more. Shamrock Lodge really went above and beyond to always have something to do and look forward to. The only criticism, and its a big one, is that the rooms are not air conditioned. There was a portable air conditioner in the room but it was barely functional and the room was way too hot all the time. It was brutal and really took away from our enjoyment of the vacation. They really need to invest in proper air conditioning for the rooms.

A full service hotel with all 3 meals included, this getaway also provides immaculately clean rooms and thoughtfully kept grounds. It is family owned and the owners and staff have a clear love for both the land and the patrons. The staff were a delight - very friendly and ready to provide anything needed. There is a clean pool and sauna in the main lodge, and if you want to swim but aren't a pool person, not to worry because the lodge backs onto a gorgeously clean lake. A variety of watercraft such as canoes, stand up paddle boards, kayaks and paddle boats are available for patrons to borrow at any time. Motorized watercraft are also available for an hourly rental fee. We would, and plan to, return here.

This round was for breakfast and we were a group of 4 adults and 3 children. Where the place is not lacking is portion sizes for most of the dishes. The mix plate dishes (e.g. Eggs; pancakes; etc) were really large (too large to be honest). There is also combinations that do not make a lot of sense (e.g. You usually don't get pancakes AND toast). The problem with these dishes were execution. Eggs were fine, home fries were white and under cooked, toast was so thin buttering them broke the slice, and the pancakes were flavourless. My wife had a breakfast wrap which was hilariously small. It looked almost miniature novelty sized. Fortunately, everyone else's food was so over portioned that there was more than enough to pass on to her. The place apparently has been taken over by new owners. They are Indian and are launching an Indian menu in mid-September. That will hopefully be something they enjoy themselves and have some good family recipes to delivery to the locals. I wondered in the back where they have a bar & grill type place. It was nice looking and they had a couple of decent beers on tap. Might be a better evening spot.

Sometimes find it difficult to leave the National Capital and booking at the Hampton is good motivation to leave town. The breakfast, pool, friendly staff and late check-out keeps me coming back. Booked one night for Wed-Thursday July 31-Aug 1. Left Ottawa around 9 pm and drove the dark & lonely route reassured of a safe & comfortable place to stay. Arrived around 1 AM and Tanya was on reception. She greeted me with a radiant smile and checked me into the room. She's been at the hotel for 15 years and has provided a warm welcome for many a weary traveller. She's checked me in a few times, always with a happy smile and welcoming demeanour. Went to the room, luxurious suite as always, went back downstairs to grab a cart and moved all items from my vehicle before parking. Haven't had security issues before but proactively remove tools, luggage etc before leaving the vehicle for the night. Am familiar with the luggage cart availability and find that keeping valuables in the room helps me sleep better. Great sleep in the comfy bed. One of the main points of attraction at the hotel is the delicious breakfast. The eggs, sausages, ham and other items are always done to perfection. The coffee's a delight. Recognized some of the breakfast staff from previous visits. They arrive at 5 AM to get the breakfast ready. A shout-out to Denise, Marlene, Debbie, and Linda for their early-morning excellence. Much appreciated. After breakfast a few laps of the pool were in order. Bring my bathing suit and goggles for the occasion, a warm-up for summer lake swimming in this case. Wasn't going to Paris with my cardio but my technique was still there. Felt great and went back to the suite to change and begin the checkout. The noon checkout is much-appreciated and a reason to keep coming back. Was flirting with another hotel on this trip but the extra hour in the AM was a deal-breaker. Always keep an eye out for the rich and famous in the hotel. Have seen politicians and celebrities lingering in the lounge and have exchanged pleasantries over coffee and the newspaper. In this case a mother and daughter asked for a later checkout time so they could explore the local colleges. They were accommodated due to the extra checkout times available. An amazing convenience. Haven't heard of any hotel that does that other than the North Bay Hampton. Incredible. Bravo! Was rested and on my way before noon. A great start to the journey began at the Hampton. Many adventures lay ahead. The final chapter has yet to be written. Will return to the Hampton to begin other adventures, or as a denouement at journey's end.
