Gave my eyes a good thorough examination and found out that I have some tearing at my retina, now going to refer me to a specialist possibly for laser surgery to hopefully repair and prevent any future damage. very good opticians, lots of frames to choose from and accurate fitting. For me, being somewhat contrary and choosy, big and obvious isn't usually my first choice but this time the task on hand was to arrange for my daughter to get contact lenses ASAP and going to Mackeys seemed to be the easiest way of getting the job done. In the event an appointment was arranged quite quickly, almost within a week. This was commendable because I often find that that getting an appointment with an optician can involve a long wait. As it turned out the lenses were fitted easily without any fuss. A pair of contact lenses was provided on trial to see if they were suitable and once that was ok everything was quickly sorted out. Since then I've been a perfectly satisfied customer of Mackeys. I haven't used them for getting glasses yet but they seem to have a good a range as anywhere so I wouldn't hesitate to do so if the need arises.

On one such occasion I called into the shop because the leg of my glasses had fallen off. When I walked in I noticed the store had made an attempt to be stylish in the early 90s and never tried again. But it's an opticians, the chairs and stands isn't whats really on your mind when your there. The staff were very helpful with my problem and fixed my glasses right away for the convenient sum of £1. Whilst waiting around for them to be repaired I had a look at the stock. Unfortunately, local opticians can never match the low prices of the big chains. Everything was really quite expensive, although this wasn't due the shop overpricing their products for blind profit.

The glasses aren't that expensive - there is a wide range of prices. I'd rather pay a little bit more for my glasses and support a local business than pay slightly less in a larger chain.

I'm in the market at the moment for new eye people. I've been with the same chain since I was 15 and I felt maybe a look around at the competition couldn't hurt. Prices however higher - expect to pay at least £14 for month contacts and almost £30 for dailies (I've currently been switched to the latter because of a previous eye infection) Worth a go though.

Maybe you have to wait a while to be served, but that's true of most city centre places, right? The opticians are always super helpful, most recently when I've been having trouble with dry eyes. They were able to diagnose me pretty quickly and get me sorted out with a solution. I don't know that I'd ever be brave enough to buy my glasses online, so as long as Specsavers remain the cheapest on the high street, that's where I'll be going!
