I'm firmly of the belief you can never have too many sneakers or pairs of specs. It's a modern little shop with a surprisingly large selection of frames and the staff are both young and helpful. The brands ranged from the popular stuff like Bench to more obscure names like Urban Fusion and they also had a small but quality selection of sunglasses plus lenses/accessories/cleaning stuff etc. Nothing really caught my eye that day but I'll definitely be calling in again to see if the stock changes. A pleasant independent alternative to the Vision Express and Specsavers of the world. Pros: Nice shop, stock and staff. Cons: Quite small.

On one such occasion I called into the shop because the leg of my glasses had fallen off. When I walked in I noticed the store had made an attempt to be stylish in the early 90s and never tried again. But it's an opticians, the chairs and stands isn't whats really on your mind when your there. The staff were very helpful with my problem and fixed my glasses right away for the convenient sum of £1. Whilst waiting around for them to be repaired I had a look at the stock. Unfortunately, local opticians can never match the low prices of the big chains. Everything was really quite expensive, although this wasn't due the shop overpricing their products for blind profit.

The only way to solve this debate is a good old fashioned shoot out: Optomise is a well established family business with a lot of experience. Sure you may say that Specsavers for instance employ experience staff but do they greet you by your first name when you walk into the shop? Optomise have further enhanced their services by introducing house calls to elderly and vulnerable people to their list of attributes. They offer a good choice of frames and a competitive price depending your prescription. They will also work around the customers schedule and make an appointment that is convenient for you rather than the big brand policy of fitting you in when it suits them. So there we have it, after an intriguing match up between big brand opticians and Optomise, it appears that Optomise have come out on top with a resounding 5 star to nil victory. Optomise are sure to stay top of the optician league for a long time to come. I know what your thinking, and no the refree does not need glasses.

It is an extremely busy place with lots of people walking about with clipboards- slightly daunting for the kids, felt like a bit of an interview too in the consultation area. Very professional thorough service but. Opticians are all very competent and great with the kids. On Monday my daughter stood on her glasses, I automatically saw pounds signs but we called in yesterday on passing and spoke to one of the girls with the clip boards. She told us to take a seat in the waiting area, and within a few minutes a young man came and looked at the glasses. He had them fixed for free within 5 minutes. Delighted with the service. We'll definitely be back to Specsavers!

On a family recommendation I headed to Specsavers and was really pleased with the professionalism and service I got from both the sales staff and the optometrist. This is despite me offending her when attempting to flirt by asking 'do you need a degree to do this job?'. The prices are pretty good, especially as you can get two pairs of glasses for the price of one. The staff, as I said were excellent and I felt the level of service was of the hightest standard. Its located in Bloomfield Shopping Centre which means there is plenty of parking, ATMs near by and lots of other shops around which means you can pop in here while you are shopping. Very Good.

The staff know me really well, so are always really friendly. But to the new comers they are just the same. The prices for eye tests are actually quite reasonable compared to other local optician's and they won't just give you glasses for the sake of making a sale. Their collection is one of the more modern ones I've saw locally, some others have the same frames from the first day they opened and are still optimistically hoping to get some money for them. As with all local Optician's, their prices are a lot more than the big chains, but it's my local. It hails back from a time where everyone had a local optician, just like they do a GP. I like that.

Although the glasses where pretty awful, the service was good. It was nice to go into a place that had a little more of a local feel. Since then I have gone to some of the bigger chain opticians, and while they might offer a bigger selection of glasses, you feel there is much less of a personal touch. Thankfully I don't need to wear my glasses all the time, so style isn't a huge driving motive for me, so Crossin's opticians is able to supply me with a decent looking pair of glasses, while not needing me to break the bank to get them.
