I've been a customer here for a few years now and find it a mixed bag. I had previously been with an independent optician that predated the franchised type of optician chain that Specsavers is. Before, the optician I went to felt a little more like a trip to the dentist or doctors, like it was the 3rd tear of regular check up medical services, (Doctor, Dentist, Optician).
It definitely feels less formal here but to be fair its never felt like the opticians themselves are any less professional than the older types of optician.
The frames and contact lens deals are all very well priced and you should be able to get what you need. The only problems I have experienced are that my local branch isn't great at keeping up to date with refreshing their range of frames in accordance with whats on the Specsavers website. So I've gone in to look at frames I've seen on-line and they haven't had them. Maybe I've been unlucky but I've found that the range of frames carried in store doesn't seem to be anywhere near as comprehensive as shown on-line, and the range of designer frames may seem a little limited as they are aiming a little more towards the budget end of the market i feel.
All in all they do the job and really it wouldn't take much change to add on a star or 2, but I'm guessing the changes that would need to be made with frame choices etc would be required at the national parent company level and are beyond the control of local branches. read more
