Southern Hills Family Medicine of Brentwood - Dr. Shannon C. McDonald

I am very disappointed with Dr. Mcdonald. I began seeing her a couple of years ago when I first…read moremoved to Nashville. From the beginning I felt she was rather unfriendly and someone I was hesitant to speak to about medical issues. I had already tried a couple of physicians prior to Dr. McDonald and was getting discouraged with the process so I decided to continue seeing her. Recently I was sick and scheduled an appointment with her. I cancelled due to feeling too ill to drive the 30 minutes to her office and asked to reschedule. I ended up cancelling the rescheduled one after finding an over the counter medicine to combat the illness. Today I came home to a letter stating Dr. McDonald would no longer be my physician due to no-show appointments. The appointments that I called prior to and let the front office know that I would not be attending due to my illness subsiding. This upset me greatly because the process of finding another physician (especially with a long list of medication and mental health diagnoses) can be very stressful. The judgement and pretentiousness of that office astounds me, and the fact that a patient can be dismissed after rescheduling/canceling an appointment is baffling.

A few years back I found myself in a pinch when my PCP had to suddenly retire due to an illness,…read moreand I had not yet found a new PCP to replace her. A Minute Clinic NP referred me to Dr. McDonald for a follow-up. I'll admit, I was very hesitant as I wanted to stay within the Vandy Group of physicians. But feeling as though I had nothing to lose, I gave her a shot. For roughly two years, Dr. McDonald and her staff provided me with great care. It was easy to get an appointment on the fly, as well as navigate to and from appointments. Unfortunately, this came to an abrupt end. I found myself reminding the staff over and over again of my allergy to one particular medication. Lo and behold, right before a holiday weekend, I drove to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription her office had sent over. The pharmacist advised his records indicated I was allergic to the medication prescribed, and he refused to fill it. Sure enough, it was the same medication I had reminded the office of on numerous occasions. So there I was...a few minutes after 5pm on a Friday afternoon...frustrated. I took the pharmacist's advice and called the doc's answering service. I advised the call taker of the situation, but she advised she could not page the physician on call over prescription matters. I reiterated to the call taker that the office had already called in the prescription (non-narcotic by the way), but had made a mistake. The call taker then again refused. Five days later when the office reopened, the office staff seemed anything BUT concerned over the matter, and half-ass apologized. As a result, I shall no longer use or recommend their services.

FULLY STOCKED, CAPABLE, AND EXCELLENTLY STAFFED EMERGENCY ROOM!…read moreI WAS SEEN & TAKEN TO MY PRIVATE ROOM IN UNDER 4 MINUTES! INSTANTLY MY CAREGIVER WAS IN AND CHECKING ME OUT (delaying the paperwork and insurance until the end of my visit); when this High Tech "George Jetson" Device, pictured Below, discreetly and swiftly gathered all of my Personal information. I was highly Impressed with the Many Tests they performed. An EEG, A Chest X-ray, throurough Body Exam, Temp, BP, Pulse, Oxygen levels, plus Breathing Treatments and more important things that I can't now Recall? My Final Diagnosis was my very 1ST COPD FLARE at a terrifying and dangerous level and They immediately Referred me to a Qualified Pulmonologist ASAP. Also Prescribed me my 3RD Btl of MEGA STRENGTH PRESCRIPTION COUGH SYRUP + A full Dose of ANTIBIOTICS + as Well as a full Dose of STEROIDS! OVERALL, I have NEVER BEEN TREATED SO PROFESSIONALLY AND THOROUGHLY, all in a very brief time span! I am beyond impressed with TRISTAR, [I will never bother or risk my health with the Subpar Treatment offered at WalkIn Clinics] I did remain quite ill with Continuing Bronchitis as well as a newer Upper Respiratory Bacterial Infection that hung w me for 22 straight days! I had to go through another 2 Full Rounds of ANTIBIOTICS plus another 2 FULL ROUNDS OF STEROIDS before I ever began to Clear Up. I have been Referred to a full fledged PULMONOLIGIST to find the real severity of all this.

I've used this hospital for the last 48 years (mainly since it's the closest to me)…read more I'll admit that in the distant past, I would have gone elsewhere for treatment, because there was a doctor in the ER who was pretty nasty, but since he left (about 10 years ago), they've improved tremendously. This hospital has literally saved my life on 3 separate occasions, twice for NMS (Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome), and more recently, for DKA (Diabetic Keto Acidosis). I didn't realize my glucose was so dangerously high (over 1300, with an A1C of 13+), and it wasn't until I woke from a coma hearing someone telling me to cough as they removed the breathing tube, that I realized I was so dangerously close to death. They told me I'd been on a ventilator the last 2 days, and when I was brought in by ambulance, I was as close to death as I could get without actually dying. It was so close, that if my husband had tried to get me there by car, I wouldn't have made it. I was in A-fib, and comatose. I was able to leave 3 days later. The care I received was excellent, the doctors and nurses courteous and attentive. My only gripe is that my PCP doesn't have privileges at this hospital.
