I reached out to the office via email and asked to speak with the practice admin and was told she'd…read morereach out to me, I was ignored. I am a 41-year-old woman with a well-documented history of uterine fibroids. I have already undergone two myomectomy surgeries, and I continue to experience severe, incapacitating pain, heavy bleeding, and other symptoms consistent with chronic fibroid complications. I am under the care of Dr. Graf, who prescribed me 800mg ibuprofen, which I rely on to function during acute episodes. I have also undergone imaging under her care, including an internal ultrasound and MRI. Recently, my part-time employer requested that I provide documentation to support an intermittent medical leave request under my rights to workplace accommodations for a chronic reproductive condition. Dr. Graf refused to complete the paperwork, stating that I am 'not under her care' because I declined to take the birth control she prescribed. This denial is both factually inaccurate and ethically troubling. I have tried hormonal birth control in the past, including those she prescribed. They did not relieve my symptoms and introduced additional side effects. More importantly, as a 41year-old woman with no children and a history of fibroid surgeries, I am trying to preserve what limited fertility I may still have. The use of hormonal birth control directly conflicts with my reproductive goals, and I have communicated that to her clearly. Her refusal to support my leave request on the basis that I declined her treatment plan is a form of coercion and a violation of my reproductive autonomy. This conduct amounts to the denial of reasonable accommodation for a chronic medical condition and could be interpreted as retaliation for seeking a second opinion from Dr. Barrett at UMDNJ, whom I contacted regarding the possibility of a third myomectomy. After requesting that her office share my records for review by Dr. Barrett, the tone of my care changed. Despite continuing to use the medication she prescribed and having been seen for ongoing evaluations, she is now falsely claiming I am not her patient. I am also deeply concerned about the racial and reproductive overtones of this treatment. The decision to withhold medical support because I am choosing to pursue motherhood on my own terms rather than submit to a treatment that could limit that choice is alarming. It is reminiscent of the historical mistreatment of Black women's reproductive health. Her actions, whether intentional or not, echo Margaret Sanger-era eugenicist thinking--where reproductive control was not left to the patient, but imposed by the provider. Currently, I suffer from crippling pain episodes that last 1-2 hours at a time, during which I cannot function. I am using up my paid time off at my full-time job and risk losing income and hours at my part-time job due to lack of documentation. This is precisely what medical leave protection laws were created for, yet I'm being denied support simply because I made a personal, medically informed decision not to take hormonal birth control. My concerns have been ignored.

So sad the lack of decent customer service. The worker that answers phones for new…read morepatients, scheduling, etc (didn't get her name) was very unhelpful. Getting an answer to my valid questions were an issue for her. Honestly so rude, looked like she was purposely being a rude soul to not have new patients. God bless her, I hope she finds a job she loves so she won't take out her misery on others.

I did not do any research about the type of pregnancy and birth experience I wanted and that led to an overall negative experience. Going into this pregnancy, I wanted to make sure I had a team that would support me. The midwives and registered nurses at Village Maternity not only supported me and my decisions, but they went above and beyond. They were always easy to reach listening to all concerns, answering all my questions, and providing me with numerous educational resources. They were also very supportive of my goal to have a VBAC, and helped me successfully have one! I owe my positive pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience to Village Maternity. I am so grateful to everyone there and would recommend them to all mamas!

They're evidence-based, and support natural childbirth. And they were extremely responsive via phone, email and even text 24/7. Plus, Metropolitan Hospital, where they deliver, is amazing. Every room is private (for no additional fee), they support natural delivery and don't rush your labor, and all of the doctors, nurses, and staff were extremely warm and kind.
