Friendly volunteers! I mean, this store has CATS so if I could give a million stars I would!

I applied to adopt a cat from this place. I received a very brief email in reply informing me that they had decided not to accept my application. I responded, asking if they would explain their decision to me, and received no reply. I even called them, and spoke with someone on the phone, who assured me that she would reach out to the folks in charge of adoptions and have them contact me. Still never heard a thing. I still have no clue why they decided to decline my application, and I consider it very poor business management to do something like that to someone without even bothering to offer them an explanation. I saw nothing wrong with my application whatsoever. Wouldn't adopt from this place even if they did accept my application at this point. read more

The lead volunteer coordinator here, Patsy Watermeier, put a very bad taste in my mouth. I've been hesitating to give such a bad review to volunteers, but I just think her behavior made me lose complete trust in this place. Other volunteers tried to appease me after the fact, which I appreciate, but it's honestly not enough. Here's the story: My bengal cat had been stolen from outside my home and dropped off at Spaymart anonymously with a threatening note attached to the kennel. The note had a very clear threat that the thief would steal my cat again if (s)he had another chance. Patsy called me after scanning her microchip, which I am so grateful for, but she gave me a 10 minute lecture on how she thinks I should be raising my cat, bringing up every detail she found on the microchip database ( 'if she gets lost so much then maybe its a sign you should keep her inside'). It wasn't until 11 MINUTES IN that she gave me the address to actually pick my cat up. I had asked her to save the threatening note for me but she did not! In fact, she informed no one else about the note's existence and instead threw it away, in the dumpster, before I had even arrived. Obviously, this letter is evidence of theft, and very handy for creating a police report. I called her multiple times to ask her about the note and she refused to contact me, communicating only through other employees in a tough middle-man, don't-shoot-the-messenger, situation. Not once did she apologize for making the mistake of throwing it away. I asked if she could at least help recall what was in the note, since she was the only person who saw or read it, and she refused, claiming she did not want to 'be involved'. Easy for her to say, after she involved herself in how I raise my pets only 2 days earlier. Now I am worried that my cat will be stolen again and the only piece of evidence that existed was carelessly tossed in some dumpster, and the only witness to it refuses to even acknowledge me. She strikes me as someone who is at best careless and at worst complicit. I hope I never have to deal with Spay-mart again... p.s. thank you for the hoards of unsolicited advice, but my cat will retain outdoor access. read more

I go to Spay Mart Thrift Store at least 2 or 3 times a week. I love a good bargain and many of their items are very nice and in good condition. EVERYONE there is extremely nice. Many of them are volunteers. I cannot believe some of the reviews that I just read! I have always been treated very well! Sometimes i just go to visit the employees. It would be a great place if the prices weren't sky high. I understand that their funds are used to benefit something worthy, but that is the case with many thrift stores. An item that would be a dollar at most thrift stores is $10 here. I wish I could afford to shop here. read more

More than just a thrift store, Spay Mart Thrift and Gift is a cat-lover's paradise! Come browse through the beautiful household items they have for sale and make sure to stop by the kitty den to say hello to one of the twenty (or so) cats they have who are waiting to be adopted! Most stay in the two rooms on the side, but don't be afraid of the two or three cats wandering through the store, especially Claude, the CEO (Cat Executive Officer). Don't have any money to shop? Just come play... um... I mean "socialize" with the cats, many of whom are strays and generally afraid of people. As a regular volunteer in the thrift shop, I see people who come in just to pet, brush, or cuddle the cats without a thought to any of the items in the store! read more

The Spaymart Thrift and gift is located at the back of the shopping center, behind TJ Maxx. Very friendly staff and a nice selection of items, set up very boutique-style. One of the best parts is you can visit with some very sweet kitties looking for their forever homes that are visiting in a lovely environment in the window! SpayMart is an amazing organization helping lots of cats find their forever homes. The Thrift and Gift store is full of treasures as well as two rooms full of friendly cats who love visitors. Selections include pet supplies, seasonal decor and holiday decorations, collectables, hardcover books, furniture, purses, china, cookware, kitchen gadgets, toys, puzzles, jewelry, and artwork. Proceeds go to support the cats in the store and at the sanctuary in Mississippi. We adopted a cat from Spaymart over 5 years ago and return to the store often to visit the kitties and check out the new things for sale. Highly recommended! read more

Rude staff and volunteers, including the person at the top. I don't go there anymore. Was told that they would not accept any cats in my neighborhood unless I gave them $1,500 to send their cats to Maine. I was purchasing over $160.00 of merchandise (including a used sofa) when the rude worker/volunteer told me this info........so I then, asked for my money back and never went back. (FYI- I have multiple cats in my home, so I was not asking for a favor, I was only trying to help the multiple cats that showed up in my neighborhood and didn't belong to anyone. I thought this was a non-profit organization that helped cats!!). read more

I found out about spaymart while searching on pet finder to adopt a cat. I decided to take a ride and check it out in person. The staff was very very friendly and helpful and the place is a pretty neat place. However, I picked a cat to adopt and filled out all the necessary information on the application and brought it back the very next day. Spent 20 minutes in the room with the cat I wanted to love her and hope she would be mine. I still have not heard 1 word from the lady who is in charge of adoptions. So many cats need good homes and yet (she) can't find time to review an application or make some phone calls to references? It makes no sense. I had my heart set on this cat but I don't think I will ever go to spaymart again. It's just a dissapointment. Especially when I could go elsewhere and adopt a pet within 48 hours. My heart is sad for the cats there. They will never find homes at this rate. read more
