This was my first time using Hand & Stone services and only my second experience with getting a…read moreprofessional massage. My husband purchased a gift card for me to surprise me with a massage for Christmas He was told at the time of purchase, that if he spent extra to add on services to exfoliate my hands and feet, then he would have spent enough money to qualify for an additional $50 promotional gift card. When he asked what that was for, he was told by staff that customers typically use the promotional cards as part of the gratuity portion of the bill of service to tip the staff, so my husband spent the extra money to get the promotion under the impression that I would be able to make an appointment and just come in, be treated, and be able to pay for services and gratuity with his gift cards that now hold over $200 in monetary value. I was instructed to arrive 15 minute prior to my 50 minute session to fill out paperwork which I did, however the extensive questionnaire took longer than the 15 minute timeframe allotted, and then afterwards the staff at the front desk proceeded to further ask me questions about what I wanted to get out of my massage appointment that was now cut 10 minutes short due to their pre-operative interrogation. When I presented my gift card and promotional gift card and stated my intentions for payment, I was informed by the front desk staff that the promotional cards cannot be used for gratuity and can only be used for add-on treatments. I told her about my husband's experience and she was unwavering, stating that he was given incorrect information and that I can use the promotion another time, or to add on a service if I wanted to. I asked her if I could then pay for the add-on services that my husband signed me up for with the promotional card and then use what was left on my gift card for gratuity, and the staff looked at me like I was not making any sense whatsoever. At this point the masseuse has come out to the front desk because we are now almost 20 minutes into my massage session and I felt like the front desk staff was looking and treating me as though I was the most frugal human on the planet. I had to clarify in front of the masseuse that my issue was not with providing gratuity, I was simply trying to use all of what my husband has gifted me and that this was not what he was sold, this was a big miscommunication. I was extremely uncomfortable with how this confusion was being handled. No one was sympathetic or understanding accept my masseuse, Connie. Connie was the only positive part of the entire experience. As soon as she guided me back to her room, I completely broke down in tears and explained how humiliated I felt. She was so understanding and professional and treated me with the utmost respect and kindness. I spent half of my already cut in half massage experience in tears, and she maintained complete composure and she helped relax me with her own calming presence. When my session was finished, I was met back at the front by the original staff where she asked how my experience what and I responded that it went fine. Then she asked if I wanted to book my next appointment and I declined, and then I respectfully asked to just be shown where I could leave my gratuity so that I could leave. She then made me stand there while she reviewed the membership program to me even though it was clear that I was not interested and I even told her I was not interested in a membership program, I still had to listen to the presentation while trying to leave a tip for Connie. Once I finally could leave, I called my husband from my car in tears and apologized for wasting his expensive and thoughtful Christmas gift to me. This was the worst experience I have ever had from something that was supposed to be a loving treat. I truly feel like my husband was completely taken advantage of that day when he first walked in, just wanting to buy me a nice and thoughtful present.

When I got to my appointment I was told the masseuse has a "wrist condition" and was unable to provide the desired pressure. I had to continue with the massage and did not get what I needed at all. I then contacted them and asked them for a refund or another massage and they said they will get the manager to speak with me but that never happened and now they blocked my phone number. I do not recommend at all!

Stay away from this place!!! On February 2024 my husband…read moregave me a gift card for a massage. I had the massage and liked the therapist deep tissue technique . Against all my life experience of memberships I was naive enough to sign up for the monthly membership. The front desk team is trained to sell the membership and tells you every lie they can come up with to make you think that the membership is risk free. They assured me I could cancel anytime. When I tried to make my next appointment they told me it was the therapist last day. I had a couple of massages with other therapist and it was a waste of time and money. I tried to cancel the membership but the manager ( rotating door of staff) convinced me that she had hire 3 new therapists and that I would not have any issues booking appointments for deep tissue massages. I agree to stay. I found a therapist I like but she only works Monday-Wednesday 9 am to 3 pm. For us working people that is not convenient. She soon became booked and it was hard to schedule. I decided to cancel. I wrote a letter and hand delivered to the front desk. They took the letter but told me that I could not cancel with a written letter that I would have to cancel via a link the manager would email me. I received the link in May I canceled the membership. At that time I was told I had to make another payment because of their policy. I understood. By then I had 2-3 months worth of credits because they had canceled appointments at the last minute and then is hard to get an appointment with their one good therapist. I received a email survey to provide feedback of why I was leaving. I gave good feedback and let them know I was leaving due to financial reasons. The team and therapist were always nice to me so there was no reason to give poor feedback. I just didn't like having to take time off from work to see the good therapists. In my mind I had paid the last month and was free of this financial drain and stress. I never checked my bank to make sure the payments had stopped. Yesterday November 29, I received an email from Hand & Stone letting me know that my $79.85 monthly payment had been withdrawn. I had received emails from them before but I deleted thinking it was advertisement. I checked my bank account online and discovered that they never stopped taking my money after the membership was canceled in May. I am furious!!!! I called Hand & Stone, the young lady told me the manager would be in on Sunday 12/1 from 10am to 3 pm. I left a message to call me. Of course I didn't get a call. At 11 am I called and spoke with the same young lady. She said the manager wasn't there. I reminded her that she told me she would be there from 10 am to 3 pm, she said she came to work but stayed only for a second. I asked for a corporate number to speak with someone. She said they don't have a corporate number. It is obvious to me that this people are either incompetent or just simply unethical. Do yourself a favor, do not sign a membership ever with this people. You will only aggravate yourself. They say you will save money by signing up for the membership to received the discounted rate, however, when you check out, they ask for a tip for the therapist which it is understandable, however, on a separate tip iPod they change the fee from $79.95 to the " the market massage rate of $130.00" so you end up paying a higher 20% . The whole thing is built to screw people out of money. Stay away!
