I recently went back to Spartan Stadium for the first time in six years and it was fun being there again. I love the atmosphere and being around so many fellow Spartans. As an alum I'm obviously biased, but I feel like the fans at Spartan Stadium are fun and respectful for the most part. That being said, the stadium itself has seen better days. It's a bit run down and crowded, and the signage/wayfinding is really terrible. We were wandering around forever trying to find our section, and it was tough to find anyone to ask. The security employees only said, "we don't work here, we just do security," which is fair, but we were frustrated. The section numbers and signage were confusing, but we finally found our seats. The ramps to get to the upper sections are steep, so be prepared for a bit of a workout. One big change from the last time I was at Spartan Stadium is that they now sell alcohol. Crazy! We bought a couple beers to celebrate this occasion. They were much more reasonably priced than I expected at $10-$12 per can. The crowds were not any more unruly than I remember, which I know was a concern with the addition of alcohol sales at the stadium. The seats are bleachers and not the most comfortable but our section wasn't packed, so we had some extra room. Section 109 was directly in the sun for the entire afternoon game, just something to note. It was HOT! Luckily we were able to move into a shaded section thanks to a friend who had extra tickets. If you're a Michigan State fan, I highly recommend trying to attend a game at Spartan Stadium. Go Green! read more

I grew up going to this Stadium. Then went to college and hold season football tickets to the team. Much of the food, except in the front has not changed in multiple decades. How about walking tacos in more places? I hate hate hate hate the fact they got rid of programs. How about programs for non conference and conference games or one every month. read more

We were in the area and decided to take the tour. The speaker was friendly, and so knowledgeable about the history of the team, players, and stadium, but delivered the information in a clear and entertaining way. We really enjoyed this tour. We tried to go back and get his name, but we were too late. (Also, some lad tried to step onto the pitch after we had been given the rules. The speaker noticed right away and assertively, but politely repeated the rules to him and his group. His protection was impressive.) read more

Let me first start by saying, I'm a Wolverine and I love our hometown rivalry. This was my second time at Spartan Stadium and it is so much fun. We enjoy coming to the U of M, State Game as we are both on opposite sides of coin! lol Both teams were undefeated going into this game so the game was extra special. One of my friends hosted a huge tailgate party right by the stadium, We had an absolute blast. I have to say that Spartan Stadium is a very nice facility and the State fans are awesome! Being a Wolverine in a sea of Green, I had hoped for a better outcome of the game! I'm confident...next year will be our year! lol GO BLUE! read more

Yeah, I'm biased, but wow. What a cool stadium! Yesterday, I was able to go to my first Spartan football game, and what an experience! The fans were super fun, and overall, they were quite polite, even to the visiting fans. The stadium itself is amazing with not a bad seat, fantastic lighting, booming speakers and huge display screens. An incredible place to see a game! read more

A great place to watch a football game! The stadium is old, with most of its core infrastructure dating back to the 50s with the exception of the press box upper deck concourse. In recent years, new facilities in the endzones has vastly improved the lower bowl experience, but the stadium still has that charming old feel. The scoreboards, added about a decade ago are top notch in college football. Fans are loud and the stadium traps in the sound. The club level has heated outdoor seating which is AMAZING in November. The east upper deck needs a renovation BAD. Avoid this area if you can, especially when it gets cold...the wind absolutely pelts this area. I love college football and the charm of its historic stadiums. The game is what you come for, and the GAME experience and views are great from every seat. Spartan Stadium isn't as famous as the stadium down the road, but it provides an equally great, if not superior experience. Traffic in and out is generally handled well. Lots of freeway access and many routes in and out help. Great tailgate spots: International Center, Union/Grand Ramp, Breslin Center Lot, and near and around the Auditorium. read more

Older stadium, without the history of the stadium in Ann Arbor, watching a game is fun, parking was ok.

So much fun! Their concession food is good- we got the hotdog special and some cheese and a soft pretzel. No seats are bad... everyone is very friendly. The scoreboard is amazing, and it is just so much fun to be there. read more

Saw a home opener. First the good parts Not a bad seat in the house. We were in the upper deck and could see all the action. The tailgate scene pre game is above average. The facility itself is very dated. Concessions were way below par compared to other stadiums. Restrooms are filthy and old. Access to the upper deck is via walking ramps which is difficult for many people. They may have elevators but they are hard to find if they exist For such a great school with a great football program they need to work to improve the stadium experience for fans read more

I am an alumna of this great University. I came back to watch a game to reunite with my college friends after 10 years. Love the new improvements to the new stadium. I bought tickets from StubHub and had a blast at the Michigan State vs. Iowa game. Drinks are pricey. A bottle of water is 3 bucks. You are allowed only one sealed water bottle. I would recommend bringing one. It can get warm on those September. Regardless love this stadium even more after the improvements. read more

The Big House it is not. There the handicapped get treated better with special seating. The football is better too but I digress... Got freebie tickets to see U2 with Florence and the Machine here. Brutal. All bench seating in the blazing unrelieved hot sun. No handrails for handicapped hubby to make the trek up some 30 rows of seating to our *seats*. No options for anything else for us seating wise, we did ask, yeah ummm was unaware of your setup or I would have sold the tickets. When I called I was told it would be *no problem*. Ha! Concessions consist of wretched lukewarm hot dogs, brats, nachos and dried out tough pretzels. No relish or onion but there are jalapenos. You can get extremely watery overpriced pop or lukewarm spendy water, with no cap. WTF? You cannot have a cap? I confess I had part of a couple of snowcones to raise my blood sugar rather than eat the wretchedness. The bathrooms here are only a slight step up from porta potty. Ugh, puddles through the bathroom. I was grossed out. This place was redeemed by staff in the stands. They let us chill out under the overhang for quite awhile in row 60 something, letting my husband put his leg up to boot. When the people who had tickets to our temp seats up at the top came, they were super sweet and traded for our middle of the stairs pair (row 46). Very nice. It saved my husband from hiking stairs each time he had to go to the bathroom. Also saved me (Casper white, glow in the dark) from quite a wretched burn I am sure. I would not come back by choice unless I obtained a real seat. Boo! Hiss! for the treatment of the disabled by the people in charge. Much love for the kindness of strangers and the security staff. read more

Spurting Stadium is named after what happens exactly when you make someone pregnant. The fans here often shout "This... Is... SPARTA... ... n Stadium." First-Hand Experience: Info on my personal visit to this stadium - after a mediocre concert in Lansing, I wasn't too optimistic about how passionate crowds could be. I was wrong. The crowd here was pretty fantastic. I think because the stadium was a little run down and dirty, that my experience here wasn't as great as it should have been. It was 2010 last time I was here for a sports game, although I did come by the stadium in 2014 while I was driving through MI. The employees who work at this stadium aren't particularly friendly, either, by the way. I've been to every cool stadium in the UK & North America, due to my obsession with travel & sport. I've toured America as a musician for 7 or 8 years. In that time, I've seen sports games at, or visited when empty (and usually both), at almost every major stadium in US and Canada. I have pictures of most which I will upload at some point. Also, on future travels, I plan to take new pix, and add more stadia! Watch this space! ***back to regular review*** Michigan State plays here to a wild crowd of 75k. It's a vast stadium and it's really thrilling to be here and to feel the intensity of the crowd. The fact that they don't allow bags of any kind is unusual and annoying. The steep sides make for absolutely incredible views but the crowd aren't nearly as loud and intense as nearby Michigan. Plus my concerts here haven't been amazing. Not in this stadium, sadly. I wish. read more

I won't let the multiple close losses this season affect my review for the venue. Back in the glory days, I loved attending any Big Ten sports on campus with friends. So when recently returning for the first home football game i have seen in a while, I was excited to re-experience the energy of Spartan Stadium. As an alumnus, I finally sat during (most) of the game as opposed to the perpetual standing of the student section that I once volunteered to do and because some season-ticket holders did not make it to the game, one of my friends and I were able to sit in comfy cushioned folding-type chairs that were bolted to the bench. After sitting and taking in the view from the lower bowl, I noticed the sprawling, digitized scoreboard, which actually helped make the atmosphere a bit more polished and a little less cheesy (compared to the old one) with its subtly changing advertising, vivid picture and closed-caption commentary. And finally, the bathrooms were not as bad as I remember. The lines seemed long but moved fast with numerous university employees maintaining cleanliness and managing the people. read more

Spartan Stadium - Wooo! Go Green! - Stadiums & Arenas Near Me - East Lansing, Michigan

As an alum, this place is fine but it could be much better and I'd be more eager to take friends/family who attended other universities. I've been to the Big House and although I don't care for the team that plays there, it's a nicer stadium overall. Positives: Spartan Stadium has very friendly people working there. There is a cool vibe overall on campus when it's a beautiful day and you can walk amongst the tailgaters. Overall, I felt like the place was as clean as it was going to be minus the jackholes that throw their beer cans all over. Negatives: The bathrooms are old and tight- my husband said the men's room trough was disgusting- he's been to Wrigley and said that it's is better and it's older than Spartan stadium. The concession stands are the worst- he missed half of the 2nd half waiting in the never ending line to buy water. They need to spend less on the score boards and take care of the inner dealings of the stadium as fans comfort should be a priority. Positive/Negative: You can't take purses (no room for them anyway). take a butt pad or something else to protect your arse from the bleacher seat (it is what it is) read more

As a former member of the Michigan State University Spartan Marching Band, I have spent much time in Spartan Stadium. Natural grass field. The most recent expansion (completed in 2005) added a gorgeous new pressbox, 24 luxury suites, and 862 club seats. Several university departments are housed here, such as the Career Services Center. For the past several years, the band has held its annual celebratory dinner in one of the luxury suites. The view from these suites is rather impressive, but good luck affording THOSE season tickets. ;) If you are in East Lansing during football season, a visit to Spartan Stadium is a must. read more

The only thing worse than Spartan Stadium is the offense that plays there. It takes forever to get into the stadium, because they added a second deck but not any gates. Getting into the second deck is a pain because you have the choice of steep stairs or an endless ramp. The concessions are terrible, I've had better at high school sports games (and the Breslin Center has WAY better concessions). The seats are cold, metal bleachers and are extremely cramped. Oh, and the MSU athletic department does a crap job of running things on game day... like when they locked the thousands of people out of the MSU/UofM game this year and didn't tell anyone what was going on, even though everyone could hear the game still going on inside. Thanks for putting everyone's safety at risk as the many drunk (mostly UofM) fans tried to start a riot. About the only good thing I'll say about Spartan Stadium is that the sight lines are good. read more

Great stadium, great on campus location, lots of parking even for a campus stadium. All the fans I talked to were very friendly and welcoming. Now the bad, the ramps up the upper level are steep! It's a beautiful day for football! Spartan Stadium... my happy place. New scoreboard and digital advertisements are great, I was so impressed during my last visit (Homecoming, 2013). The only thing that could be better is more concessions representatives walking around during the game. Only had a cotton candy guy and water guy come by once during the game (and we were there the entire time). Bathroom lines might get long but they move really fast, and there are plenty of food options (hello TURKEYMAN! and Melting Moments!) to choose from in the concourse. read more

Wow. This is a really terrible stadium for a team that is really pretty stellar. We were the opposing team here. No one was very friendly to us. No one was really rude either. Apathetic, I suppose, would be the most appropriate descriptor. Now, before we even got to the stadium, my handbag (it's not THAT big) was declared contraband. Really? You can't take bags into the stadium? At all? So guess what, I hiked 2 miles round trip to take it back to the car and missed the entire first quarter. First strike. Should you not put this on the tickets when you send them? This is a crucial detail. What if you have a baby or small child? It makes no sense. I'm okay with a bag search, but there are things I need in there (uh, sunscreen for one) that simply don't fit into pockets. Once back inside the stadium, my friend and I joined our husbands in our seats. We had four seats, and neither of us could fit because it was packed tight (it didn't help that the diminutive woman next to me had her legs spread wide to discourage us from sitting next to her - in our assigned seats). So my friend and her husband ended up watching from the ramp. These are expensive seats, too. It was absolutely a waste of money. None of the ushers seemed to care that there wasn't enough room. We left before half-time. Our team was losing, but that is not the reason for the bitter review, as I expected we would lose. I will also say the food smelled absolutely putrid. I refused to eat anything. It's your standard overpriced, over-processed fare. Those who run this stadium seem to care not about the experience. read more

Spartan Stadium is a blight on East Lansing. When the new scoreboards are on, you can see the illumination miles away. What a way to spend $20 million while raising tuition rates. Also, you can no longer bring any bags into the stadium, not even purses. Spartan Stadium has a few nice features. It takes no time to get in on game day because of the numerous gates which are all open. You have great sight lines from almost every seat. The concessions now take credit cards. There are several bathrooms. Although the men's are troughs. Since they moved the band you can now hear them clearly from anywhere inside the stadium. read more

So it's a college football stadium. It's big, there are lots of benches, and the product on the field has been pretty good, for the past seven years. The atmosphere is great, and the band is one of the best in the country. The facilities are decent, at least for the men. The food concessions can be stack up, but with 80000 people at a game, at sometimes it does get busy. Compared to other big Ten stadiums, the facilities are better than most. Getting to the upper deck seats, going up the ramps, can take 10-15 minutes. As for the marching band, it's worth watching them march into the stadium from the music building or Abbott field - north of the stadium across the bridge from the spartan statue. The band marchs the "Series" into the stadium - each section does a set of specific moves. There is no woodwinds in the band, except for the squads of saxophones. The bands entry onto the field is pretty special too. They also preform at half time, and after the game, and then they march out of the stadium. We typically wait for them to perform after the game, to let the traffic clear. read more

Entry and egress isn't bad even for a packed Wolverines-Spartans rivalry game, the food choices are okay, the restrooms are tolerable, the seating is typical. The climb up to the cheap seats is arduous but because the rise is so steep, even way up the view is pretty good. The negatives are the extreme security measures, absolutely no bags of any sort, which is more than a bit inconvenient. They do give you fair warning with an almost absurd dispersal of warning placards en route, ala 1950s Burma Shave road adverts. The bigger negative is the crowd. I do expect more drunken hooliganism than one experiences at the oddly sober Northwestern home games, but I was thoroughly disgusted when the crowd loudly and openly booed a PSA against rape. I guess they were booing because President Obama was one of the people urging everyone to take a stand against rape, but I don't know that racism is a good excuse for misogyny. read more

I love the new scoreboard and I am excited to see the north-end renovations started. I know it is going to continue throughout the rest of the stadium and as an alum (full bias here), I just love being on campus. For this game I had end zone seats about 40 rows up and it was a great view of the field. I have sat all over the stadium (including on the 50 about 25 rows up, the best seats I have ever had there, just amazing) but the atmosphere is more important to me than the seats. If you are sitting around a good group, it is a great time. To Recap: The Good: Tailgating with friends, walking over to the stadium, singing the fight song and getting to be a kid again. I try to come back once or twice and I always have a blast. The Bad: I know it is going to get updated, but right now the food is basic "stadium food". I tailgate, so I rarely eat at the game, but if I wanted to, very limited options. The Band This Stadium Most Resembles: The Spartan Marching Band. Go Green! read more

The men's rooms are gross. No one likes the trough. The entry ramps to the seating are steep and slippery. You sit on the knees of the person behind you. You poke your knees into the person in front of you. If your feet are over size 11, don't expect to have room for them. Other than that, the view's always good, the scoreboard's great, the Spartan Marching Band is unsurpassed. read more

Full disclosure: these 5 stars are likely more out of nostalgia than anything else. As a Michigan State alum, football Saturday's were absolutely my favorite time of year, and in all 4 years, I think I only missed one game. Michigan State fans often get a bad rap, but Spartan Stadium is our home, and we're very protective of it! The updates they've made over the last few years, including the newer LCD screens and revamping some of the entrances has made a huge difference. Aging Spartan Stadium is long overdue for a substantial and badly needed upgrade. Recent additon of scoreboard and advertising screens takes it from mid 1950s to mid 1990s feel. Concessions and facilities are woefully inadequate and parking nonexistent. Yet you cannot beat the atmosphere for Spartan football games. Knowledgeable fans, although they tend to whine long and loud no matter how well the home team is playing. Anyone who crows about recent improvements must have never been to a game anywhere else, where even the lowliest opponents have greatly upgraded the game day experience. read more

As much as I LOVE my Spartans and the electric vibe at the stadium, the stadium itself is just OK. The lines are long to enter the gates but they move quickly. No bags allowed of any kind, and be prepared for a pat-down of your jacket and pockets. I guess this is the norm for stadiums these days. There are quality scoreboards and screens on both end zones. Food selection is really bad. You pretty much get a choice of hot dogs, nachos, soft pretzels and popcorn. There was 1 stand that sold a Doritos walking taco, thank goodness for that. The bleachers cram people in SO tightly. Literally butt cheek to cheek, and your knees are crammed into the back of the person in front of you. Really hope that your seats are not in the center of a row because there is no easy way to move about without making everyone stand up and step on their toes. It is a long walk of ramps to get to the upper deck. However, when you are there on a beautiful fall day to watch the Spartans, it's easy to forget about the annoyances of the stadium. read more

There really is nothing better than watching a football game at Spartan Stadium. Being an MSU student, I feel that MSU football games really what bring the campus community to come together and celebrate. Personally, I love going with all of my friends to the games on Saturday afternoons or evenings and standing up in the student section for the entire game cheering on the Spartans to victory. I always love watching the MSU marching band put on a spectacular performance on (during halftime) and off the field (sitting in the stands). However, my favorite part about MSU football games is MSU's pride and enjoy Sparty the mascot.
