I was a visitor from out of town. Came in to find a bouquet for my best friends house warming gift. The owner was there to help us. She was so welcoming and helpful. I explained to her that I loved the orange Dalhia and fall colors. She was able to create a bouquet for me using the flowers I loved in about 10 minutes. The flowers were all so fresh and stunning! Highly recommend Sparrows Florist. I called the day before to see if they could deliver a floral arrangement to my mom for her birthday. Her favorite flower are gladiolas, which are really tall and apparently aren't used in normal everyday orders moreso for events. They didn't have any in stock but offered to get some from their wholesaler and deliver the next day. The arrangement was so beautiful and my mom really loved them. I don't remember the gentleman's name who answered the phone and walked me through it but he was very helpful and patient in answering my questions. read more

My son decided on a whim the night before that he wanted to go to Homecoming. Son Priority--a date and a clean car. Dad Priority #1-what to wear. Dad Priority #2-helping with a corsage. I chronicle request for homecoming entire yesterday evening. Ironically, it was a similar story to this one. This story is important to me, though, because I prefer to support small businesses that WANT business. Finding a florist that wants your business and is willing to work with you on an inflexible timeline is apparently difficult in this area (Athens/Madison). Maybe that is the world's norm and I'm just very much spoiled to my old fashioned small and easy going hometown of Geneva, Alabama? I started the morning calling around in search of as the florists opened. My normal go-to florist thought they could help me, but when the young lady tried to take my order the big boss decided they were full for the day only five minutes into it. I was told by another florist that they "cut off homecoming orders on Monday." I appreciate honesty--don't let me down. However, the message is they have all the business they want, loyalty as a customer doesn't matter in a pinch, and there is no desire or capacity to make a few extra. That's a business philosophy...okay. Enter Sparrows Florist. They had no Yelp reviews, but other review sources were encouraging. At this stage I was in the avoid driving to Huntsville stage. The Sparrows website says they open at 9:30 AM, and they answer the phone promptly at 9:30 AM. The young lady who took my call was friendly, professional, seemed to want my small business, was genuinely happy to help, and had my order taken and a receipt in my inbox in less than 3 minutes with a pledge that I could pick it up today around 3 PM. As I hung up the phone I had a sense of relief, and I actually felt like I was a customer and not someone asking to pay for a special favor. Instead I felt relief...and the familiar feeling that I miss "at home in my small hometown." Pickup--the store is easy to find in a familiar Madison shopping center (old Winn Dixie/Star Market for the folks who have been here for a while). In modern day, it is near Michael's. The corsage was exactly what my son needed, the price was reasonable by comparison (they didn't charge me extra for same-day service), and their customer service was nothing short of fantastic. This little florist just earned my loyalty and business from this point forward. That isn't a lot, but compared to the average American I am likely above average with florist spending. I do not hesitate recommending Sparrows with all five stars. I'd give them six if there was a super rating. I'm glad to start their Yelp reviews properly with a good experience. read more
