Waldorf education is a blessing and gem in the realm of childhood education. After researching the Waldorf curriculum and the holistic creative development of children that it cultivates, I discovered the Waldorf school of San Diego. They then referred me to this Waldorf charter school in La Mesa. Like most charter schools it is not perfect and funding is an ongoing issue. My daughter had been coming here since second grade and is now in seventh grade. My other daughter is in second year of kindergarden. I have seen my children grow as more conscious humans and have felt supported by the school in its many changes. I would recommend researching the school and seeing if your parenting values align with this curriculum. You will feel the hearts of the teachers, the kindred spirits of parents, and the spark of children through this school. It truly takes a village to raise a child and I am blessed to have found my tribe here at Sparrow. Thank you for all you do!

Ancient Indian traditions were the focus in this learning block in 5th grade.

I toured eight preschools (maybe more?) and BunnyBears was far and away my first pick. There is so…read moremuch to like at this school, from the focused and kind leadership of the director, to the Reggio-inspired philosophy, to the diversity of staff and families (which our queer and mixed race family values). We feel like our kiddo has learned a lot about community and herself. There are some downsides, as there are everywhere. I don't love the location, right off a busy road, and there's been some teacher turnover, but the school feels really safe behind gates, with a lovely outdoor play area, and there's been a lot of continuity with other teachers. We're headed to TK soon and are really, really bummed to leave the BunnyBears family, but are so glad for the experience.

We've been at BunnyBears for two years, and it's been the best experience for my son. We chose this…read morepreschool because we wanted a focus on social emotional development, and a place that allows the kids to play and explore. This school is exactly that - they put so much effort into giving the kids freedom to figure out who they are and explore their interests, all while teaching them how to be good friends and kind little humans. This is not a traditionally structured preschool - you won't find worksheets or desks, but you will find a Reggio style environment that intentionally allows the kids to lead. No school is perfect, but it's clear the teachers are all trying their best to create a safe and open environment for the kids. Teacher Donna, Teacher Linnea, and all the other teachers, have had a huge impact on my son, and we can't thank them enough. We'll miss the sweet little BunnyBears community!

When I scheduled a tour and saw the wild play space with a mud kitchen and rope swing, it felt like walking through a childhood dream. That was over 3 years ago, and since then both of my kids have attended Lilac Sea. Now they point out nasturtium, stinging nettle, and wild cucumber on neighborhood walks and teach us little blessings with hand motions at mealtime. They love taking friends and visitors on "insider" tours of the canyon where they play. I'm grateful to give my kids a childhood anchored in nature at a time when kids are spending more time than ever isolated indoors. It makes my day when I see pictures of their little group splashing in rainsuits on wet days or celebrating a birthday with a felt crown (hand-sewn by Mallory as a gift) and special candle.  Our oldest has transitioned to kindergarten, and I credit Lilac Sea for helping her develop the focus, creativity, and confidence that has her thriving in the classroom and beyond.

Ms. Mallory has been a wonderful guide for our daughter & classmates - she gives them independence and freedom to let their creativity run wild. Lilli comes home tired and happy =) We would highly recommend Lilac Sea to any one needing an amazing, nurturing, outdoor preschool!

The school itself is clean, safe and welcoming and it's in a nice area. My daughter is excited to go to school everyday, has amazing relationships with her teachers and has made friends! Her teachers work with her to break her out of her shell and she has grown so much while attending school. She comes home everyday excited to tell us about the activities she did, what the kids are up to in class, new things she learned and how much fun she had. She loves the different playgrounds, the art activities, her teachers and so much more. I would say that for our daughter, the price has been worth it since she has grown so much and she has been equipped with so many great tools for life and school. Thank you to every staff member for having a worry free and enriching environment for children and making a difference in my daughter's life. *Tadpoles is the App that is used to send photos and updates to parents and I love getting update throughout the day and daily reports to see what our child is up to and to have conversations with them about their day and projects.

There was no loyalty to me as a parent who helped them establish their fledgling facility. I understand having no availability at the moment but I would appreciate working with a parent who had been loyal, was there from the beginning and helped increase their enrollment by sending many Carlsbad parents to them. Not as much as even a response. Just heads up, the teachers they hire are kind and great with the kids but the owners have always come across as cold and uncaring. More concerned about the bottom dollar than the children's best interest.

My kids have always come home singing songs and learning so much - by the time my oldest started Kindergarten they were already reading, writing, and way ahead of their peers - and it's all thanks to KCC. Sad to leave as our youngest moves upward and onward, but truly a gem in local childcare. We'll miss you!

We feel incredibly grateful to be part of such a warm, welcoming, and enriching school community…read more From the very beginning, our family has felt supported not just academically, but personally as well. The teachers and staff truly go above and beyond to create an environment where each child feels seen, valued, and encouraged to grow. We currently have three children at the school, and each of them has had such a positive and unique experience. The balance between strong academics and character development is something we deeply appreciate. It's clear that the school is focused on nurturing the whole child, building confidence, kindness, and a genuine love for learning. One of the highlights for our family has been the musical program. Our daughters have been involved in the school musical, and it has been such a meaningful experience for them. Not only have they grown in confidence and creativity, but they've also formed friendships across different grade levels, which has been so special to see. The sense of community that comes from these programs is truly something unique. We couldn't be happier with our experience and feel lucky every day to be part of this amazing school. It's a place where children are encouraged to thrive, friendships flourish, and families feel genuinely connected.

Even the inside of the middle school was a disappointment because there were no walls separating the different classrooms. Fast forward to present day, my daughter is in 8th grade and I am so sad she is now leaving MHA to go off to high school. Mrs Robertson is now the director at the middle school, there have been major staff changes, they even spent all summer redoing the entire inside of the school! There are walls, student lounge areas, amazing new staff, Mrs Robertson's office is right there so she can oversee everything, and there is even a counselor that comes once a week that will meet with any student or parent that might have any issues or concerns that they want to discuss, they have monthly meetings with the entire middle school about mental health as well. My daughter is thriving and loving school! We feel so confident and comfortable with her there. We love the new/returning staff, new programs, building updates, etc. I wish they had an MHA high school!! We have a younger daughter that will be at the middle school next year and we are so happy that she will be at MHA. She has some learning disabilities and the staff has been so accommodating to her. We really appreciate all the positive changes that MHA has made for this school year. Not only are the students more happy this year, you can tell the staff are excited to be there as well. Thank you MHA!!
