What should have been one of the happiest experiences of our lives turned into months of stress, frustration, and ultimately an awful experience on our wedding day. Planning our wedding became a part-time job for 9 months after ownership changed in early 2026. We spent countless hours emailing, calling, following up, correcting errors, clarifying agreements, and trying to get answers to basic questions. The biggest problem was constant staff turnover and the complete lack of communication surrounding it. Every time someone we had been working with left, we were not proactively informed. We would simply stop receiving responses. Emails and calls went unanswered for weeks, sometimes followed only by a bounce-back saying the person's email was no longer in use. When we finally reached someone new, we essentially had to explain our entire wedding history again. There were also repeated errors and inconsistencies in our agreements. Commitments promised in writing or verbally were later reversed or questioned, including services contractually agreed upon and signed off on in October 2025. Ten days before our wedding, the director told us the reception space would not be accessible the day before for setup, despite previously assuring us that it would be. Management also assured us they would be present at our wedding. Not a single person in management who promised to be there showed up. Our primary contact left the hotel the day before our wedding, and we were never informed. We found out the day after our wedding from front desk staff. Then came one of the most egregious issues: our wedding-night accommodation. Our signed contract specifically included an Executive King Suite, reserved since October 28, 2025. When I arrived in my wedding dress with my luggage to check in, we were told the room simply had not been added to the system. We spent approximately an hour of our wedding day dealing with hotel staff, in person and by phone, trying to obtain the room we had already contracted for. Management never appeared in person as promised. Instead of taking photographs, celebrating with family, or enjoying our limited time with guests, we were dealing with the hotel over an accommodation explicitly included in our contract. Other hotel guests actually approached us, bought us drinks, and apologized for how we were being treated. After an hour of arguing, a standard king room became available. The following day, we were held up at the front desk for over 30 minutes while staff attempted to charge us $230 for the alternate room, despite being told it would be complimentary because the hotel had failed to provide our contracted suite. The suite was not the only wedding package commitment that was not fulfilled. Most of our guests were not served the bread included with our wedding-package dinner service. Our wedding cake was never cut or served, despite cake cutting and service being included in the signed package. Our entire wedding cake went unused and is now sitting cut up in our freezer. We also experienced issues with food portions and missing ingredients compared with our tasting. Setup we had been assured would be completed was not done when we arrived, forcing us to scramble to address it ourselves. We were also assured we could use an outdoor area for photographs, only to find dog feces and trash there. These were not complaints about a wedding that wasn't "perfect." These were basic services, accommodations, and commitments that we had specifically discussed, been promised, and agreed upon. After the wedding, we contacted the hotel and asked how they intended to make the situation right. We gave them multiple opportunities to address the problems. Unfortunately, we again had difficulty getting responses, and their final response left us feeling that they were more concerned with protecting the hotel's bottom line than taking responsibility. Our wedding day cannot be redone. The photographs and time we lost cannot be recovered. If you are considering this hotel for a wedding, read your contract extremely carefully, document every promise in writing, keep copies of every email, and confirm every commitment repeatedly. Do not assume something will be provided simply because a Marriott employee tells you it will be. We trusted the Detroit Marriott Livonia with a once-in-a-lifetime event. Unfortunately, our experience is now inseparable from unanswered emails, constantly changing staff, contractual commitments not being honored, scrambling to fix problems ourselves, and spending our actual wedding day arguing over accommodations we had already been promised. I would not recommend the Detroit Marriott Livonia as a wedding venue.

The hotel is in the middle of an interconnected spiderweb-like complex of other hotels and office buildings and parking lots. Our room itself was pretty good, with a comfy bed, large TV, good working WIFI, and a bath shower with plenty of hot water and pressure. The breakfast dining room is quite small, and food choices (when they were stocked) included cereal, oatmeal, bagels, waffles, turkey sausage patties, scrambled and hardboiled eggs, juice, apples, and muffins. The breakfast goods were not well stocked with many things being empty. I saw one guy trying to squeeze the last drops out of the waffle machine by tipping it over as though he was tilting a pinball machine. When we mentioned to one of the staff that the coffee creamer cannister was empty, she kind of glared at us an dismissed our notification with a wave of her hand. The room rate was $112, and taxes brought our total to $124.32. Parking is free.

The first night, my upstairs neighbor was stomping, pounding, dancing, walking loudly, exercising or something of the type well past dark, until 1 a.m. or so. I normally don't have trouble sleeping in hotels, but when the walls are literally shaking there's only so much that the fan and a white noise app can do. The second night, I heard the same ruckus start up by about 9:30 p.m. as I was checking emails and preparing for the next day. Having not gotten my full night of sleep the day before, I was immediately filled with dread that I was in for another long night. I went downstairs to speak to the employee at the front desk (I'm sorry I didn't jot down her name) and explained the situation, asking if I could move rooms or we could find another solution. She very kindly offered to go speak to the resident(s) of the room above me and said if the noise continued after that, she could move me to a room on the 4th floor--just call down to the front and she could bring up the key. I have no idea what she said to my upstairs neighbor, but it absolutely worked. The noise died down, and I got a great night of sleep. I don't remember hearing a single door or footstep. I had a late check-out since my husband had a class. I was surprised when his 2 o'clock return time ended up being after four! I didn't know what to do since we took an Uber here from the airport. Becky said I was more than welcome to wait in the lobby as long as I needed to for his return. She was very gracious and kind. That made my wait less awkward. She also gave me some chocolate chip cookies, that made my wait more enjoyable. Watching Becky work was amazing, she was here, there, and everywhere!
