The stylist, Kristen Eiden, convinced my daughter that she needed to have her hair colored (instead of highlighted) and proceeded to spend 4.5 hours to accomplish this. My daughter came in with a picture of how she wanted her hair to look (see attached pictures). Instead of blonde highlights, she came away looking like a brunette with some gray mixed in. Kristen convinced my daughter that her hair looked good and had her believing it until she got to look at it outside of the salons lighting. After seeing her hair, she began to cry because she strongly felt that she would be made fun of at school. My wife reached out to the salon that evening stating that we had significant concerns with the styling. The receptionist said she would reach out to Kristen and have her contact us. We didn't hear anything back, so my wife tried reaching out to Kristen via Facebook Messenger and received no response at all. My wife called the salon in the morning and asked to speak with a manager. She was told that the manager/owner wouldn't be contacting her back until the end of the week! My daughter literally refused to go to school, so we were left with no other option but to go to another salon to have her hair fixed. We finally received a call back from Kristen, 24 hours after the incident occurred, and she and the owner of A Day Away Salon refused to issue any kind of refund and took zero responsibility for the issue that had occurred. If you want absolutely terrible customer service and a botched hair job, this is the salon for you!

Either way, unfortunately this may reflect badly on the business since it's a review about her. I'm sorry to the business, this is about MANDY. My daughter was so excited to get her hair done for her 13th birthday, it's been a promise since she was little. We get her scheduled in advance, with multiple reminders sent and accepted. Our appt was at 11:00, we live 20 mins away, she text me and called me at 10:30 sounding like she had just woke up asking me to change the time to 11:30, or 1:45. I told her 11:30 was fine, we get there are 11:25 and she is not there. I text her and let her know we were there, she pulls in a few mins later looking like she rolled out of bed, smoking a cigarette and grabbing her subway with no rush of getting us in. I had to ask if she was Mandy because she acted like we didn't exist in the car right next to her. She reaked of cigarettes when we got in there, her chair was filthy, and she didn't even know what my groupon was for. I tell her it was for a cut, condition, blowdry, balayage or ombre....she looks at my daughter's hair and says she's going to upcharge us $150 because of the length and thickness....totally fine, if it was mentioned on the Groupon website. She tried to make it our fault that it wasn't advertised properly, she continued to repeat why she wouldn't honor it. Due to it not being on Groupon correctly and her wanting to argue with me about it, my daughter didn't get her hair done. She got a call while sitting there asking if she could meet at someone's house later and do their hair. So not only did she NOT wash her hands after smoking her cigarette, she didn't honor what was purchased, she tried to make it my fault saying "all my groupons SHOULD say upcharges for length and thickness." This has been complained about on Groupon as well, but I wanted everyone aware since she does pop up with this business. Now we have to go somewhere else and my daughters so bummed out. But due to the awful experience she was totally fine without having her hair done because we weren't sure how her hair would look after.

Most recently, she did my extensions, and she did an amazing job. After losing a lot of my hair to PCOS, the extensions have given me the length and that feeling of fullness back, not to mention, she took the TIME to make sure my extensions were done properly, even rescheduling her next appointment so we'd have plenty of time!
