Had to review at least one Eurospar while visiting Austria…read more Eurospar is the mid-size store of the "Spar" variations, and this one was also mid-level in cleanliness and stock. It wasn't as clean as some other Eurospars I stopped into, but it wasn't the worst. I love the containers of fresh bread and pastries you can grab and go. Lots of fresh produce and good optima for dairy and cold groceries. Also tried a kombucha from here and really enjoyed it.

Life as a Half Japanese Bastard can be hard sometimes…read more True it has its ups with being allowed to be geeky, nerdy and pervy.. whilst pointing at others telling them, that they don't understand my highly evolved culture. But as these cravings come and go like the uncontrolled ramblings of a madman. There are others, which are harder to satisfy... like getting a good rice cooker which has more functions than "cook" and "warm"(not that I'd use them.. but it's always nice to have the option, ne?). Bonito Flakes, Sweet Potato flour and blue nori for my delicious Okonomiyaki. The right Curry Dices from several brands, so my famous Curry Udon doesn't taste the same. Tsukemono for my cleansing Rice, Tofu and pickled Vegetables dishes. I could go on and on .. but I guess that I made my point. If all other Asian Shops fail in satisfying my needs, Nippon Ya is my last resort to receive my precious items. I know what you think: "Isamu you noodle slurping, stereotypical Geek-Jap... why don't you just go there in the first place?" The answer is pretty simple: Though they have a great selection on japanese brand products, including tea kettles, Yukatas, books, Dvds and so on, their price range is above all other Asian Shops, unless there is a "Dai-Seeru"(Big Sale) It is a shop run by Japanese for Japanese living in Austria and their specialization and charm allow them to put their price range into that league. But as my money is always short, I only go there, if I don't have anywhere else to get several products. On a side note: they sometimes have special cooking occasions, where one can join... charming^_^

I want to love this place but I can't quite because both times I went, they most definitely poured me a smaller glass of sparkling wine than local people who spoke German. I watched in almost disbelief as they did it two days in a row. I've seen Americans cheated before in some countries. For example, in Italy, not only did they volunteer an English menu, the prices on it were higher than the menu in Italian. Sad, because we Americans are more likely to tip, since it is what we know. Overall, Julius Meinl is a cool and interesting place, just don't expect a full drink unless you appear a Regular. Great sushi, though!!!!

This Spar location was our go-to during our Vienna stay. Because we rented an apartment (highly…read morerecommended BTW) versus staying in a hotel, we had a small kitchen. That meant almost daily trips to Spar for fruit, yogurt, cold cuts and beverages. This location is fairly small, but had pretty much everything we needed. The aisles can be cramped, especially when the place fills up after school with kids buying snacks. That said, we found that prices here were generally less than the nearby Billa. Of note - there's a good and reasonably priced wine & beer section, and their prices on the ubiquitous "Mozart candies" are way better than the boutique places in the Inner Stadt. Stock up on your candy souvenirs here and save some euors.

Spars are an indispensable part of life whether you live in Europe or travel there regularly as I…read moredo. That neon green sign is always a welcomed sight for us whenever we're in Germany or Austria. We rented an apartment just around the corner on a recent vacation and found ourselves here almost daily. After renting an apartment with a "European sized" fridge, I understand why everyone shops at stores like this. They have everything you need, just in small quantities. You just can't stop up on groceries here like we do in the states. This particular location was very well stocked for a store its size. Most things are "grab-n-go", single serving size. I am particularly fond of purchasing single cans of beer, especially in the .5l size. Checkouts were always friendly and efficient and the total was always way less than I expected. We were here 5 times in 8 days. I think they should change there logo to "Jeden Tag Spar!"

It's actually much bigger inside than I realized. Husband went to grab some beer and there was a corner I hadn't even seen before. They had an Asian section with fake Sriracha! The chips section was bigger than their cheese section, but the candy/chocolate selection was the biggest so if you wanted to buy treats to take home, they've definitely got plenty. This might just be an Austrian thing, but their bananas were on sale and were still pretty expensive. 1.99 Euros for a kilo?!?! Really impressed by the variety they had: pomegranates, cactus fruit, mangos, pineapples. The sale flyers are right by the entrance, next to the baskets. It's worth grabbing and skimming through, because we saw baguettes were 0.89 Euros each and grabbed several. If you want fancy cheese, it's right behind the tower of Mozart balls, but the cheaper brie and Laughing Cow-type cheeses are on the other side by the yogurts.
