The idea is to reduce the amount of packaging waste, which I wholeheartedly support and am happy to be able to do here in Vienna. I often go here to get spices, pasta, and rice. They have a wide variety and are decently priced. The fruits and vegetables they offer are also always fresh and I love that I can buy just what I need. Since I'm cooking for just myself, things often go bad before I can use them if I buy at a regular grocery store. And they don't look at you funny if you buy just two carrots, an apple and three potatoes. Also they try to keep everything local, even the jam and other non-perishable products they have. You can also stop into Lunzners for a coffee and cake or even a small meal. The desserts are always delicious and make you feel good for eating them! All in all this is a lovely little place. It reminds me of my local coop back in Minneapolis and I was absolutely thrilled to find Luzners!

I never expected to be able to cook up a big pot of berbere lentils with ingredients from the corner grocery store in Vienna (no offense, Vienna, but last time I was here I didn't find international ingredients quite so easily). Ignore the review from the weird Scottish lady below. The cashier was very friendly, not at all "nasty." (??) Also he fist-bumps his regular customers. It's a charming neighborhood vibe in there. Note: next week they're having a big international food, dance, and music festival outside the grocery store. How cool is that? What other groceries do you know that host festivals? Hofer? Aldi? Billa? Nein.

It reminded me of Fred Meyer's in a way where there's food but also kitchenware, a bit of clothes, books, toys, etc. It was reasonable priced and I enjoyed walking there and had fun looking at all the foods that I've never seen or different varieties! There were so many cold cuts and sausages, it was fascinating! I also was grateful for free wi-fi since I had to use Google translate :)

The selection is really good here, especially at the deli where you can get roast chickens and spareribs that are already prepared. Of course, because of the extended hours of this particular store, it can get hectic on weekends, especially on Sundays, since most other Billa stores in the country are not open. The checkout counters run smoothly and fast, which is a huge plus in my book. I have even heard the employees give various ideals/tips and assist customers with questions that don't even deal with the grocery store. Now that is customer service at its best! Seeing the employees having fun at work is also a good sign that things are going well at Merkur. Its a grocery store that has it all.
