I don't play guitar, but I listen to (read: endure) my husband playing both electric and acoustic and have become quite a fan, and an afficionado of guitar shops of Brizzle. This is the friendliest and all the staff we've spoken to know their stuff and really care about each classic guitar (as if they were their children for some of 'em!!). The rows upon rows of wooden instruments are a delight to behold, and I saw everything from a small training guitar for a child, right through to a rare Spanish masterpiece for 4 grand. They'll replace a string for free (you have to buy the string obviously) and the guitar books on offer are great - right from nursery rhyme tunes to Queen's greatest hits (done acoustically, of course). This is a lovely, friendly place to ask advice about, and purchase, a classical guitar. They are just as comfortable advising which first guitar to buy for a child to begin the Grades or for a concert quality fully-professional instrument for the experienced player. Self confessed guitar nerds, the staff at the guitar centre are passionate about guitars. Their fortè is mainly nylon stringed Spanish guitars, with an extremely wide price range. Little known to me until today, they have a second room at the back of the shop which houses their crown jewels - the specialist guitars where the price range is for serious players, ranging from £1000 to £3000+. they are utterly beautiful, displaying astonishing levels of craftsmanship and excellent qualities of sound - obviously each is different, but if you're seriously looking for a new Spanish axe then they'll be happy to advise and let you peruse their stock. As a graduate of guitar performance, I was extremely impressed with their stock, levels of knowledge and general helpfullness, all in a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. At the front of the shop they've got guitars for a tighter budget, ranging anywhere between £50 - £500. I have to admit that I love the sound of a Spanish guitar, so when the one I brought back from Barcelona snapped for no reason (I mean the bridge just popped off of its own accord, like it was committing suicide, which had nothing to do with my playing, I assure you), I used to pop round to this excellent shop in Redland to murder a few tunes and dream of the time that I could own one again. Admittedly, I could have gone for one of those £50 jobs, but they sound god-awful and the real reason you come to a place like this is because they stock the bone fide Spanish models that sound absolutely gorgeous. Yes, I must have tried every guitar in the shop (bar the shit ones, as I was saying) over the course of six months before finally settling on my new baby, an Admira model made in the North of Spain by some flamenco ninja. The staff are extremely helpful here, too, so always feel free to ask anything. After all, they put up with me not spending a bean for months (and never looking likely to either), which is why I trust them and eventually decided to spend my money here. Top notch. read more
