You may as well toss your 24Euro in the trash rather than endure this nightmare. It started a half-hour later with pickup at our hotel. We took another half-hour driving around town picking up other travelers, not all of whom were on this tour. We were then taken to a central underground bus depot, where we actually bought our tickets and were shown which bus to board. Although advertised as "English", it was actually bi-lingual and the "guide" spoke more in Spanish than in English, taking time that he could have spent explaining things in more detail. The "guide" had all the charm of an un-tipped waiter and the tone of a tape recording. He didn't even introduce himself to the group or make any opening remarks. We just suddenly found ourselves on the road, listening to a voice that may have been the bus driver's for all we knew . The "guide" spoke so fast we had trouble following him, even though he repeated himself several times. The photo stops he made were useless. One was at a vacant lot that overlooked a statue of Columbus on a busy street; another was at a bull ring, which i found nauseating, even though the place was closed. Although the "guide" told us it is possible to go in and view the arena, this was not true. What you could do was by a 12 Euro ticket for tour of the bull ring, which was not possible in the 15 minutes he gave us for this stop. The "guide" could not even answer a simple question about Madrid history when I approached him and he was more interested it taking his cigarette breaks than relating to the tours. We got a brief glimpse of a few historic buildings and perfunctory comments about them and Madrid's history - practically useless - and no real photo opportunities. Several people left the tour after the first hour and we did the same when it stopped near our hotel, thus avoiding a very long walk or cab ride from the point where the tour would have ended. Much of the time was spent stuck in traffic on the city's busiest streets, while other tour buses made their way through the back streets and stopped a places like Plaza Mayor and the nearby market, rather than whizzing by them with barely a mention. The driver was not very good and drove in such a herky-jerky stop & go manner that many of us were nauseous by time we escaped this ordeal. We paid for a short, cheap tour and that's pretty much what we got. Avoid at all cost!

The room layout was a little weird but not a big deal for me since it had all that I needed including a minibar. A desk would have been nice, but I was OK with just a comfy chair and table. The bathroom was spacious, with a big shower and bidet, hair dryer and toiletries. You also get nice robes and slippers. My only concern was the entrance to the gym since you must go out a door, take some stars out in the open before getting there so make sure you have a sweater. I visited during restoration, so the elevator wasn't going to the last floor, and you had to use the stairs. I didn't mind the climb since that was a great warm up, but things were still in construction, and it was dark and dusty so not the best first impression. The gym itself was great, they had water, apples, extra towels and a good selection of machines and weights. The gym is located at the top of the building, so you get a nice view of the Neptune fountain. I'm guessing this is all temporary and it will be fixed soon. Good experience overall!

So yea -- other than an annoying lack of electrical outlets to plug my devices into -- this is a good option for the price.

And by history, I mean, Felix goes all the way back to 200BC when the Romans conquered the Iberian Peninsula, LOL. But if you want to get a better sense of Madrid (and Spain) and how it came to be and what you're looking at, then book this tour! My husband LOVED it and he does not often gush about people or things. I was also amazed that he said he prefers the smaller groups, which is exactly what I wanted/needed. I didn't want to be attracting a ton of attention as a horde of tourists, nor strain to hear at the back of a giant crowd. Second, be prepared to walk...a LOT. I can't remember how long the tour is advertised as (I was looking at so many sites, they all blended together), but it was probably almost 3 hours, but I'm sure if we'd told him to cut it shorter he would've. He is passionate about his work, about Madrid, about Spain, its people and its history and his love shows. We didn't walk the entire time because he does a broad overview of the Spanish timeline of who controls what before starting. But just be aware of the weather--it was early June and it was mostly pleasant when we met him at 11am, but the sun quickly got more uncomfortable as time went on, so wear sunscreen and good shoes and bring a water bottle (he'll even show you where to fill it up along the way). We didn't necessarily hit all the sites on the tour description because I think he kind of tailored it to us. We met at Puerta del Sol, strolled down Calle del Arenal to the Opera House, walked thru the Plaza de Oriente to the Royal Palace, over to Plaza de Espana, then to Templo de Debod, and the lookout over the city, over to the main Palace entrance and Almudena Cathedral and the ancient Moorish wall. We wrapped up in Plaza de la Villa where we tipped him and said goodbye (you'll have to bring cash). I noticed he skipped Plaza Mayor and Mercado de San Miguel, which was fine by us because we'd already seen them and I imagine it would've been packed with tourists and pickpockets :) Don't know if you can request Felix, but I know he does the Essential Madrid tour (that's the one we booked). This was a tour I did not expect much because it was FREE !…read more Made a free online reservation before leaving for Madrid for our group of 4 and initially did not expect much because it was a no cost tour. Upon arrival to the Opera metro station, our guide: Rodrigo was there half hour early with his bright red Strawberry Tour umbrella. A lot of people stopped by and inquired about the tour because the umbrella said "gratis". Rodrigo greeted us with humor and enthusiasm - had us sign in and took a group photo of us all. He asked each tour participant if they had any allergies or dislikes. Rodrigo really showed he cared about our experience before we took off tapas eating! There were 11 of us who were in the group and all were accommodated perfectly at all the businesses. Sure enough, our first tapas stop was within easy walking distance from the metro station. Rodrigo explained before stepping into the business of how things will go, how food will be paid, what is served, specialties of the house, etc... All 4 stops were just amazing. At each stop, you can decide what you want to eat with your beverage of choice. He also will share the common tapas items (olives, nuts, chips, etc)... Cost was about 5€ per person at each place. We ended up at a final place: cider tasting event where we had to pour the cider from above your head to your cup near your knees. The cider is a rough, rustic apple fermented drink that is bad tasting from the bottle, but when poured at a height, the air mixes with the beverage and tastes a bit better. Very low alcohol in the hard cider.... We paid Rodrigo what we thought the tour was worth at the end of the tour - about 10€ per person = 40€ was our tip to Rodrigo. An excellent event that I highly recommend - especially those who are unsure of what to expect or pay a large amount to an unknown tour operator. You pay only what you think it's worth to you! A very good business model indeed!

Like most European hotels, you have limited control over the thermostat. When the heat is on, you aren't able to switch to a/c. As someone who prefers a cooler room temp, this can be solved by turning off the heat and opening the window. The property has a nice gym and there is a bar/restaurant in the lobby. With the WiFi, it is a nice place to have a drink and work in the evening. NH is part of Minor hotel group, and they have a solid rewards program, particularly if you live in Europe. I have used my points to pay for drinks and snacks, and will use them one day to book a hotel when planning a European vacation. As a special touch, the staff always leaves a welcome note and a farewell note. Such a thoughtful bit of customer service!

They had six floors and only two elevators. One of the elevators was broken, so it was tough going up and down stairs. The one elevator working only holds a maximum of six people. The room was very pleasant, except it had twin beds pushed together, which was strange. The bathroom was really nice, but they need a grab bar in the shower. I loved the mirror for make up. The hairdryer was on the heavy side. They should have a newer one that is much lighter. They had slippers in the room which I loved, and also a light that you just touch the top and it gave you really good light. The breakfast was better than most. I love fruit and yogurt and some of the breads were really good. Lots to choose from. They have a small bar And we ended up having gin and tonic's 2 nights. They were made really well and we got snacks with them.. We were close to numerous restaurants and expensive shops.

Anthony, the tour guide and owner of Madsegs, is a nice guy who first gave us a brief lesson how to operate and glide a Segway. After the lesson we received our personal Segway (1st generation Segway) for the tour which lasted about 4 hours. Anthony showed us places which we wouldn't have visited walking around. We had a nice snack break at the middle of the tour. Later Anthony also let us glide down steps with our Segway which is, so Anthony told us, most unusual for Segway tours and unique in the world. Anyway, the most important reason to book Madsegs was that they allow children to glide a Segway as well, if they know the traffic rules and behave properly. We can really recommend Madsegs and their tour and the pricing was reasonable. After the tour we received a CD with pictures which Anthony has taken while we were gliding. A great service!

So cool...I bought one when I got home....and then bought another one....because one segway doesn't do two people much good....although....with the luggage rack thingy....we did put two people on the thing... ...back to the review....very charming and extremely informative owner/guide This is a terrific way to get some familiarity with the city...great first day in the city thing to do. I tend to go to Spain in August...when no one else does..(and I can actually use my FF upgrades)...cheaper....and yes...some things are closed. Very nice to cruise around on the segways on a hot day....creating your own breeze. I would also suggest a 2nd tour in the afternoon/evening....do some off road segging.....
