I was really looking forward to my first facial at the Peak a little more than a week before Christmas. I had a gift card to this place and it seemed quite nice, so I made an appointment. The aesthetician seemed nice, and first did a "skin assessment" under a bright light. I had to ask her what the results were, and she said "combo skin" and began putting products on my face. She asked if I wanted something done to clean up the hairs around my eyebrows, but I didn't know what it was called. I said it sounded fine if she recommended it, so she started using a small tool around my brows, and it felt like an intense sandblasting/ripping feeling. A bunch of other chemicals later, she warned me that it might sting, but if it got too intense, we could stop. Alright... it did sting, like crackly fireworks, but she warned me, so I just went with it. At the end I was shiny and really red, but I thought that was just from being massaged and messed with for ~45 minutes.
But a little bit after, I realized that whatever eyebrow treatment happened went pretty wrong. I got a penny-sized red, raw burn above one eyebrow, and a bright red, enflamed patch to the side of my nose where a small zit had previously been. She'd given me a couple tiny pods of "post-facial" tea-tree oil, so I put some of that on, and stayed home for the rest of the day, hiding. But by that evening, the patch over my eyebrow looked like a full on chemical burn where a few layers skin had been removed. I called the spa the next day to let them know what happened and to ask them to take a look at it and see what could be done. The receptionist said they couldn't see me until much later that day, so I waited, then I drove back across town.
When I got there, no one seemed to have any idea what was going on, or that I had an appointment. The front desk woman shrugged and said "sometimes people just have different reactions to the treatments." No apology, no offer to make it right (a massage maybe? a refund?). When I explained that I had a Christmas party to go to later, the receptionist (not a makeup artist or aesthetician) made a half-hearted attempt to use some of their cosmetics for sale using a DIRTY brush and some concealer. It just looked like she puttied over the angry volcanic craters. I was basically in tears, and it hurt like heck. She tried to offer me some more sample pods of cosmetics and shuffled off. No apology, no resolution. I don't even know why they suggested I should drive across town to go back, when clearly they didn't even know I was coming when I got there, and had no plan for what to do with me. I was too raw and embarrassed to go to the holiday party looking like a burn victim. It was a huge bummer.
Two months later, there are still dark scars in the places where the burns happened, even though I've been moisturizing gently and using Mederma. I've debated writing a review, because, ya know, stuff happens and they didn't do it on purpose. But something went massively wrong with whatever eyebrow "cleaning up" she did, and they never acknowledged it, and never tried to win my business back. But this place is not cheap, and I wanted to warn others about what could go wrong. The woman who did the facial called me the day after because she heard I came back, and promised to follow up with a phone call later, but never did.
