Massage can sometimes be a very vulnerable experience, especially if you're hurting, but she is extremely knowledgeable, kind, and reassuring. My sister warned her in advance I liked a medium to firm massage and Julia did just that - perfect pressure.... PLUS hot stones. I had never had a hot stone full body massage before and it was absolutely delightful. Complete relaxation. The office is in a big office building, but the massage room is in a room with tall ceilings, exposed brick, chairs, candles, music, and aromatherapy heaven. I immediately felt at ease in that room. Today I received a hand written Thank You post card from Julia. What a wonderful gesture. I absolutely love the small town friendliness of the Manistee community. I was set up with a great person who knew what I was dealing with and could apply the right pressure, and move me comfortably through stretches my body needed. I was quite sore that evening despite what would say was gentle pressure, but I knew it was the result of getting good treatment. The next day, I woke up feeling so much better. Sciatica can't be healed over night, but the muscles around the inflamed area were released and allowed my nerves and blood to move freely through the rest of the area. The receptionist wasn't extraordinarily pleasant, but I didn't judge the place on her demeanor, given she wasn't providing me the massage. After a somewhat longer wait (about 15 minutes), Allison greeted me and we went into the massage room. She was somewhat matter-of-fact in asking a few questions, but not in any way rude or inappropriate. When she stepped out, I disrobed and waited for her to re-enter. I will say that the deep tissue massage Allison gave in the next 60 minutes was one of the most therapeutic experiences I have ever had- she put her heart and soul into working out the knots and sore muscles that I had. Her strong massaging and stroking of my back, hips, neck, and shoulders nearly put me into tears, but in a very good way. She asked several times if the pressure was too much, and asked me to let her know if she needed to let up a bit- just like how a professional and competent masseuse should always inquire to a client during deep-tissue. In quick summary, when she had completed the massage on me, I felt like paradise had come down and rested on my body- I felt so relaxed and much less sore. It was an almost out-of-body experience. Upon checking out, I made sure Allison was tipped well-beyond what I usually give, simply because she went well above and beyond what most masseuses provide.
