I love that they are open 7 days per week. My appointment was to help me through a sciatica flare up, I was in a lot of pain. They took care of me! I was set up with a great person who knew what I was dealing with and could apply the right pressure, and move me comfortably through stretches my body needed. I was quite sore that evening despite what would say was gentle pressure, but I knew it was the result of getting good treatment. The next day, I woke up feeling so much better. Sciatica can't be healed over night, but the muscles around the inflamed area were released and allowed my nerves and blood to move freely through the rest of the area. I realize I need massage more frequently through the year, so I will be back. read more

I was having chronic back pain during my travels in Michigan, so I contacted Living Light Massage for an appointment. There was a spot that worked for both parties, so I booked it and entered the studio the following morning. The receptionist wasn't extraordinarily pleasant, but I didn't judge the place on her demeanor, given she wasn't providing me the massage. After a somewhat longer wait (about 15 minutes), Allison greeted me and we went into the massage room. She was somewhat matter-of-fact in asking a few questions, but not in any way rude or inappropriate. When she stepped out, I disrobed and waited for her to re-enter. I will say that the deep tissue massage Allison gave in the next 60 minutes was one of the most therapeutic experiences I have ever had- she put her heart and soul into working out the knots and sore muscles that I had. Her strong massaging and stroking of my back, hips, neck, and shoulders nearly put me into tears, but in a very good way. She asked several times if the pressure was too much, and asked me to let her know if she needed to let up a bit- just like how a professional and competent masseuse should always inquire to a client during deep-tissue. In quick summary, when she had completed the massage on me, I felt like paradise had come down and rested on my body- I felt so relaxed and much less sore. It was an almost out-of-body experience. Upon checking out, I made sure Allison was tipped well-beyond what I usually give, simply because she went well above and beyond what most masseuses provide. We found this massage therapy place by the Yelp reviews and thought we should check it out. The ambiance here is fantastic! It is so low key and relaxing. Everyone is quiet and not loud. It is located on the corner of State street; it is kind of a half circle corner and can be easy to miss. The outside of the building looks like a unique office, but inside is magical. My wife had the hot stone 1-hour body massage. She liked it; however, the use of the stones was too much and she felt the massage was not as full as she likes. I had the full body massage (without stones) and it was deep! The girl that did mine was a real professional and has been doing it for about 15 years. The price on the massages were a bit higher than what we pay back home. They had a water cooler at the end so we could get rehydrated again. We will come back here next year! read more

My husband and I went here for massages during our Babymoon. Serena (sp?) did a phenomenal job on me and made me feel comfortable the whole time. They have a table with a cut out for your belly so you can enjoy laying on your front without worry. We booked this during the Cherry Festival which we didn't know was going on until later after our trip was booked. After battling to get breakfast in the morning we knew we would be a few minutes late for our appointment, given the chaos that comes with the festival downtown. I called about 30 minutes before our appt just to give them the heads up and I got a call back from their receptionist to take our time and get there when we could. We were only 5 minutes late which was better than what we thought, and I feel like they were annoyed with that. I think that living light has a very relaxing and serene environment. When I got there I was a little confused on where the entrance because it wasn't labeled well. The staff was nice and professional but the massage in itself wasn't the best. I have definitely had better massages in the past especially for the price. The prices at living light are a little high compared to others. I would maybe go back and visit another therapist but I am hesitant considering there are many other therapists in TC that can do a better job than what I experiences for a more reasonable price. read more

I had a great prenatal massage and my husband loved his deep tissue massage. I loved that they have a massage table that could accommodate my pregnant body, though I realized that I actually like side-lying massages better during pregnancy. My fiancee surprised me with a couples massage while we were visiting Traverse City to do some wedding planning for next year. Upon entering, we were promptly greeted and asked if we wanted water. Right before our scheduled time, both our massage therapists came out and introduced themselves and brought us back to the couples room. I had my first "real" massage today at Living Light with Em. This experience far exceeded my expectations. I have had a few mall massages in the past, but never the real thing. Em not only has magic hands, but a calming effect on the mind, body and the soul. I liked the fact that I could combine different pressures in different areas according to my needs. she is trained in craniosacral therapy which I am excited to try. Love, Love, Love Living Light massage. I would give it SIX stars if possible. I love the location downtown, so close to my office. I love the staff, so friendly and professional. But most of all I love the 90 minute massages. I was lucky enough to have a massage every month throughout two pregnancies, which made life so much more pleasant! They have an awesome pregnancy massage table which made it very relaxing being able to finally lay on your stomach (something most pregnant women miss). They have an awesome variety of massages but I tend to go for the deep tissue. Carole is great. So is Autumn. There are other very qualified therapists there too but I tend to go back to the same girls each time. As Mother's Day is just around the corner I will be asking for a trip back to Living Light. read more

What a great place! I got an appointment on the same day! Although it was mid-week and I heard that is impossible on the weekends. But, anyway I was thrilled, since usually I wait until I just cant wait anymore and my neck is killing me. So, I am so glad they could take me. The front desk was very nice and offered me water immediately, (i think her name was Michelle???) The therapist I had was great! Unfortunately I cant remember her name! Which is silly since I took her card and somehow lost it in my massive purse. But her techniques were great, she consistently checked in and asked about pressure as well as the background of areas of tension and injuries. She seemed to be genuinely interested in the state of my health :) this is not the case at some spas by the way. I was given the full hour - again also not usual as some places only have 50 minutes or just scrimp a bit on the time. When the massage was over I felt like my neck was able to move and my shoulders had lowered a few inches. It was just great! And the environment is nice. Comfortable, not pretentious, quiet, cozy, laid-back. I love it! It is now my Traverse City Massage go-to. :) read more

My husband and I went here last month for our very first massages ever. My mother-in-law purchased us a fabulous gift certificate last Christmas and we just recently booked our massages. The atmosphere of this place is fantastic. I love the very warm lighting of the entire place. I would definitely not have been comfortable in an establishment lit up like a doctors office. Very relaxing. We were running a couple minutes late but were still offered water when we arrived. We filled out our forms and were taken back within just a few minutes. I must admit I was a little nervous because I am super self conscious about showing any skin to strangers but as the massage went on I finally was able to relax. The table was a tad too warm but that was my own fault for not asking her to turn it down. The pressure was wonderful. I am a bit of a wuss so I asked for light pressure and she nailed it perfectly. She didn't ask a ton of questions so I was pleased to not feel I had to chit chat like I do at the hairdressers. I greatly appreciated that. It enabled me to relax much better that way. The entire massage was wonderful. I do wish they had different music tho or maybe used water sounds instead of the oriental stuff. Just not a fan of that zen like music and would have preferred maybe some classical or something different as a choice. After the massage my husband paid the difference from our certificate and the current price plus told the girl up front to split what equaled a thirty percent tip for each of our girls. Now I guess this is where I messed up, having him shell out the cash because a week later HE was sent a card for a discount on his next return visit. I never got one. Since he doesn't plan on returning but maybe once a year, I planned on visiting a little more frequently but I do still feel slighted for not also receiving a card thanking me for MY visit and offering ME a discount. When I booked it was under my name, we paid cash so we both should have been included on the same card if nothing else but it was addressed only to him. Perhaps I am being silly for feeling slighted but I do. I am still trying to decide whether to book another massage or try someplace else because as I said other than this it really was a fantastic experience. read more

The facility is beautiful and relaxing. The location is convenient and easy to find. The massage therapist I had was friendly and gave a good massage. The front desk was unenthusiastic in person and on the phone. I called a few months in advance to book the appointments for my boyfriend and I (considering we were coming on a holiday weekend) and before I could even finish what I was requesting, I was cut off on the phone and rudely told to "call back in a month" because they weren't scheduling out as far as I was asking. Which is fine, but you can speak nicely to someone who wants to come spend money at your place of business. I worked the front desk of a full service salon for years, and that is one of the most important positions in any business but especially the service industry. They are the first impression. I would probably return, as my boyfriend and I come to TC each year for vacation and we always look for a massage, and the actual services were very enjoyable. read more

My husband and I have been here at least 4 different times. We love Living Light Massage. They offer so many different massage options and are very attentive to your needs. I had a prenatal massage here when I was pregnant with our daughter and the tables they use for this type of massage have a hole cut out for your belly. It was so nice to be able to lay face down. My husband always gets the ashiatsu bar therapy massage (they massage you with their feet) and swears by it. He suffers from really bad lower back pain and always walks away from this place feeling so much better. If you are in the area I would give them a try! read more
