Sleeping (Sovende) Louis is one of the "6 Forgotten Giants" made by recycle sculpture artist Thomas Dambo just outside of the Copenhagen area. He is made of scrap wood and recycled materials. Of course, each giant is hidden and it's a bit of a scavenger hunt to find each one. That said, luckily none of the giants are too far off the beaten path so folks of all ages can enjoy them. Sleeping Louis lays on a hill in a beautiful forest enjoying a nap while folks come and go to admire him. Children play on him, some picnic on him, others pose (like me) with him, while others just stand in awe at Mr. Dambo's creation. You can even crawl in his mouth if you dare!
Since there are others trying to find the giants from all over...you just may make a new friend along the way and/or at least help each other out to find one the other hasn't. It is a lot of fun! If you are looking for something different to do...this is it!
Depending on where you are staying, you'll probably need to rent a car or bike. There is not a train stop nearby, nor a metro station. A bus is possible, but it will take a lot of time. There is a bike path that goes to all the giants and sort of links them together. From what I understand the bike paths are absolutely beautiful. However, this takes a little more time than driving. If you want to drive to them, map them out from where you are staying and/or picking up your car...of course, this will be different for everyone.
The closest parking to Sleeping Louis is at the Jim Jensens Park parking lot. I suggest parking towards the back near the trail so you don't hinder folks coming and going. And if you are having difficulties finding Sleeping Louis, then there is this map on Thomas Dambo's website: https://trollmap.com/#/@55.7337x12.3429z9.7 I didn't find it helpful, but you may.
End note: I am happy to say my family and I found all 6 (happy dance)!!! I just learned there are some in the United States as well...a few are on my hit list! read more
