It's always the best way to learn about the area and find the real local fishing spots. Fishing the White River had been on my list for a while, and I finally had the chance to check it out. A local bait shop recommended Schwartz's Bait & Tackle for purchasing a fishing license and getting advice on where to fish. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the shop's welcoming committee Skipper and Smokey Joe, two very friendly cats that the owner rescued. I later learned that Skipper recently needed surgery and the local community raised the funds in just a week. That kind of support says a lot about both the shop and the community around it. Mason and Jacob were fantastic. Super friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about fishing. They took the time to talk about equipment, bait, tackle, and the ins and outs of the local fishing spots around the White River. It's the kind of place where you can walk in with questions and leave with real advice, not just gear. They also mentioned they'll be offering guided fishing trips this summer, which sounds like a great option for anyone wanting to learn the area or improve their fishing skills. The shop itself has a great selection of fishing gear, bait, and tackle, and the whole place has a laid-back, welcoming vibe.
