This review is specific for Dr.HIGGANS. DO NOT LET HIM…read morePROVIDE CARE TO YOU OR A LOVED ONE IF YOU HAVE A RARE DISORDER. Even with Griffin wellstars reputation, they handled my case with ease and correctly. That says a lot about how easy this should have been. I have acute intermittent porphyria and have suffered with this disorder since I was 3 years old with constant er trips, hospitalizations, surgeries, tube feeding at home and home healthcare for sometimes 8 months straight. It's rare and my medical team consists of 6 specialists, 4 of which are at the Mayo Clinic. I've called them all many times in episodes and every one has always said get to the ER as soon as possible. That is what I am supposed to do. The er is SUPPOSED to help me before it progresses to life threatening. Which will happen if untreated. Short version: Dr HIGGANS; before even seeing me, made a choice about me and my case (that he has no knowledge, experience, or training on) and made his entrance after an hour of waiting in my room by saying I was not supposed to be there and should be handling it at home. (mind you people DIE at home from this disorder by not getting to the ER when they start an episode) Long version: I made the front nurse aware of the disorder and showed DOCUMENTATION and made the aware doctor when he came in. From his terminology I could tell there was an extreme lack of knowledge on his part about the disorder. I made him aware there is a document on the porphyria foundation website specifically created by a specialist for ER doctors to review care protocols as it is a rare disorder and some, like him, do not have the experience to make proper assessments. He ignored everything I said and only pre-scripted a medication I cannot even take DUE TO porphyria. He said he would come back and speak to me after research (that he never did and I know he didn't because it's impossible to read the form as fast as he placed his orders) and of course refused to speak to me when I made to nurse aware I was not allowed to have what he ordered. She said he refused to even give a vitamin bag which is standard since I haven't eaten or even drank water in days. It's even standard for a HANGOVER. How exactly would providing the vitamins be a problem? That shows me he did not care in the slightest for my well-being and would rather have someone else take responsibility as my only option was to leave and go to a different hospital. On my way out I asked to speak to the charge nurse and explained what would happen if I went home and died after seeking help for this disorder. He said he agreed and understands but cannot do anything as the doctor assigned to me had all power over my body and no one else on property had any ability to intervene. Which means a patient like me who goes in and assigned Dr.Higgins has a HIGH CHANCE of being refused medication that is required for the episode and heavily documented and could cause that person THEIR LIFE. And he would be responsible. So I say again, DO NOT LET HIM OVERSEE YOUR CARE OR A LOVED ON WHO HAS A RARE DISEASE OR DISORDER. He would rather let you die if need be then read a form readily available to him and made specifically to guide him through care since he clearly didn't have a clue. Hopefully I receive a call back about this issue as requested to REQUIRE HE HAVE FURTHER EDUCATION AS TO NOT JEOPARDIZE THE LIFE OF CRITICAL PATIENTS. Photo of the link I had available to him and desperately tried to have him read to help him not cause harm to me or someone else. Ultimately he refused. He did everything on the form they tell ER physicians NOT TO DO. HE IS DANGEROUS. And he knows he was wrong or he would have nothing to lose by researching the disorder he was SUPPOSED TO BE TREATING. My family and myself are livid and will be seeking further action if necessary to ensure he does not cause more harm to anyone else.

I let them know I was coming online and Checked in at the front desk fast. Waited about 2 minutes and was called back. The tech got my VS, the nurse then came in to ask about my symptoms and then shortly after the doctor came in, assessed me and then the nurse gave me a Toradol shot in my butt and first dose of antibiotics. Was in and out within an hour with a script for pain meds and antibiotic. I appreciate the fast service when I wasn't feeling well. I would still be waiting if I went to an ATL hospital. Happy with the service I received today 7/17/21

I went to the emergency room at Coliseum MC and was admitted that night and the surgery done a day later. There is no way anyone can say that being hospitalised and having surgery was an enjoyable experience. At least not in my opinion. But the doctors and staff at Coliseum medical centre made this at the very least a very comfortable stay and I felt very safe as far as the virus was concerned. I was on the 5th floor. The nurses, the phlebotomists and the entire staff on the 5th floor are nothing short outstanding. The hospitalists and the entire medical entourage were very professional, competent, and attentive with regular visits, inquiries and updates before and after surgery. The surgery was performed with robotic assist by Dr. John Thomas Williams. I am looking forward to my final visit with him so I can personally thank him for his excellence. I am 73 years old and I've had 3 other laparoscopic surgeries without the benefit of the robotic assist. This stuff is nothing short of amazing in regards to the amount of pain after surgery. From a medical viewpoint we are living in the "good old days". Being hospitalized and having surgery could never be called fun. But, the attention rendered by Coliseum Medical Center, to my comfort, concerns, and condition were all attended to with excellence.

Macon Coliseum N.S. is being penalized by Fed Gov for high infection rates. April 20, 2016: 17 year old patient ACQUIRED two forms of RESISTANT BACTERIA (Serratia Marcescens - a U.S. Navy Biological Weapon AND Staph) DURING SHOULDER SURGERY at Macon Coliseum N.S. Hospital. Patient began running a high fever (up to 103.6) within 36 hours of surgery. Patient was taken to Macon Coliseum N.S. Emergency Room due to horrific shoulder pain at the surgery site and a high fever where the ER nurse made an error while administering his IV. The ER Nurse then proceeded to administer a dose of morphine underneath the patient's skin which allowed the patient to remain in agony for an extended length of time. The ER Nurse finally administered a second IV dose of morphine (again, underneath the patient's skin), turned out the light in the patient's room and instructed the patient to calm down due to his extremely elevated blood pressure. She left the patient. The patient suffered until a SECOND ER nurse checked on him and noticed the large lump of morphine underneath the patient's skin. Nurse 2 corrected the IV error and administered a 3rd dose of morphine which gave the patient some relief. The ER physician ordered a dose of intravenous Bactrim antibiotics and released the patient without obtaining a tissue sample from the surgery site. Several days later the patient was hospitalized for 8 days at Navicent Health for a resistant bacterial infection & emergency shoulder surgery was performed in order to cut out the bacterial infection from the patient's muscle tissue. The patient was treated by Infectious Disease and discharged with a PICC Line to continue two IV Antibiotic treatments - Rocephin & Vancomycin for 6 weeks. Several weeks later, the patient was rushed to the local ER with excruciating abdominal pains, hospitalized for 3 days in order to perform emergency gallbladder removal surgery, bile duct surgery and a biopsy that confirmed liver damage CAUSED BY THE SUPER ANTIBIOTICS. Lab tests confirmed damage was consistent with the use of Rocephin & Vancomycin IV antibiotics. The 17 year old patient will now struggle for the rest of his life with a 30% mobility in his dominant right arm due to inadequate healthcare services in addition to organ loss/damage. Macon Coliseum N.S. was one of many Georgia hospitals being penalized by the Federal Government for a HIGH RATE OF INFECTIONS which patient's are not made aware of when they elect to have surgery at a high infection facility.
