It's really not painful, the needles are much smaller than any medical procedure, and Sarah WANTS you to have a good + healing time so just communicate with her. I literally have been telling everyone I know. If you have a chronic pain issue don't just live with it, fix it! Acupuncture is recommended as a valid treatment by John Hopkins + Harvard. It's not pseudo science, it's real science that works with your nerves and stimulates neurotransmitters. I waited until after 5 sessions (~7 weeks) to post this review, but I seriously feel like I inhabit a different body than I had in March when I had my first appointment (posting this in May). I have had painful tension headaches and migraines with auras my entire adult life - and so does some of my extended family - so I assumed they were just something I had to manage. These acupuncture treatments gave me my body back!

I was initially diagnosed with metatarsalgia by an orthopedic doctor. He prescribed me foot exercises and metatarsal pads and neither of these ideas was helpful. I then went to a physical therapist and completed all prescribed exercises and this gave me no relief. It was then that I came to Acupuncture Health Center to see Dr. Huan Ma. I was skeptical of acupuncture but willing to try anything to see if I could avoid getting cortisone injections and/or surgery to resolve my nerve pain. The results were impressive. By the 5th acupuncture visit, my nerve pain was decreased by 90%, and it was totally resolved by the 8th visit. Near the end of these sessions, I mentioned to Dr. Ma that I needed to have toe spur surgery due to pain between my 4th and 5th toe due to a toe spur. I had been evaluated by an orthopedic doctor for this a few years ago and was told that this was the only treatment option. Dr. Ma informed me that he could resolve the toe spur pain through acupuncture. I decided to give this a try and it was resolved in another 8 visits. I am thrilled with the results and now have saved both the cost and down time that would have accompanied cortisone shots and surgery to resolve both of my foot problems. Thank you, Dr. Ma!

I've tried so many types of recovery and rehabilitation practices and I keep returning to Function. They offer so many different services: massage, acupuncture, cupping, dry needling, etc. Joy is the best! She's very skilled and is the only person I've gone to that can apply the high amount of pressure I need to help my back. They also have a great space, it's super comfortable and they offer free tea. They have their own parking lot so it's super easy to access. Price wise, they have pretty standard prices. It's about $140 for an hour long massage (cupping can be added at no additional cost) which is more than fair for the service they provide. Function is the first place I mention to anyone looking for a massage! They're a great business and offer great deals for first timers.

Jessica French and Nancy Bierma are the people I see for this and both are so friendly and knowledgeable. They always have product recommendations and information if asked but are never pushy about buying products. They recently added a massage therapist to their practice and Ray Neil is AMAZING. My spouse and I have both had massages and have left every time feeling relaxed and/or had pain reduced. The pressure is definitely not too light and she is generally intuitive about what is needed (I have asked for a little more pressure once and it was PERFECT), plus she has some great techniques for stretching/loosening painful areas. I cannot recommend her highly enough. Appointments are super easy to book online; if an appointment time is not available, call to see if they have some appointment times that are not listed online. The officer managers are all friendly and helpful. They also have some lovely products onsite to buy if you're interested, and they will usually offer you a cup of herbal tea after your treatment. They also accept HealthParters and Cigna insurance for acupuncture, just in case you have those carriers and acupuncture is covered under your plan. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Crocus Hill Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine. I am thankful to have found such a wonderful, relaxing, and healing place.

It is operated by Katherine Flesher and Tomas Flesher who are incredibly warm and knowledgable. Really it feels good just being in their presence. They believe that everyone should have access to improving their health through acupuncture so that they offer a sliding fee scale to people of all income levels. Their prices are $15-$40 per treatment with an additional $10 for the initial treatment. It is kind of a self-service operation in which once you go through the initial health history intake you are welcome to fill out your own schedule for upcoming visits or call in to make an appointment. When you come in for your appointment, you go to the front desk where there will be an envelope with your name on it. You then slip in what ever payment you can afford, according to your pay scale, and then insert the envelope into the payment mail slot. After that you take your shoes off and enter into a large spacious and relaxing room equipped with 12 recliners. You choose which chair you would like to relax in and wait for either Tomas or Katherine to treat you. They will address what might ail you, such as migraines, chronic pain, painful periods, insomnia, joint pains, depression, anxiety etc. I usually go in for joint pain because of all the repetitive work I do. In most cases you can not really feel much when the needles are inserted but truthfully some of the needles can at first sting. But through experience I know that the pain is a sign of of disharmony and that the pain is usually short lasting. After wards my joints feel much better. I usually fall asleep during my session. Actually most times I do, I am that relaxed. When I want to end my session I make eye contact with Tomas or Katherine and they take out my needles, read my pulse to see if my symptoms have balanced out and then I leave feeling rejuvenated. Lately, I've been bringing my mom with me to them. She has chronic lower back pain and has been on heavy narcotics for them. I recently moved her here in hopes that through alternative medicine she will be able to wean herself off the drugs. The last time I took her there she said she did not have to take her break-through pain medications and we spent the after noon running around doing errands. Pretty amazing! Open Mon,Wed,Fri 9am-5pm; Tue 9am-12pm, 3pm-7pm; Thu 9am-12pm, 1pm-7pm

It had been almost a year since I've been treated and I was really missing it, but cost was a huge concern. Sllding-scale Community Acupuncture? Problem solved! I dealt with Katherine. She gave me directions over the phone, greeted me, and treated me oh-so-kindly. She explained the system (you pay and re-book yourself, needle only easily-accessible points, etc). The recliners are spaced far enough apart that you still feel like you have privacy to discuss your needs. As soon as the first three needles were inserted, I felt a dramatic shift in my energy and by the end of the session I felt significantly better. Oh, and the space is just wonderful-relaxing music, spacious, the most soothing shade of blue painted walls contrasting with raw brick, and one side is flooded with light and the other dark and cozy. There's an entry with the check in desk to pay for the service and go over any body issues you're having. You're then taken back where it's a big open room with curtains separating the chairs. You pick up a blanket or can bring your own. Masks are still required. Once seated the acupuncturist will place needles in your arms, legs and sometimes head. Clothes are left on but you do need to be able to roll up your sleeves or pant legs. You sit for 45 minutes after needles are placed before she comes back to take them out. This was my very first acupuncture experience so I'd probably go to a 1:1 session before deciding if I like it but I definitely had sone muscle spasms afterwards and had to get cupping for it to help. They're website is easy enough to use but appointments are super limited so it's hard to get in consistently. I also wonder how only placing needles on arms and legs impacts your bodies' ability to release energy. If you already like acupuncture and need an affordable option definitely check this place out. Trish listens attentively and offers treatment and tucks you in with a blanket for a quick Acu-nap. It's really terrific. I have been to a private acupuncturist and was charged $85 for a 45 minute treatment--ugh (I could only go once a month). For the service, community acupuncture is a bargain as she has a range you can pay ($15-40 per session) which is reasonable even if you pay $40. I highly recommend it. The ease of booking, the consult and treatment make it my go to acupuncture spot and I go twice a week. Thanks Trish.
