My girlfriend bought me lessons here over a year and a half ago as a gift. I'd never ridden a horse before and was super intimidated walking into an english riding facility. I was pleasantly surprised by the incredibly welcoming trainers and staff. I had such a lovely experience that I went back the following day, then the following weekend, and the next and the next and now ride regularly every weekend. Beyond falling in love with all of the sweet school horses, what keeps me coming back to Southlands is the generous community of riders, owners, trainers and staff. As a weekend rider who commutes up from the city, I always get discouraged that since I don't own a horse, or ride everyday that I won't make progress and that I might not be as important as the folks who board their horses at the barn. On the contrary, the staff are all so invested in my riding, they go above and beyond, helping me learn not only the fundamentals while riding, but the important aspects of taking care of the horses, helping me find the right gear for riding, and sending me videos of my lessons. I've had the opportunity to try out other barns in the greater Hudson Valley and Southlands is easily the best around. Whether you are just getting your start or an advanced rider, they've got the horses and the staff to meet your needs.
