If you ever wanted to experience the full spectrum of culinary disappointment, Governor's is the…read moreplace to be. As I stepped into the pub, I was immediately struck by the atmosphere--a charming blend of dim lighting and décor that could only be described as dive bar chic. The ambience screams "we don't care" with mismatched furniture that looks like it was salvaged from a Forest Lawn yard sale. Decided to play it safe and order the fish and chips. Who needs a Michelin star when you can fry up some questionable fish and toss it with soggy potatoes? Let's start with the fish. What is this mystery meat? Is it cod? Haddock? It's hard to tell under that dense batter--thankfully, it distracts from the fish's complete lack of flavor. Now, onto the chips. Drenched in vinegar or slathered with ketchup, they still manage to taste like... well, nothing. If you're looking for a dining experience that leaves you questioning your life choices, look no further than here. It's a place where culinary dreams go to die, and if you value your taste buds, I recommend you steer clear. Save your appetite for a frozen dinner; at least you know what you're getting into.

Aloha Modern Kitchen - A Taste of the Islands Right Here in Calgary!…read more I've been meaning to check out Aloha Modern Kitchen for quite some time, and I finally had the chance to visit this past Sunday evening. Let me just say--it was well worth the wait! We ordered the Maui Ribs, Loco Moco, Charred Broccolini, and a few cocktails to round out the evening. As someone who's had my fair share of Loco Moco in Hawaii (it's my go-to breakfast item whenever I visit the islands), I was extremely excited to try it here in Calgary. To my amazement, Aloha's version did not disappoint--the Loco Moco and Maui Ribs were absolutely incredible! Packed with flavor, perfectly juicy, and cooked to perfection. I couldn't stop raving about it, and my guest was equally impressed. If you're looking for an authentic taste of the islands without hopping on a plane, I highly recommend dining at Aloha Modern Kitchen. It's a little slice of Hawaii right in the city.
