don't recommend. bad customer service. change appts on you then charge you extra. If you got a big dog you have no choice.

I have been going to this vet for years and have had decent experiences with all my dogs until my last 2 visits. In November my puppy had kennel cough and was put on meds and everything. 2 weeks later, my other dog started to have the same symptoms. I called the vet hoping to just get meds seeing how kennel cough is very contagious and they live in the same house.. but nope let me pay two $400 vet bills instead of just one. I took both dogs for their annual this year which usually costs me 300-$400 per dog... NOPE this time was $1,200.00 for both dogs!! I couldn't believe it. Not only the cost but my one year old pup is the sweetest and a very shy boy. Apparently when they took him to get his blood drawn in the back he was so scared he pooped all over the table and was rolling to get away from them.. so they muzzled him and threaten to sedate him every vet visit moving forward for their safety. I insisted that he is not aggressive and was probably scared of you so to please let me come back with him moving forward. I held him for the rest of his shots and he was not aggressive what's so ever towards the vet or tech. THEY ALSO SENT HIS POOP FROM THE TABLE IN FOR TESTING AND CHARGED ME WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. Both of my dogs were terrified throughout their visit. I will definitely be finding a new vet!! read more

Worst Vet I have been to. My dog has had an ear infection for 7+ months (it's still ongoing), they kept prescribing different medications instead of doing a culture to find what medications the bacteria was resistant to. After months my dog had so much scar tissue in her ear, she will have issues and trouble hearing for the rest of her life. They clearly didn't look at notes based on my conversations with the tech and seemed to have misdiagnosed the type of infection after multiple visits (I can assume this based on the things the tech said, the doctor was more careful with their words saying a new bacteria was introduced right after I left). When the manager called me to discuss why I was upset they also had not read the history to know this issue had been gone on for months which shows me how poorly this office approaches issues making them unable to provide proper care to both pets and pet owners. I share the opinion of other comments I have read, if you love your pets take them elsewhere. This Veterinary office will lead you on appointment after appointment until you feel like you have been scammed at the expense of you and your pet's well-being. read more

Has always brought my animals here. Never had any problems. The staff are very caring and understand our feelings when our pets are sick. The Doctors are wonderful, I have Dr.Vitali which is a sweetheart and when he had time off we had covering Physicians. I recommend Southington Vet to everyone. I bring 3 of my pets here. The location is convenient for me. I have never felt rushed or left without a question answered. When I first tried to bring in the cat that adopted me while she was feral I could not get her into the carrier and had to cancel the appointment last minute, I called and they were very understanding and told me to bring her in whenever I could get her into the carrier. No appointment needed, just walk in. Which is what I did and they were great with that crazy cat. With my dogs, they have been very good. They took their time, explained everything and called to follow up, even after just getting shots, to make sure they were Okay. This last time I had an injured dog and called at 8:00 a.m. and I was in there at 9:45 to get her leg checked out. Dr. Puskar was great with my dog. For all the negative reviews, they certainly have enough customers so they must be doing something right! My critters like them and I trust their judgment of people. read more

January 24 2023 My dog his name is Boy Dog Jesse and we went to the Southington Veterinary Associates and had to have a growth on his right rear leg. We had an appointment for Feb. 8th 2023. Because I asked to many questions to reduce the cost they called me today saying my dog will no be treated by them. Surgery was set up for Feb. 8th 2023. There was no explanation as to why they made that decision. I went to Vetcoclinics in Southington Connecticut to get the necessary per-op blood work which they were not happy with saying "You need to have blood work by them only. When walking into the site I noticed that the facility was kept in very poor condition and staff managing the phone really didn't help with information. If you go there you will see why I mean when I say in bad condition. I feel strongly that this establishment IS NOT a place to bring you loved pet dog or cat. Beware of there tactics to increase your bill. Now 15 days before having the growth removed they called to to said "no can do, sorry" without any explanation what so ever. As I said earlier not a place to go. Now I have to find a different Vet to solve my dogs issues with his issues which will take time to get any appointment in the future which may take a time seeing it took me more than a month to get on their schedule only to have them just about "Go pound sand" If you go there do yourself a favor. DONT ask questions or your out. I was willing to pay near $1,000 dollars as we agreed at that time of his first visit. Sad how they did me so BADLY because I asked one to many questions. Go there if you may but know one most important thing DO NOT TRUST THEM with your loved one. read more

Recently moved to town, didnt have vet as yet. Chose this one because it's the closest. After giving me an emergency appointment I get there and they Wouldn't see my 10 year old toothless 4 lb chihuahua because she's not up to date on rabies vaccines. Telling me it's state law that dogs must be vaccinated. Well I have a little information for this dismal excuse for a veterinarian VETS CAN WAIVE THE RABIES VACCINE AT THEIR DISCRETION. My dog has been vaccinated multiple times and the last one almost killed her. Thankful I Found another vet, gave me appointment for same day. read more

Following up on my initial review, I have found a fantasy vet to care for my animal, but, Southington Vet missed diagnosing a mast cell tumor which could have had a good prognosis but has advanced now to where it isn't. I went every year to have have my dog go for her check ups and this significant miss shows how this place is sub-par and that's being polite. read more

We have been coming to SVA for almost 10 years now. The professionals here go above and beyond to keep our pets healthy and safe. Our oldest dog has recently been diagnosed with cancer. Since his diagnosis, our veterinarian, Dr. Mazzucola, has been a constant source of support. We call with questions just about every week, and we either get an answer right then and there or by the end of the day. We never feel rushed, and we always get a follow-up call a day or two later checking in to see how he is doing. Prior to our scheduled appointments, Dr. Mazzucola always checks in with our oncologist at another facility to confirm she has the most up-to-date information. She truly cares for our all of our animals, we are feel so fortunate for them to be in her care. Our other dog was experiencing some health issues last year. Dr. Shin ran the necessary tests and explained the results in great detail, taking the time to make sure we completely understood. He is very personable and thorough. Because of his research, our dog is in great health! The Veterinary Technicians are fantastic at calming our pets down during the more stressful parts of our appointments (vaccines, nail trimmings etc.) You can tell they are such animals lovers, and always give our pets plenty of affection. It makes us so happy to see our animals so loved! The Veterinary Ambassadors are kind, organized, and knowledgeable. We often have to leave messages with them for our Veterinarian, and they always ask the right questions, and never make us feel we taking up too much of their time (as I mentioned earlier-we call a lot!). They know our pets by name, and our pets look forward to seeing them when we come in for our appointments. We are so happy at SVA and highly recommend for anyone looking for a professional and friendly facility to treat their pets. We cannot thank them enough for all that they do. read more

Cannot understand what DR. Shin is saying. Communication him and the staff is poor. Brought my dog today to get shots and have her ear looked at. I was talked into having a xray done on her uterus and forego the ear medication, for now, to offset my total cost and have her ear meds next month. The xray was inclusive. Wasted $94.00. ALWAYS plan on spending a minimum of 1.5 hours there. Waited ten minutes for my dog's paperwork which was 15 feet down the hall (I've had root canals done in less time). read more

I have consistently taken my dog for all medical care over the past 8 years to this veterinarian clinic, and, the dog's health has been unremarkable until this past July and current date, in regards, to acute pancreatitis. Recently, my dog had a flare up of probable pancreatitis...I am a nurse with 16 years diverse critical care experience and although my concern was regarding a dog, the principles of care and treatment are the same. The emergency vet provided initial relief for my pet, less than 5 hours later, I returned to communicate this occurrence and to design a plan for potential reoccurrence and try to be better prepared to manage the immediate onset of symptoms, in case of reoccurrence, during closed business hours. BECAUSE the veterinarian at southington vet did not assess the animal themselves....the dr was not going to provide any recommendations and suggested that I should maybe have the ER vet call them to provide a dr. To dr report....EXCUSE ME?! the documentation was provided via fax. The animal was still symptomatic; the clinic did NOT offer to examine her. The animal has a history. The onset is unpredictable and spontaneous. The symptoms include pain and has potential to progress. The medical management to better relieve these symptoms DO NOT INCLUDE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES...ITS AN NSAID, ANTI-EMETIC AND PEPCID WITH TIME AND REST OF THE GI. As far as I am concerned, this is BEYOND UNACCEPTABLE. SHAME ON YOU. 100% DIS-PLEASED. Dr. Vitalli is the ONLY exception. Thank You, Sir, for your attention and expertise. read more

I've never posted a bad review but feel it's my obligation. We have gone here for 12 years, mostly because it's close by. They are always full so getting an appointment is difficult even when a pet is ill it it could be a day or two until they fit you in. They are expensive but most vets are. My dog needed all his shots, physical etc. they quoted me $520. I went to the Petco walk in clinic for the exact same services it was $120. The final straw for me was when my cat was sick I brought her in. They told me it was her kidneys, gave me her medicine and said she could still live for some time. She continued to decline quickly. When it was at the end my children had been begging me to wait but finally she was suffering. I called them to bring her in to lay her down. They gave me an appointment 3 days later!! I begged saying she was suffering could I please bring her then. That said "sorry " can't fit her in...she died that night suffering... A veterinarian should be compassionate, always! read more

So I took my 6 month old puppy to Southington veterinarian Association for a simple spay and cherry eye removal all together it cost me $1,000 I dropped my dog off at 7:30 a.m. I received a phone call at 10:30 a.m. that my dog was in distress I paid the extra $350 to do the blood work to have this done and make sure that my dog was going to be fine to make it through surgery when I brought my dog in the man weighed my dog with her harnessed her leash and her collar mind you my dog is only 8 and 1/2 lb when they weighed her they got 9.8 lb they gave my dog too much anesthesia because the tech was too lazy to take everything offer I made a point to say to the tech shouldn't you be taking off her harness or leash and her collar he says it doesn't matter well my dog's temperature dropped to below freezing and she turned white as a ghost if they had weighed her properly they wouldn't have gave her as much anesthesia and my dog wouldn't have had a reaction she never got to have the Cherry eye done she only got her spay done I will never take her back there again the way they did things is absurd there is nobody there at night to watch the dogs and they don't even have cameras so you're giving dog surgeries and then leaving them by their self from 6:30 p.m. till 7:30 a.m. that's almost 12 hours a lot can happen in 12 hours read more

Beware - stay away from this vet. After living in Southington for a year I decided it was time to find a vet for my pets in town instead of driving to Newington. The actual experience with the vet was fine nothing noteworthy. The vet offered for me to vaccinate my dog for Lyme disease which I have never been offered before. I asked for details and she sold it letting me know that it is worth it, I would just need to bring my dog in for a booster shot one month after receiving the vaccination. The total expense for the visit for over $350 including the cost for the vaccination. When my dog was brought in for her booster shot for the vaccination that I already paid for the office decided to charge me $113 for an office visit because rather than just bringing my dog in back for the booster shot they decided to put her in the room and ask questions as to how she was doing. When I received the bill and inquired as to why they would charge when all we asked for and all she needed was a booster shot we received nothing but pushback on that $113 charge. Are they that desperate that they would prefer to lose a new customer to nickel and dime and suck every last penny from you? Would they purposefully ask questions of your dog, when there was nothing wrong with her and when you were not inquiring about anything just to take money from you? When I called about the $113 and got nothing but nastiness I told them to cancel my appt. for my cat that I had the following week and I told them that I would not be paying $113 for a booster shot when I already paid for the vaccination in my original visit. To show just how much a class act this company is, I did not receive any correspondence until tonight when I received a notice from a collection agency. MONTHS after my encounter with them and without additional bills being sent to my house. Stay far away from this vet. This is not a vet office concerned with the welfare of your pet, they are only concerned with one thing and that is taking as much money as humanly possible from you. read more

Don't EVER go here!!! Our dog was a patient- I called on Good Friday- at 1:30 to say I was worried about my poor 16 year old Lhasa Peke- she threw up and had the runs and she wasn't eating- and when I took her out to do her business I had to carry her back in. I was told to bring her in at 4:45!! When I asked if they had anything earlier- they said no, they were booked. We got there to a totally empty waiting room. We were kept waiting and then brought into an observation room to wait another half hour or more. And when the vet finally did come in and speak to us after running all the tests, he kept calling our dog "he"- my dog is a female. And the paperwork even had the wrong breed! They had her listed as a male neutered Pomeranian!!! And the entire time we were waiting to be seen we could hear all kinds of talking and laughing in the exam rooms. And when the staff answered the phone, they put the person on the other end on hold and just left them there while they finished their conversation. Our poor dog died- we had to rush her to the animal hospital in Cheshire where she died on arrival. We spent probably a good 3 1/2 hours at home waiting to see the vet, then another hour and a half being ignored- all the time our poor dog was in pain. read more
