It's important for me to keep my hair in top shape. Sarah has kept me camera-ready since I moved to Portland in 2019, and is THE BEST hair stylist I've ever worked with. She's creative if you're looking to switch things up, but also consistent if you're trying to keep the same look. I don't even have to tell her what I want anymore. I just walk in, start chatting, and she knows exactly what to do. If you care about your hair, look no further. Sarah is the person you want cutting it!

Lauren and Sean are great and still at the salon. Since my last review, they've welcomed some incredible new talent. So much so, that I actually trusted one of the "newbies" Samantha with my locks. Samantha was up for the challenge of putting up with me, and did just an absolutely stunning job on my color. Sean is still my number one for cuts, and always will be, so he takes care of the styling side of my hair. Love these guys, and love their salon.

I just had a wonderful appointment for a cut and color with Sheli Duncan. She is such a pro at what…read moreshe does and the experience was a 10/10 all around! She's been doing hair for many years and it shows with her skill level and confidence. For my color, she whipped up a custom concoction that is pretty much the exact color in the reference photo I showed her! Not many stylists can do this. She took her time where she needed to and let my hair color sink in for a good amount of time (lots of other stylists rush this and the color doesn't get enough time to saturate. My cut was fast and you can feel her confident hands at work doing exactly what my hair needed. She styled me afterwards and I walked out loving it so much I forgot to take photos at the salon! Beyond the cut and color, we had lovely conversations and laughs together. A truly great stylist will get your hair right AND be a good listener and conversationalist. It's like salon therapy for me!

Hairodactyl is probably the best, quirky hair salon in Portland. I go to Kim the owner- started…read morewith her before she got so popular and now created a space for other talented stylists. Kim is lovely, very efficient and great for my curly hair. I also brought my 8 year old granddaughter when she was interested in a fun color strip for her hair for halloween. Kim offers regular coloring services but she has a great imagination for bold and fun colors- The other stylists are friendly and from what I've seen, their customers love their work. But thats beside the point. Shape Hair Design had no available hair stylist but did make suggestions on who they thought was good. Now I dont know what their hiring process is like but I assume it had to involve some kind of nunnery school and references of saint hood as no one other then the second coming of christ would just give away a competitors name just to help a client. When I offered to buy coffee for the staff for the reccommendation I got a resounding "we cant accept that, but please feel free to leave a review". Clearly I can't speak on the haircuts and hair styles done here but IF you are ever interested in getting a haircut done by a nun or a saint then this is the place for you!!! Side note* I didn't do any background checks to see if they are nuns or saints. It's just the only logical reasoning I can think of as to why they were all so amazing!

I tried going to different places, but never felt like the stylist truly understood my new thinner hair. I finally searched for a stylist specializing in thin hair and came across Sarah Jean at Kitsune. I have never had a stylist understand not only what I wanted for my hair, but also had them make me feel like my fears were valid while instilling me with confidence as well! My hair looks amazing again, and I no longer fear every strand left in the brush. It is such a relief to be seen as a whole person and treated with such care; I literally cannot say enough good things about this place, and Sarah Jean specifically. I adore my previous…read morehairdresser Beth Tucker at Strange Powers salon, but frankly her talent for transformative, empowering cuts for the LGBTQ+ community were wasted on my boring bisexual hair. And while my hair might be relatively boring cut wise, its still important to me that it looks good and has at least SOME interest - I am pretty sure my bangs are 10% of my entire personality. Sara Jean did a fabulous job adding in some layers and cutting my trademark bangs. I've been working on trying to bring out my natural wave patterns, and her cut helped me get more wave on the top layers that get weighed down and tend to go flat. Sara was super easy and fun to talk to and I already have my next cut scheduled for early next year. The salon is open and clean and has a ton of natural light. Even on the dark grey rainy afternoon when I got my hair cut it felt light and welcoming.
