I can't say, "I've had better" as we've never underwent group DBT elsewhere. Nonethless, I can highlight the ways in which this place must improve given the $2k you'll spend including an intro meeting with the doctor @ $200/hr the first time then $100+something thereafter.
Group classes won't answer your individual needs. They'll always refer you to the individual therapist you're to maintain.
16 week 4 part module
You'll go 4 weeks then off 1 week.
I started this while in the group but now have more input that justifies this rating and lack of improvement. For instance, I constantly asked about returning or continuing the group after the first run is over.... it seemed daunting or baffling to the doctor leaders.
Well, I found a few places nationwide that actually operates year round for the folks that need DBT, yep...more than 16 weeks folks. Cuz guess what?!? Program ends and the patient or participant still needs help implementing and prompting must occur or you'll realize setbacks.
Also, I don't know the exact reason why this isn't covered around this area but man.... it has to change as DBT therapy is rare in these parts, some folks in the industry have never heard of it yet there's a need... with that, we're going to a place to that will be covered by insurance.
2) This is more of a lecture style
3) Parents in 1 room. Kids in another room
4) Doctors lead the group sessions.
5) The stand in therapist when the doctors can't attend is pretty energetic and seems super engaged with trying to get solutions.
6) PIzza is provided when your family graduates but it's not the best.
7) water, pens and candy pieces are available upon entry.
8) the 3 ring binder is limited to 1 per adult for the family household. So, if you are divorcees living in 2 places then you get a binder. It's the smallest available. A 1" inch is most apropos.
9) The papers to place in the binders are copies so I'm perplexed why another notebook can't just be provided.
10) They accept all credit cards.
11) Help yourself and get an electronic copy of the receipt. Example: email
12) ASk all possible questions or you'll never get far with your kid's issue.
13) Have your therapist talk to the providers here so everyone can behave like they're on a treatment team.
14) Comparatively.... they don't have a goals progress sheet for the patient. Parent. Nor anyone. Enter...get lectured...review the homework.
15) Comparatively... we never came together to process how to execute the DBT modules specific to our needs.
16) Hypos are given but only 2x over the course of 5 months and closer to the end of the program.
17) No hard data or empirical data. I'm told they're not a research institution, not attached to a university so it's hard. Fair enough but at a minimum #surveys seeking confidential input could be provided.
18) Since such doesn't occur, I'm writing here on YELP so you guys can have a chance to get better or stay away.
19) I can't advise either but I know I put it off as a last resort with the hopes of trying to remain in Charlotte. This seems to be the most cost effective from my little referrals and research but I will move to get to an outpatient weekly DBT meeting facility that is more interactive and hands on seeking accountability with the kids.
**We need gradual steps down nothing definitively final like it is offered here.
20) if you must go, I'd recommend having something in place for continued services after you all complete this program.
*30 days after "graduating" I think we were back at square 1 if not worse off. read more
