I contacted Charleston Fence for a quote on replacing 3 of the four sides of my yard fence. Andy came out quickly and efficiently provided a quote via email and text. I had already requested permission from my HOA, but had I not, Andy and / or his team would've helped me with that process. The HOA took a full 30 days for a response, but again, that's for another review. We reviewed the quote and I provided Andy with a 50% down payment. Once we got the approval, Andy was able to give me a time when my fence would be replaced. As promised, they showed up on Thursday of last week to tear down the old fence and set the posts for the new one. Cleanup was superb, and even my neighbors commented on how great it looked after only the fence was taken down. The next day, they came in and put up on the new fence, and they were done about halfway through the day. The fence looks great. I'm really proud to have a Charleston Fence, and the neighbors all seem to love it too. Would be happy to recommend them to anyone looking for a new fence.

Followed the slope of the yard and made things as aesthetic and level as possible and did a good job of making thinks tight and avoided gaps. I think it is easier to make a metal fence look good since there is little variation compared with wood. The price was within the average of the 5 or 6 places I asked for quotes (aluminum fences are not cheap) and they didn't low-ball and raise their price by a large percentage. One thing I liked, they wanted to be sure the HOA and city regulations and permits were met which made me feel they were professionals and not apt to cut corners. They asked for the material costs upfront (check is fine) and then the residual at completion.

After discussing our long term dream for the project, Matthew asked if we would consider doing the whole project at one time. Doing it all at once would be a more expensive job of course, but we would be able to do things like grade the land and easily add proper drainage. We embarked on a month plus long project and had Matthew and his team here every day. He worked tirelessly to meet our deadline and went above an beyond in so many ways. A year later the yard still looks beautiful and we get so many compliments on it from guests. Over all we ended up doing landscape design, demoing the current yard and chain link fencing, new custom fencing with gates, grading, drainage, two large patio medallions, stone bench seating, firepit, astroturf, a hot tub deck, a vine trellis, and custom lighting. Matthew had very fair pricing, but most importantly took pride in his work. He made sure everything was done the right way without cutting corners. He claimed that he had multiple crews working for him. That was not so. He claimed he could build the 6ft fence all around. That was not so. The crew that came around was highly unprofessional. They smoked cigarettes and left the remains around and when trying to talk to them continued to smoke. They left the old fence posts broken and sticking out of the ground. We had high expectations for this fencing company based on their advertising of "all screw…read moreconstruction," but unfortunately our experience has been very disappointing. Less than three years after installation--and actually starting a little over two years in--our fence began separating. Upon closer inspection, it's clear that staples were used instead of screws in areas, which is not what was promised. This has led to premature failure and a fence that simply hasn't held up the way it should, especially considering the amount we invested. To be fair, we were initially satisfied with the overall look of the fence, even though the project took longer than originally communicated. We also followed all maintenance instructions provided. However, the structural issues have completely overshadowed that early satisfaction. What's been most frustrating is the lack of follow-through. When we initially reached out, the owner, Mike, said he would come take a look after returning from an international trip--but that was nearly six months ago. Since then, there has been no response to calls or texts from either me or my husband. Mike was very kind and personable, which makes this situation even more disappointing. While the customer service felt genuine at first, the lack of follow-up hasn't been fair to us as customers. For a company that charges premium prices and promotes quality craftsmanship, this level of durability and customer service is unacceptable. We expected better communication and accountability, especially for a product that hasn't even lasted three years. I would not recommend this company based on our experience. I was unable to get in touch with him for 2 more months before he finally was responding (when I threatened to get a lawyer involved) and told me he was going to pay me back. And now I have not heard from him since the end of August, despite multiple emails phone calls and text messages. He told me this company is no longer in business, but I just want to make sure no one is still giving them deposit money. I tried to sue the company but my attorney found out they are not licensed or insured and could not find any legal information for the company. Dont make the same mistake I did!
