I give Southeast Health ER a 0 out of 10. The registration person, sat at her desk and talked about everyone that ask her a question. Apparently when they are hired they were not trained in the correct way to act toward the patients that need their care. That is a great way to lose patients and money! BEWARE GOING HERE if you aren't critically ill with major trauma, heart attack or stroke. This review is based on multiple hospitalizations due to complications from a hip fracture, culminating in an ER visit yesterday. These visits range from the end of December 2024 through 25 August 2025. This has nothing to so with surgery itself, but the med surg wards I was on and the ER. I was rarely treated courteously by nursing staff. At one point I was brought to a room from recovery and they pulled the catheter half way out transferring me to the bed and REFUSED to do anything about it because my nurse was busy. I'm fresh from surgery and never saw a nurse for well over an hour and then had to be given medication for days so I could pee because it damaged my urethra. I rarely got meds on time (critical meds) yet when they found out I had my own, I was literally attacked by a nurse trying to take them away from me. I threatened to call the police and have her arrested for assault. This is medical so many of you might not understand but I'm steroid dependent and have been since 2010. I will literally die if I don't get them but pharmacy, hospitalists and nurses thought it was no big deal and no reason I needed to be on a schedule or get them in a timely manner. One hospitalist actually told me to quit worrying about it, that my adrenals would kick back in before I died...AFTER 15 years of not making my own cortisol? This was after somebody decided to discontinue them altogether. I'm supposed to respect them? This was a fight every single time. There were many times, if I hadn't had my own, I would have gone into an adrenal crisis. I had a Pure Wick each time and they constantly let the canister overflow and wouldn't change me when I got wet. I even developed a bedsore because I was left so wet for days. Then they'd get mad at me for being wet saying I was drinking too much (and gee had IVs running too) but apparently it's easier to tell me to quit drinking water than to empty the canister or give me dry pads when they got wet. So called hospitalists had major god complexes and I was treated horrendously by them too (there were 2 exceptions that were decent) telling me yeah, I'm complicated but they don't need to consult an endocrinologist because they know it all anyway. That they knew more about my body than I did etc etc. I'd need a book to write about all that happened during 3 surgeries/hospitalizations. BTW...Flowers was just as bad. There is no humane knowledgeable care available in Dothan on med-surg floors. Dr. Tacket was an exception and was awesome and there was another when I was in overnight once, but I don't remember his name unfortunately. The rest of them were obnoxious know it alls who couldn't stand for me to know my own meds and body etc. Anyway, I went to the ER yesterday and was treated worse than a dog turd on the side walk with the immediate assumption I was a drug seeker. I was put through 4 hours of absolute humiliation culminating in being told I was going to have to use a bedpan IN THE HALLWAY WHERE EVERYONE COULD SEE ME. I wasn't worthy of dignity apparently. I told my family to come physically restrain me if I ever said I was going to the ER again. I may be old and broken but my mind is sharp. After everything I've seen I have to wonder how many deaths from "natural causes" are really the result of med errors, neglect etc. Take this review as warning. I am a retired RN but would be ashamed to admit it with what I've seen of nurses since December. Yes, there have been a few shining lights here and there but overall every single hospitalization and ER visit has been nothing short of hell. read more

All the staff from the Birthing Unit are amazing. The Labor and Delivery, Anesthesia and the Nursery. 100% recommend. Beware of Dr. Jonathan Scott from the Women's Health Medical Center. His bedside manner is horrible, no compassion or communication. The nurses were more helpful than this Doctor. My daughter was in labor for 39 hours and I had to request for him to come talk to us. He wasn't super busy, she was the only patient he had in labor at the time. read more

Some people are born to complain and believe they are more important than others as some of these reviews suggest. I am greatfull to the staff in Southeast Health for finding and correcting a life threatening event (AAA) in the emergency room. Yes it took a long time for my exam because the amount of people in the ER . At no time in my 10 day stay was I ever not attended to with professionalism , excellent care and caring staff. The customer service in the emergency room in this hospital is 10/10! Perfect! So attentive to my husband's needs and very hospitable. Very compassionate and caring medical team. The parking was good. And even though the emergency room was packed with people they still managed to see patients in a very timely manner. I think we found our new hospital. My mom was admitted to the CCU she was very sick..The staff was excellent..She was moved to the 4th floor when they seen her numbers were getting better.She called me numerous times a day crying because she had misplaced her oxygen and noone was responding to the call light.When I got there I sat another hour still noone came!The night shift is God Awful!!!!Lazy!Don't want to do their job.Talk mean to the patient&they made my mother walk to the potty when she wasn't suppose to be on her feet..They told her she been doing it so she gonna keep doing it.Trays were just lined up in the room daily.watched them til toe and leave tray.The room stayed dirty multiple family members said something to staff it was enough she was so sick but having to endure all this was just to much..She passed on she is no longer sick but I will be her voice!!Shame on some of you!Also had her oxygen turned up 2 times and not one person wanted to admit they did it her oxygen was to stay on 2 at all times unless respiratory changed order in which they did not!! read more

I worked for Southeast Health for 5 years and enjoyed my job. The new team leader, Michelle Lewis, disliked me for no reason, and no matter how many times I voiced my concerns about her and her jealous ways, nothing was done. I used to like my job, and no matter if I talked to Kevin Ross or not, he always sided with her. She was a nasty person to work with and made my job hell. I loved my freedom, so I resigned. She would do things that were so unprofessional, like walk by me and not speak, but because I didn't group chat/gossip with her and other staff member. Every day they were in the back gossiping, and I stayed to myself. They used to say I was intimidating and standoffish because if they asked me personal things, I would ask why they wanted to know . She talked about Kevin like a dog too the best person they had, and was fair. They didnt like her, and her name was Christi. HR is not the place I just recommend filing complaints against them. Michelle Lewis is a nasty person. It was unbelievable how she just had a personal issue with me and was jealous when I did nothing to her. Kevin Ross, I used to think he was fair, but he wasn't and didn't do anything or talk to her about messing with me. I didn't want to go to jail because of the injustice I felt there. I was on the edge of having a mental out burst, and it would have been good for her and no one who got in my way, because at that point she had pushed me to the point of no return. I am not an .... kisser but tried to get along with her, knowing she didnt like me. She just made my work stressful for no reason, and Kevin knew it because I made her stick to policy when it came to me. I know one day she'll catch the Karma. But don't trust HR or Kevin to stand up and make working there easier. I know HR was not, but I expected to be treated fair, and the only person who stood up to her and Kevin and Michelle was Christi, and they got rid of her because she saw all the issues. On top of that the pay wasnt even worth it and neither was being a team leader she only made a 1.00 more if that than me but she was a horrible team leader with envy in her heart, and I had been there five years and had no real issues til she became my team leader and she's a Sister too black woman hating on another when we suppose to have stayed together but she was a true cut throat to a sister who did nothing to her but wanted to do my job and go home. It was a problem when I came in, sat at my desk, and they didnt see me but I did my job. That was an issue she would email me. It was ridiculous the hate and jealousy she had for me. My father had to be transferred here following a CVA last month. He was on the neuro care unit. I liked the hospital because it was clean and had a Starbucks but they were very short staffed on on father's unit and I felt that he should have been looked after much better. For example, he had no use of his left arm and they would bring his food tray and just leave it as if he was able to feed himself. I was the one helping him with his bath, turning him, cleaning him because they literally had no help. He had a couple of nurses who were nice and tried, but they were overwhelmed with their patient loads. I would bring the nurses treats like pizza and donuts to show my appreciation, but as an RN myself I wasn't happy with the care he received at this facility. Especially in light of his recent stroke and loss of mobility. read more

I have a rare disease and instead of learning about it or even asking questions I was called names and talked down to. Dr Jacobson the ER Dr at Southeast health sent my husband home with a BP of 189/99 with chest pain. He gave him nothing to lower BP. Told him he was fine & wasn't worried about the BP. He gave him something for pain and sent him home. Every Dr we have seen since has said he should have never been sent home. That Dr should not be practicing. read more

My Dad was there for Congested heart Failure from the people in CCU to the floor you guys are the best hospital that we have ever been to! everyone was so nice and professional. when ever we needed something they reacted quick and very nice. No matter what it was. even the cleaning people were nice and professional. they acted as if my dad was a part of their family. My Father house was completely burned down on Friday morning when I got to the er he still had on smoking clothes and smelled like urine the er doctor was horrible and when I returned back to see my father the next day around 12 they still hadn't bathe him so the nurse said that my father refused a bathe then the cna told me that she didn't give him a bathe because of his breathing either way the nurse should of made sure that the cna should have given my father a bathe they treated my father like he wasn't even human and I will never bring him back to this hospital and then Monday they called me cause they were going to dismiss my father we stayed there for 4 to 5 hours they are not nice at all. This modern world demands as much from us as the current Wold Pandemic that plaque humanities immune system. Those who require a continuous treatment program for conditiins such as cancer cannot be interrupted for any citcumstance, so they and their families find the best most cost effective medical establishments. The recent crisis has resulted in changes for the healh care establishments and Southeast Health is no exception. Allergy season has kicked in early, and a world pandemic came with it. Thank goodness for the medical professionals who commit their lives to making ours better. Southeast Health has been named one of the best places to find a new career and also the plethora of health services offered has earned them top ranking for the state as well. Doctors and nurses, administrators and staff are all professional and courteous. We have all made changes in these tribulant times, and Southeast Health has to. My admiration to the people administering to the ill in this great time of need, but running the place like an internment camp falls quite short. Instead if compassion and kindness, there is a command like attitude of follow the rules or suffer consequences of a ruler or dictatorship. I am certain they can allow a family member to accompany a cancer treatment patient for the morality if nothing else. I should have rated a 2, but will not till the procedures are fully established and the threat fully understood. I appreciate and accept the new structure as necessary but, keep kindness and compassion at the front of it all. Keep humanity strong. read more

I just want to say Friday July 9th I had knee surgery and had to stay till Monday the first day and night my Nurses name Gin and Psa name was Rita the nurse was rude but the psa was so bad she was rude and not nice at all, she got mad because the bed pan was not covered with the blue pad the way she wanted it to be, so it leaked. On she and me she was rude and, pissed off because she had to change my sheets and gown.. now night shift was the most horrible nurse and psa can't remember names but at 2am the nurse came in and she put the bed pan under me and told me call and the psa someone would come get it out, we'll after two plus houres of me calling every few minutes I was laying on the bed pan soaked and had to lay in it. The desk told every time I called ( I 'll get your nurse) and no one came, i was so upset I was crying and and humiliated I called my husband and he was headed up there but I told no I'll be ok they finally came in and one said she Thought the other one did, I could have had a heart attack or some emergency and no one came. They had to change my sheets redo my IV and they were rude and ugly, never apologized or anything. They new I was pisssed because I had to lay in piss for. At least two hours. after that night my nurses and psa were wonderful they took very good care of me, I give them a 10 out of ten. But on the 9th it was horrible, so they get a 0 out of 10. read more

Terrible stay at this hospital. If your doctor only works at this hospital, think twice. Our doctor was great. However there seems to be a lack of staff. And, rooms. Possibly they need more house keeping. Took forever to get a room after surgery. When finally got one, it was dirty. No way would I use their shower. Dirt in the corners. You could see drops of some type of liquid that was spilled on the floor in front of the bed. It was dry and never cleaned up. The staff do not share information with each other. It took forever to be discharged, finally gave up waiting for wheel chair to be taken down to be released. Walked out. read more

I give the hospital a two as there are so much failings in care services. The surgery that was performed was top notch. No complaints there. After being moved to a room is when service started to break down. First typical of any hospital and southeast previously was no exception. Then move to room, they would have a kit of necessities for any patient checking in. Water bottle hygiene care and repertory tool to exercise breathing. None was provided. First this that happened patient experienced nausea and needed to throw up. There was literally nothing to catch it. Not even a bucket. Next there were issues contacting staff personnel. Turns out the message system has issues where messages are sent but not received. This meant assumptions were made about care coming but not actually confirmed. The became a serious issue when the patient had issues expelling urine. They pulled 2.5 liters oolff him initially and 450cc subsequently. the last successful catheter was at 2am. At 9am he was mapped to have 900cc. An attempt to put a catheter in was unsuccessful and is was decided to have urology perform the procedure. They never came. Messages were sent through the messaging system but never answered. Hour later they have the patient Morphine for the bladder discomfort while they waited for urology. Now that is concerning. Giving a patient Morphine simply because he has a full bladder which a simple catheter would resolve. Finally at 2 the nurses performed the procedure without urology and was successful removing 900cc. He soon felt better. The care of the individual caretakers was great. This was not an issue of attention by staff. It became clear this hospital has taken serious steps backward in patient care. Something as simple as providing necessary in room care like water bottles and hygiene has been discontinued. This a a basic service in any hospital. Next is the most significant issue. Communication. Communication is the most critical part of care. The system used is a quality system. My personal belief is there are of procedural issues with the system. Also the near 100% reliance in it as the sole form of communication. It was clear no one recognize when messages sent were not being responded to. And when it was, they had no back process to address this. Simple dialing a phone was a challenge as phone went unanswered probably Because the numbers had changed. This delayed for hours simple response to request for patient care. This led to administering Morphine for a patient that simply had a full bladder when a catheter would have resolved the issue. Being familiar with other hospitals in other regions, this hospital falls well behind in modern overall patient care. Not a result of staff skills or care but hospital policy and decisions. I would equate care to be that typical of the 1980s. Today hospitals recognize the person treated is not simply a patient but a customer. There is much more to patient care than retreating the condition. It also includes the mental and emotional side. Happy patients recover faster and tend to become loyal to those that helped them. Honestly, I would likely take my family to another city for in patient care in the future. These issue are easily corrected but the correction starts at the top. Want to stress. The staff is extremely professional and attentive. They clearly are dedicated to their care. read more

I wish I could give this hospital a zero rating. They've given horrible service. The staff is negligent. My dad can't move and he sat in a soiled diaper from 11pm - 5am. Next day, he sat on a bed pan for over an hour. They never told him or our family a diagnosis. Then several nurses and doctors gave us different diagnoses. He can't move and the staff was instructed to help feed him. He'd ask them to feed him. They'd say okay and leave the room so he wasn't eating or drinking. The case worker was supposed to help me schedule transport to rehab. I gave several locations of interest. I followed up to ask if she'd been able to contact them and she said she's the only case manager and has other discharges to handle. It has been one excuse after another. Not one staff remember is competent, takes ownership. I want to move him to another hospital. read more

ER staff are awful. My blood pressure was at stroke level when I left home. ER staff could not get a BP monitor to work in order to check it. Doctor would not prescribe the medication I can take. Told me it's this or nothing. When I requested another Doctor I was told there is no one else (in this large hosp.) I got up and left & went to Flowers Hosp where I was immediately & throughly checked for stroke & heart attack. I am a nurse with many years of experience and I will never go there again. read more

I had a 3-D mammogram yesterday and it went very well. The staff was pleasant from check in to check out. The procedure didn't take long and the mammogram itself was not uncomfortable at all. I won't be dreading having one done in the future! read more

My father was seen in ER, then admitted for heart/diabetic related ailments. Every staff member we encountered (no exaggeration and there were dozens!) were upbeat, professional and extremely competent. My dad's case was very complex and required several specialists collaborating on his care. I was VERY impressed and will be writing letters and delivering some cupcakes to the nurses on 5th Floor East Tower for their superb care! I wish I could remember everyone's names but here are a few stand outs- Doctors Barkley, Shah, Ibie , Gay, Yunis, and Prakesh... Nurses- Summer, Jennifer, Tina, Vivian, Virginia, Danielle, Rhonda and Jamie... and PCAs Amy Victoria and Jay. read more

I came here for my scheduled c-section. I had Dr. Lazenby and he was a great doctor which is why the one star is deserving. Just for him. During my stay I had a nurse there for overnightand i was in extreme pain. I asked for my pain meds because it felt like my abdomen was being ripped open and she only gave me saline! She asked if I felt better and I thought she may have mixed my medicine with it so I was like, give it time. Approximately 15 minutes later, I was in excruciating pain! I had to use the bathroom but I couldnt because I felt all the pressure on my abdomen so I called again and told her how I needed medicine and she said ok. She came back with a pill that Ive never seen before. It was tiny and white with a dented line through the middke and she told me to take it. This was my 4th c-section and didnt recognize this pain pill but I trusted her and took it. The pain never went away. My guess was this pill was some sort of water pill. I'm not sure if she thought I wasnt really in pain or she wanted to torture me but I cried uncontrollably. was the worse experience of my life. My boyfriend helped me to the bathroom because I couldnt stand the pressure on my stomach but then that nurses shift ended and a new nurse gave me real pain medicine which eased the pain. I thought I was going to die. I am currently pregnant with my last pregnancy and I will not go to the Medical Center ever again!!! read more
