On entering South Press you're greeted with a dark interior and simple fitout, with wine for purchase either to take home or "drink here", a long bar and a selection of cosy tables in the front and high tables in the back. The real magic happens when you venture outside though. Out the back are tables set up in a courtyard surrounded by greenery and it's here that you can pretend you're on a European vacation while you smash back wine from around the world.
The wine list is really rather well priced, with most options by the glass well under $15. The best bit? There's FOUR sparkling options available by the glass ranging from the local (think: King Valley) to the fancy-pants (think: Champagne) which means you can stick on bubbly all night long and still enjoy some variety.
When it comes to food, the menu is simple and straightforward with most items cured or preserved in some way. Beef Jerky (from co-owner Adam North's tasty cows), chicken liver parfait (in the most GIGANTIC and artery challenging portion you've ever seen), smoked octopus tentacle (served barbarian style with a knife stabbed in on a wooden block), olives, terrine, cheese and pickled vegetables. It's great drinking food and perfect for sharing, and while some people might hunger for something more "meal-like", I'm very content having a meal made up of small plates and went home happily after splitting a few dishes with my favourite +1 read more
