I cannot say enough great things about Dr. J and this vet's office. She has consistently treated my aging and always-something Cocker/Clumber Spaniel cross for the past 2 years. She really helped him stay happy and pain-free. The office is quick to respond to calls, or emails. I love that I could send an email with a question and get an answer back without the sometimes unnecessary office visit. Prescriptions refills were an ease as well. My sweet boy lost his battle with cancer and Dr. J and this office's compassion and empathy helped us usher him to peace with love, with dignity and with enough time for us to say our goodbye. Having been a pet owner all my life and a vet's worst nightmare, Dr J and her office have won me over.

I say with certainty after bringing Lulu here as a patient for checkups and diagnosing a serious health condition; after boarding her for multiple staycations (about 4 weeks in total); and after finally bringing her here to cross the Rainbow Bridge when it was time. She took a sharp downward turn, I made the decision and the staff was there for her, and for me. From the check-in at the front desk to Dr. Burke and his nurse we were treated with care, kindness and empathy. My sweet girl crossed gently. with dignity, and throughout the entire visit I also was treated kindly and thoughtfully. A handwritten condolence card arrived a few days later, acknowledging my loss, which still makes me tear up every time I look at it. When I'm ready - I don't know when that will be, but when I'm ready - my next best friend will be treated here too.

He'd began hacking and coughing and it had been two days after we'd picked him up from a local kennel where he stayed while we'd gone away for four days. He'd had all his normal vaccines plus a vaccine to prevent kennel cough. Just like with the COVID-19 vaccine, the kennel cough vaccine, while rightly recommended, is not 100% effective. Before anyone starts griping or jumping to conclusions, I am staunchly pro vaccine! I decided to take Huck to the veterinarian since he'd contracted kennel cough once when he was just a pup and it had turned into pneumonia: he had to spend two nights at VCA (for the off the rack price of $2,000). The Quincy Veterinary Urgent Care Center is conveniently located within a couple of miles from our Weymouth home. They'd encouraged us to come right over and said the wait should ne very long. At the Center, because of the pandemic, we had to wait in our car until it was our turn. We waited patiently in the warm car while it poured outside but only had to wait about 40 minutes; not bad for a walk in clinic! A friendly assistant took our pup in to see the veterinarian. The visit took about 45 minutes and a very nice veterinarian called me on my cell while we sat in the car and asked some basic questions about our dog like his prior history with kennel cough. The vet reassured me that our dog did not, he thought, have pneumonia but would be treated for kennel cough with doxycycline and would be provided cough medicine as well so we could all sleep! The vet was kind and professional and answered my questions (whether we should give meds with food, etc). The bill was under $200 for the visit which included a nose to tail exam and the medication. Excellent care for our dog and courteous treatment of human owners! I highly recommend the Center to pet owners!

After my dog, Lincoln, was discharged from the ICU at an emergency hospital, no one from this practice ever checked in to see how he was doing. Zero follow-up or concern after a critical illness. Lincoln now requires a special prescription diet. When I asked for a prescription to purchase it elsewhere, I was told it would take several days simply because I wasn't buying directly from them. To avoid delays, I bought cans from the office -- only to discover they gave me the wrong food entirely. When I returned to fix their mistake, they didn't have the correct food and told me my options were to wait to see the doctor or leave empty-handed, then drive elsewhere to get it. Completely unreasonable for a working parent. What made this unacceptable was Olivia at the front desk, who gave me the wrong food and then blamed me, claiming I asked for that flavor (I did not). When that didn't hold, she changed her story and said my dog had eaten it before -- ignoring the fact that he is now on special prescription food because of a serious illness. She was rude, dismissive, and dishonest. The office manager was no help and suggested I "switch vets" since I wasn't happy -- which I absolutely am. This practice lacks compassion, ownership, and basic professionalism. I would not trust them with a pet recovering from serious illness.

Everyone at WLCC, from the doctors to the techs and front desk staff, is knowledgeable, caring, and genuinely devoted to every cat who comes through their doors. I can't recommend WLCC highly enough for anyone looking for a truly special place to care for their beloved furbabies.

You ever had one of those weeks, sorry, years, where you had the opposite effect of the Midas touch--where everything you touched turned to total crap instead of gold? Well, after a really financially depleting week due to some unforeseen circumstances, I came in during the afternoon with my cat who had started showing symptoms of having an ear issue earlier that morning. My cat was examined and I was given the estimate. Upon reading that big beautiful bill, my heart sank right down into my butt. I told the male tech I didn't have that kind of money and asked if VCA had a payment plan option. He informed me that while they didn't have a payment plan option, they did accept CareCredit. I was able to apply and qualify immediately. Thank goodness. When he left the exam room, I could hear him talking on the other side of the door telling his coworkers how I had remarked that I couldn't afford the procedure. I heard a snippet of "she was saying she can't' pay . . . " and then he said to his coworkers, verbatim, "Maybe you shouldn't have a cat then." I don't know many people who have $2k just sitting in their bank account. I'm sure it must be nice for those that do. I'm a hard working, single parent who has a lot of expenses to cover and I, or anyone else, shouldn't be judged or made to feel ashamed of their financial situations--or feel the need to explain it to random vet staff or the internet when resources like CareCredit exist for these exact situations. I care about my cat; if I didn't, I wouldn't have brought him in. This wasn't my first rodeo with an emergency pet visit or having to utilize CareCredit. But it was the first time I ever heard a staff member judge me, loudly, on the other side of an exam room door to his coworkers. I knocked on the door and loudly said, "Uh, hey, I can hear you." Another vet tech came in the room and he surprisingly confirmed what I had heard. He stated that he had heard a staff member make that comment though he claimed that he "didn't know who it was." I was at this point, admittedly, sobbing, and feeling like complete garbage not just as a pet owner, but as a human being trying to exist in this expensive, capitalist hellscape. It was just the crap covered cherry on top of the chocolatey crap sundae I'd been served recently. After I pulled it together, I left the exam room and I made a complaint to the kind woman at the desk as I set up the CareCredit payment with her and left to cool off as my cat was taken in to be treated. The vet called to fill me in on how my cat was doing, and honestly, I was kind of glad to hear that he had been a bit difficult and given them some hell after how terrible I felt overhearing the staff talking about me. My cat did well under sedation and his medical issue was taken care of. For that I am grateful. I will mention that the vet apologized for the staff member's behavior, as did the woman I spoke with checking out, and another staff member over the phone. The emergency exam fee was also waived from my final bill, which I appreciated, but it doesn't change the fact that best practices need to be taught and implemented among staff. I don't anticipate or expect an apology from the judgmental and unprofessional tech who spoke poorly about me behind closed doors, but I hope that man gets an education in professionalism. A bigger hope for him is that he can maybe tap into, and discover his own tiny personal pool of empathy, so that he can begin to consider what he thinks before he speaks. Especially when paying clients, regardless of how they pay, who care about their pets, and are already stressed and worried, are behind the exam room door, listening to every, single, cruel, and judgmental word.
