I'm sitting in my car in front of Panera Bread drinking my coffee. A homeless man who was out of his mind running around naked run into Panera Bread. The police came immediately. I suspect they were already following him. They were so gentle and kind to him. I was crying because I could tell that the man was upset. They just kept telling him they were going to get him some help. The paramedic and the fire department came as well. They kindly and compassionately put him on the gurney, they just kept giving him words of reassurance. What a difficult job they have and I'm so impressed at how they handled it. read more

Kindly asking for South Gate police department to hire more dispatchers or have dispatchers with more knowledge and patience. I requested assistance from the dispatcher that answered my call on AUGUST 12, 2024 @11:00pm sharp, says she was answering calls when I asked why I was on hold for so long, asked me to do things that I felt was not safe for me to do, said she couldn't help me unless I had that information, told me she'll send someone out there when they're available, she was very unprofessional, cut me off and told me "Listen to me" in a very rude way after I was trying to explain the situation, I requested for someone else to take my call instead, she refused to do so because she said it was just her taking calls which I didn't believe and hung up on me when I insisted. I had to risk a drive at night to find a police officer around my block to help me and mind you this police officer went out of her way to assist me right away. I wish I could have gotten the dispatcher's name because she lied to me about her being the only one to be able to assist me, seemed like she was refusing my request just to be mean. I know this because when I found the police officer, she told me there was two dispatchers taking calls. I want her name to report her for her un professionalism and careless behavior. Had an older woman in her 60's shove my daughter at South Gate Park on Sunday, February 18, 2024. Called in before coming to the South Gate Police Department and the operator was nice and told me to come in and file a report. When I came in I was told to wait, and after 10 minutes officer Wilkerson came out to talk to me. I explained my situation and he told me that a parent has a right to defend their child. He wouldn't even take a report for assault which is what my daughter was a victim of. I can't believe I came and wasted my time. So if you are a victim of assault officer Wilkerson gives you the go ahead to take matters into your own hands and resolve your issue/problem on your own. If you come down to the police station just know you'll be wasting your time and pray to the heavens above that you are never in real danger because you will be left to your own devices. read more

I had a horrible experience today with Detective Melendez made me feel very insecure and unsafe in my city and told me many things. A young women should not hear about how it's my fault that I get harassed and stocked I would like to make a complain about his approach after I told him, I was on disability, and everything that I have been through because of this man, I felt like he had no compassion and no knowledge of what I've been through for him to tell me what he told me today I left there, crying helpless with no hope of winning my case because he is in capable of searching and doing his actual investigating job I hope no one goes through what I went through and his daughters don't go with what I've been through and he could now have some kind of compassion for what I've been through. Wednesday was street sweeping by Independence Ave. Where was parking enforcement? There were cars parked and the sweeper could not sweep. Also, he swept a block that wasn't set for cleaning (first of it I saw). Why is there "no parking" on west bound Firestone from 6am - 9am but not on the East bound side where the MIDDLE SCHOOL is? There is congestion every morning! What happened to "no blocking sidewalk" parking? This is why disabled people can't live here. Can't skate here. Can't stroll with the kids. People blocking driveways & sidewalks is a safety hazard & I used to get harassed for just washing my car on the front lawn! What the heck happened? Harassing me for what? Because I am pale white? Because I don't bump LaRaza? The car wash on the corner of SG & Firestone has workers/customers speeding up the residential road because of the STUPID island blocking folks to turn left. I went in to make a police report/complaint at the police station and they kept me and my husband waiting for over 2 hours and we had to leave because we were already late to get to work. These people don't care, they could care less. Just bad attitudes and bad service all around, they are never here to protect and serve the community, they just abuse there power. I, walked in to the police station at around 9:30 p.m. and followed the instructions on the closed window. I, Picked up the lobby phone and requested a police officer to file a report. I, waited and Officer Salazar responded to the lobby a short time later. The officer was professional, took a crime report for my vandalized car, gave me my report number and told me what to expect in terms of the investigation. To be completely honest these officers do a good job. I've seen them stop wreckles drivers, local kids tagging up the streets. They are genuinely concerned for the community. Too bad the majority of CA keeps voting in propositions such as Prop 57, 47 and AB 109. Many Crimes that were felonies have been reduced to misdemeanors and when you get your property stolen (theft) or property vandalized and the suspects get arrested the courts give them a slap on the hand and tell them don't do it again. I literally interact with every agency I review prior to posting a review so I can better adhere to Yelp's guidelines to maintain the great services they can provide us. I witnessed them abusing public trust and public funded equipment and behaving in an extremely aggressive fashion toward citizens filming from public property. Abuses like these need to start getting recognized as greater crimes than any normal charge. They are also under the impression that their "policies" are of greater importance than the public rights under the constitution. Based on what I witnessed I'd comfortably guess some of them are literally trying to provoke a physical altercation. Officer Rodriguez (10195-during a phone conversation with "Lt. Petino" I learned that this badge number is fictitious) epitomizes what SERVANTS should NOT act like. read more

It's crazy how you can come to make a report and it takes an hour to do so. On top of that, three weeks ago my sons father called police making false accusations and when I said I wanted to file a report regarding him smacking me around the said and recommended I did not because they would take my son to a foster care. Although I did nothing. I have come multiple times to file a report and they co tongue to talk me out of that. What is too much to deal with? Do You have to be dead for the police to actually report you? I feel my life is at danger and they stuff have not helped. I am not sure what I need to do to be pro erected and served? If it were possible I would give minus stars. My fiancé was assaulted with a knife while in her car at an intersection in South Gate. She immediately called 911 and that's when everything went further down hill. She was more or less made to believe her experience wasn't important or in need of immediate attention even though she had the license plate number. I had to call myself because after an hour there was STILL NO POLICE PRESENCE. We were then told to go to the police station where we waited two hours before being told to come back the next day. This police doesn't take there calls seriously you could get killed and the paramedics would get there faster maybe Rampart station should train this station to do there work right . Rampart station takes all there calls seriously one call and they are outside already. read more

On numerous occasions, I called South Gate P.D. Station for quality of life issues and concerns. The customer service and response time was outstanding. The officers were very professional, caring, compassionate and understanding as they listened to my concerns. I've always been pleased with the service. The SG Police Department does a good job in the city and really do care. A lot of those guys grew up in South Gate and have family here.
