I've been a few times on the way home (clearly a slow learner) and have always been underwhelmed. Very expensive for a chippy, not particularly speedy on the preparation, only a few choices each night and the food quality is extremely so-so. Their chips are usually undercooked and a bit hard. The fish not particularly great. Only thing I really like there is the freshly prepared home tartar sauce.

I live pretty near Billingsgate. Have done for about 8 years. I've been once. I went for an article I was writing and had a great time (met a fisherman who hated fish - go figure), but once was enough for me. I do not do well with 6am starts. And the last thing I feel like pre-coffee is buying seafood. But I like cooking. I like making tasty things. I like having fresh food that didn't cost the earth in the supermarket (although my local fishmonger is also awesome). I basically want all the good stuff, delivered to my door. Marky Market does that. Not just to your door, but to your office too. I live so close to Billingsgate that I'd have had a very early wake-up call (Mark starts his day at 2:30 am - I'm not even asleep by then a lot of the time). So Qype laughed at me when I got half a kilo of samphire delivered to their office. I made tasty salads with crayfish for a party, everyone was impressed. Even shared some in the pub with some other Qypers. They were happy too. I'll use Marky Market for any special occasion. If you don't like early starts and you like tasty food, you should too.

When I was 20 I went on a study abroad program called Semester at Sea, and as you can imagine... seafood was on the daily menu for six months. After one month of eating the only non-fish alternative (peanut butter and jelly), I gave in. And I still haven't forgiven myself for wasting a full month not eating the most amazing, fresh, delicious fish I've ever had. The reason it was so fantastic was that it was sourced directly from local fishers at each port we called at, so mahi-mahi in Cuba, piranha in Brazil, skate in Cape Town... all the way around to king salmon in Alaska. My fish from Chelsea Fishmonger brought me right back to my earlier experience. So fresh, so local, so delicious. And most importantly, so ethical. I spoke with an employee for about 20 minutes about their fishing practices which involve, among other responsible things, only stocking fish caught by softer inshore non-destructive fishing methods. They paired so well with the Oysters ans the Oysters were naturally salted, so they were so well balanced with the toppings! Amazing!
