Dr Nguyen was honest, straightforward, and listened to every concern. He was quick and thorough. While explaining every step, he made me feel at ease going into every detail of the process. It was quick, steady, and not scary for someone with medical anxiety. The whole place is clean and in the lobby, there's free water bottles in the mini fridge and a keurig machine for coffee/tea if you wish. My family uses Dr. Nguyen and they are picky women, so I trust their judgment. The office contacted me to check in the next day after my procedure to ensure there wasn't any painful side effects lingering. I am glad that this office is so accessible, accepting, and supportive. The doctor himself was very nice and honest but what I'm wondering about is his staff. The girl at the front had a rude personality and then the girl who sat me at the chair hit me really hard on the neck when she pulled up the lead apron. Her name was Luna or Lluvia something like that. I let her know that she hit me hard and she didn't even look at me, no sorry, nothing. And when I told her maybe she should be more careful she said she didn't even touch me. Like why would I make up that you hit me and it hurt? It just made me super uncomfortable. I received a referral from the VA to see Dr. Nguyen for severe tooth pain. His staff was able to schedule my appointment promptly and accommodated me even further by getting me seen two days earlier then scheduled. X-Rays were taken and the doctor performed a quick evaluation to determine if the tooth the VA recommended was, in fact, the culprit of my pain. After determining that it was, he informed me that a root canal was recommended and I agreed to proceed with treatment. The procedure was quick and painless. I was in the chair for less then 30 minutes and the procedure was complete. From the time I walked into the office until the time I left was less then an hour. i have had a similar situation to everyone else. Sat down in the dental chair and was immediately told my x-ray was bad and there was a 50:50 chance i would loose my tooth. i said i was in pain and he said to not make my decision off pain. he was very rude and condescending. he kept telling me what do you want me to do? i told him i was unsure as i know nothing about my tooth/dentistry. i asked to call me dentist and he said "im not going to waste my time calling your dentist". I begin to cry at the chair and he walked away. i called my boyfriend to help calm me down. i was shaking. a few minutes later he comes over and ask "how are you doing", before i could answer he sees im on the phone and puts his hands in the air and walks away. When the procedure was about to start, he said im going to give you an analogy and started talking to me like i was a child and going to restaurant to pick food that i don't know which food item to pick. he said that was me because i couldn't make a decision. he finished the root canal. walked away and said nothing. came back with my prescription and said "go to your dentist". he walked away not saying anything. i wouldn't recommend anyone to the dentist Nguyen. he is rude, unprofessional and i have never had an experience like this before. do not come here! 0 stars! read more

VETERANS BEWARE!! I am appalled at the way Veterans are treated. It is a disgrace. He refused care because the VA had me wait for six months to approve my root canal. This dentist scolded me like I was a child to tell me that he hates how when he treats veterans, they wait around like it's not his time. I am 100% disabled and recently lost my job, so the VA benefits are my only insurance. And because they were so far out on booking, I was referred to off-site care for this office. I am now at risk for a severe infection all because this Dr. was not happy I was forced to wait six months for the VA approval to pay for this treatment. read more

As a professional, I trust his professional opinion but basically went in circles about why he won't do it as if I was twisting his arm. I accepted his simple explaination but when he continuously gas lit me about having pain as if it wasn't the tooth that was causing it like I haven't been dealing with DEBILITATING chronic migraines from that tooth for the last 5 years is where I draw the line. I just left the dentist chair after getting a root canal with Dr. Nguyen. I'm truly amazed at how fast the procedure was and how much it DID NOT hurt. Dr. Nguyen thoroughly explained everything to me ahead of time. He was soft spoken and kind. He distracted me from the procedure with light conversation while he was working on my infected tooth. I was surprised at how fast the actual procedure was. No more than 1/2 hour once the numbing set in. Like most people, I do not like going to the dentist. The needles, the sound of the drill, everything about it bothers me. But I'll tell you this, this was an amazing experience. I know I still have to recover and will have some pain in the next couple of days, but the actual procedure was a good experience. I highly recommend Dr. Nguyen and his staff. I had just emailed them last night because I had a toothache for a week and they (Sandy) got back to me this morning with an appointment. I thought I was just going for a consultation, but the doctor knew the problem and got the work done. Hopefully I will never have to get another root canal, but if I do, I'll come to South Bay Endodontics and have Dr. Nguyen do it. He earned my trust. I want to add this- I was really surprised at the 3 1/2 star rating. I went back and read every single low review. If you have time, do your research and see how many reviews the complaining people have filled out. The majority of reviews that they fill out are complaining. The se and staff are top notch! Some places, you may feel pressure to do procedures, but here and my current dentist (as they work in collaboration) are superior in my book! No pressure, just informed decision-making. So make the right decision. They are great! They have proper and modern resources, and equipment, etc to be efficient and do an amazing job. Root canals have horror stories.. but I have nothing but appreciation for their work and swiftness. They take care of business and this was a superb visit. The bad side is on ME ... I was referred to Dr.Nguyen by my dentist for a root canal. The ladies in the front were both very kind and welcoming. Dr.Nguyen on the other hand was cold and very dismissive. I had a couple of questions regarding the procedure and questions regarding my teeth xrays. And his response to my questions were "I'm going to do the tooth I'm here to do", and cut me off completely. When he was done he didn't even take the time to explain to me post-procedure. Even though my experience with him was completely unwelcoming, the actual procedure itself went incredibly smoothly. He has very steady hands and I didn't feel any discomfort at any point. My appointment was at 1pm, I got there at 12:35 and was out of there by 1:20. It was fast, and painless. The anesthesia worked wonders and was completely different than my previous root canal that was done at a different clinic. I cannot adequately express my gratitude for the expert care provided by Dr. Duke Nguyen. We are in the midst of the Covid-19 virus crisis and most providers are closed in accordance with CA State Directives. I've been in terrible pain for a week. After proper, careful screening, Dr. Nguyen was permitted to perform the endodonic (root canal) treatment that I so desperately needed. He had me in and out of the root canal chair in 45 minutes. I should of read the reviews before arriving to this business. I had the same experience as all the other patients had warned about. The endodontist berated me, was condescending, and unprofessional. I cannot believe this guy is still in business. This Endodontist did not complete a thorough exam on my tooth. I had a root canal previously, so I am aware of the assessment process. When he looked at my X-ray, he came into the room and started attacking me about what I was doing there. He said I didn't not need a root canal. I told him I was as referred by my dentist because of pain and sensitivity to cold with my tooth. He told me, I was not having pain. He said he would not treat my tooth unless I decided I wanted the treatment. He said he had treated people in the past that did not need a root canal, and he was blamed for more problems than that patient had arrived with. I don't know if he has a chip on his shoulder from a previous lawsuit with a patient, but his behavior was completely disgusting. How could he possibly assume that I am not feeling pain, when I told him directly what I what I was feeling. I would not wish this treatment to anyone. Please save your time and money. He was of no help. I am going back to the original endodontist that did my previous root canal because he was completely professional. I should of asked to be sent to my original Endodontist than follow through with the referral to this endodontist. My dentist referred me to see a specialist after I was complaining of discomfort and sensitivity on a tooth that has a root canal and crown. Dr. Nguyen's delivery of message was so disappointing. He was unprofessional and his tone of voice was unacceptable to me. As I am sitting in his dental chair awaiting to see a new doctor he comes and introduces himself but goes on to say I see no infection in your X-ray, so why am I seeing you with a condensing tone of voice. I was taken back because he already made me feel like I was wasting his time; however, he wasted my time. I did explained to this so called specialist that I www having discomfort and sensitivity and that I was not chewing on that side because of it. This is what I had informed my regular dentist so she referred me to him. That's basically what I was doing there. I told him my dentist said the X-ray didn't reveal an infection but because I am having discomfort I should be see by a specialist. Dr. Nguyen said oh she saying the same thing as me. I do not feel comfortable doing any work because I see no infection. What I heard " who cares about your pain complaint" not doing squat. Anyways bottom line is he saw me for 2 minutes, he was unprofessional and wasted my time. He didn't hesitate to charge my dental plan and he didn't even provide services. He should really work on his bedside manner and deliver messages better on top of that he showed up late to the office. I had an 8:00 with him and he got there 15 minutes late so I wasn't seen until 30 minutes after. The office is outdated and needs upgrading. Do not go here not worth it. Find another place. I've had two root canals done by Dr. Do. He and the rest of the staff are so professional and timely. Both times the root canal was just 30-40 minutes. The only pain I felt was during the numbing process and a few seconds of pinching during the procedure. They accept insurance and send all necessary info to my general dentist so the whole thing is pretty easy. The only slightly confusing thing was actually finding the office. When you drive in, go to the parking lot on the left. You want the white/light blue building with the tall, black glass cylinder-ish structure on the front. Take the elevator to the second floor and go around the corner (past the bathrooms) to suite 208. Took me 15 minutes to find it the first time I was there. read more

South Bay Endodontics: staff is nice, office is clean, but the main dentist is very condescending to older women. This is not the 1800s when doctors often treated women as hysterical patients for complaining about pain. I went in there for the first time the day before Christmas Eve. At first, there were only 2 people in the waiting room: myself and one other woman* who seemed to be in her 60s like me. When I was called in, I was surprised to see that there were almost no doors and I could see other patients not that far away. He was with the other patient* and I could hear EVERY word. He was berating her for asking about a root canal. He told her, "Your crown is not that old. If you insist that I give you a root canal, I may have to remove more than the crown." His tone of voice was condescending and he kept repeating himself. A little bit of patience and kindness would have been so much more professional. When he got to me, he was also gruff and impatient. He said that my x-ray showed no infection. Then he started to lecture me, too, so I put my hand up and politely asked, "Then why does my tooth hurt?" He frowned and said, "Well, I don't know. Why don't you tell me?" I said, "I don't need a lecture, so why don't we just agree to let the antibiotic do its job and if the pain goes away, problem solved! Then I definitely won't need a root canal." I probably have completed 2-3 bad reviews in all my life, this practice warrants me warning everyone who will take the time to read this review. I had my dentist request me to have a root canal and a post done, I called my insurance carrier for a list of Endodontics in their network, Soutbay Endodontics popped up. I called them and explained that I needed a "Post and a Root Canal " they took down all my info and set up a appointment. I showed up on the given day and upon Checking in I reiterated I needed a Post and root canal, the office staff told me they didn't have my referral/ prescription so I gave them my dentist phone number info they already had. I then filled out paperwork and was told to go to they room for treatment. Like all the previous reviews on this yelp review he was pushy , condescending and extremely rude, I should of left but I missed work to have this procedure so I overlooked it thinking he was just having a Bad Day, but after reading all these reviews, No that's just him. I had what I thought was the necessary treatment I came in for only to find out the next day when my dentist called me and said I still needed a post to be installed. I was extremely confused. I called his office and was told that they do not do posts they only do. Root canals, I explain to them I wish they would've told me when I made the appointment or at the front desk. When I told him what I was there for on the day of the procedure and asked to speak with the doctor they told me it was not in and to call back the next day which I did, I talked to him in a professional manner, then he started attacking me, verbally, calling me stupid, ignorant, and other unprofessional remarks, I reminded him that I didn't raise my voice or talk rudely with him but he was borderline crazy! Randomly, I have selected this Endodontics clinic through google list of Endodontics. The only reason why ive chosen them was due to close proximity to my home. Dr. Do was the name of the dentist that worked on my root canal. He seemed to be knowledgeable of his profession. However, I also observed that the environment of the work place felt robotic. No talking, just straight to the point, work. Dr Do appeared to have a military-like rigidity demeanor. No no non sense conversation, just straight to the point. Staff were not welcoming, including Dr. Do. I observed staff were extremely subdued to make conversation. After the work was completed, Dr Do, handed me a "how to instruction", and reminded me to return to my dentist for filling. Most dental office are welcoming and comfortable. Unbelievably horrible service! Was referred here by my general dentist, for a root canal. Made an appointment with these unprofessional people two and a half weeks in advance. I work full time and had to take time off work to accomodate dentist's office hours. As I'm on my way to the 8am appointment, I get a call at 7:36am from a woman claiming I HAD an appointment at 8am. I told her "I HAVE" an appointment at 8am and I'm just around the corner. She proceeds to tell me that the doctor will not be in the office. I asked her why no one called me in the past two weeks or at least the night before since I had to take time off work to make this appointment. She was so rude and threw her co-workers under the bus. I've had three previous root canals done. One treated me with no compassion at all, one was nice but way too rough, the third was terrific but she retired. So I wasn't looking forward to taking a chance on someone new, but it had to be done. SO glad I randomly ended up with Dr. Sarshar at South Bay Endodonics! She was so nice and physically gentle in her work with my mouth, so my jaw wouldn't hurt later from the pressure. She explained what was happening, checked in on how I was doing, stopped whenever I needed a moment to just rest my jaw, and it was over in less time than I expected. There's no way to make a root canal a great time, but this way really all I could have hoped for. And my dentist said a week later that the xray looked great, so she clearly knows what she's doing. Could not believe how fast and pain free my root canal was! My appointment was at 11, and I was walking out before 12. Didn't feel any pain throughout the whole procedure with Dr. Nguyen, except for the numbing injection which was minor. It's been 2 days since my root canal and, besides minor soreness, I'm still pain free. So glad I can finally eat cold/hot foods and drinks without having to try and avoid the right side of my mouth. read more

We had a wonderful experience with South Bay Endodontics!! Our 9 year old son needed a root canal, so we were referred to South Bay Edodontics by our primary dentist. Our son was very nervous before being seen, but all that went away once Dr. Micheal Do and his assistant explained step by step what would be involved with the root canal, to my son. If I could give him 0 stars I would!! I had the worst experience ever.. Dr. Duke Nguyen treat me with no compassion. I was in so much pain when I got there, He did my root canal.. I thought everything was good till I continued with the pain.. I called and the receptionist said it was "normal" cause of the procedure. Ok... a week passed and I called for an appointment because I was still on pain.. which they gave it to me 3 days later.. I was in 1600 mg of iboprufen a day.!!.. finally Dr Nguyen saw me... he said "I should see this".... the tooth is too high and you are grinding you teeth at night and you are not letting the tooth rest.. he trimmed it.. after he did it and before I left I told the lady my tooth was sharp from edge and it was high still.. she said he couldn't do it no more! Reason I don't know.. dr just left and went to other patient.. I left... I still was on pain! My God the headaches and jaw pain was horrible!! I was still in pain killers med... after 4 days I called the office again....they gave me another appointment..... as soon as I got there instead of the Dr ask me how I'm doing or ask me where the pain was or something else showing compassion due to my almost 2 weeks of pain and my tongue cut due to the sharp edge he left on me! ... Ohh NO he gets mad at me or the situation!!! OMG he started to raise his voice on me telling me things like "you are going to lose your tooth! The problem is the other tooth (behind the root canal) and we need to do another root canal.. if you do not do the crown on the tooth you are going to lose it!! (When my primary dentist did NOT want to do it cause I was still on pain!.. well I told him "you are not gonna do NO other work on me.. I want you to take me out of this pain!! He says "Well you are grinding your teeth at night!! You are not even wearing a mouthguard".. Excuse me Dr did you tell me to wear one?!! Of course not!! Is not my fault that I grind them.. I have NO control of that!! Well he said there is nothing else I can do for you! I made him give me a release letter so my other dr can do something for me... I was crying while waiting for the letter.... I felt so miserable and alone.. all i wanted is being with NO pain... and all I got was the yelling, attitude and NO compassion from him. I will NEVER, EVER want to see him NO more but maybe in court. He just care probably about My and my insurance money that's it.! I hope people see this post and they think twice about going with him. I had a root canal here over 2 years ago, went back because I was having problems following the root canal. The dentist seemed arrogant and very put out that anyone could possibly question his work. However, I've been to several dentists in the past two years and each one "immediately" goes to this tooth because it does not look right; they notice it immediately when they go to do an exam...strange wouldn't you say? The tooth in question didn't really bother me prior to this dentist and John Maroon on Broadway in Chula Vista sending me here insisting I needed a root canal after he (Maroon) botched a crown (I did have a filling in this tooth but it barely bothered me). I would never send anyone here or to Maroon because the pain I suffered following the numerous crowns done by Maroon and root canal was almost unbearable and they didn't seem to give a dam. Obviously they did something wrong to cause this much pain and neither fixed the problem so I still need to have the tooth fixed properly.
