SALT, VINEGAR AND TRADITION Quite a few years ago I would spend the happiest days of my
younger life visiting family in North Devon during the summer holidays. Memories
that remain fondly carved in stone. Some memories are visiting the village of Braunton to stay
with my paternal grandparents. Sea, sun, fishing, fascination, diversity;
anything and everything was different to life in the London suburbs. As a special treat, we were occasionally treated to a 'fish
supper', which we would collect from the then fish shop in South Street. Since then, other things have happened locally. A rival
establishment opened up and managed to acquire all sorts of awards. http://www.qype.co.uk/place/193870-Squires-Fish-Restaurant-Braunton
It impressed to begin with over the years, but my impression and that of the
locals to this 'Fawlty Towers' of fish restaurants gradually went downhill,
following the quality of food and the frenetic service. South Street continues to be the home of real fish
and chips! I have nothing to add to the review by Lanky of Leicester. I
think he hits the nail on the head. Seriously worth visiting. read more
