Having sampled all 3 restaurant in the immediate walking distance of the area, I have to rate L'Avenette Gourmande my favourite and I find myself returning to this and trying every dish available. It is a family run business with simple yet elegant food offerings. It may not look as swish as the restaurant at the Hotel d'Orb, the food is on par or if not better with a much more relaxed atmosphere. The proprietor Eugene and his family has been very accommodating to my lack of French and my usually very non-French meal times. I have become so comfortable with their food I have resorted to letting them decide what I should have every time. The restaurant also offers free wifi internet which is a bonus for any traveler. It also has a semi-enclosed terrace over (yes, over) the River Orb which serves as a beautiful visual and aural backdrop to meals and conversations. Being in a prominent location in the main street of the little village of Avene, the street front al-fresco seating makes L'Avenette Gourmande the impromptu gathering spot of the town.

The service was poor as had to physically go and get ketchup instead of it being provided to us as we had requested for it when ordering. The staff struggled to understand English and just spoke French which made it difficult to understand what they were asking us. We found the location to be nice with the view from the river.
